Thanks for sharing, I have the same tent which I love. Give a try at putting your trekking pole in the same angle as your door zipper, it will clear your door step and still being almost as strong as upright.

Great idea. I will give that a try!

Haha, literally just got this tent. Watched the “how to” video and got a perfect pitch first try. Hilarious that outdoor gear lab would post that. Looking forward to taking it out on the Rockwall trail in a couple weeks.

Wow - awesome! Yes, the video makes it so simple. Pretty dumb of them to promote going out unprepared.... Jealous of you on Rockwall! I just got back from the Skoki area with a newbie and wanted to do Rockwall instead. Snow was still too much for someone "new" to the sport, so I opened for less challenging conditions for her first time out. Snapped a tent pole on night one as a sever stop approached. Crazy!

@@HowestheHike Been trying for Rockwall for 3 years now. One year it was closed due to the fires, the next year my friends canceled... This year is the year! 🤞 Crazy about the tent pole, too bad you didn't get to experience the full skoki. Not sure if you have done it before but it's a pretty beautiful area, lots to explore there!

Skoki is awesome - I agree! I know a lot of it. My newbie partner did not so I felt really bad. But the hike to Baker Lake is stunning in and of itself so I think she got the bug pretty good! Enjoy Rockwall!!

Brilliant, amd now I really know how to pack it up! Your video is better than any other. Cheers - Nigel, Scotland. BTW slept in mine a few nights ago, by Loch Ness, and no condensation at all. Oustandingly designed tent. Keep up the great videos!

I've just bought a Tarptent Notch Li (waiting for it to arrive), but as I live in the English Lake District condensation is always a problem, & I wanted a tent with an inner. There are very few dyneema tents with this feature. It's a 2 pole tent but I have bought a separate tent pole from them as well, as I usually use only 1 trekking pole. Like you I'm getting on a bit & reducing weight means I can still keep backpacking. It's good to hear your positive comments on Tarptent's customer service.

I think that's a great tent too - congrats! Yes, they are a great company to deal with. Love their stuff!

Thanks for the video! Especially, your Foothills trail videos. A couple of questions for this video in regards to packing a tent: -Are you a stuffer or a folder/roller, when it comes to packing a tent in its stuff sack? -Do you have to be folder because of the struts?
@HowestheHike
@HowestheHike 2 года назад
Thanks for the question and kind words! I am a stuffer for my silnylon tents, but a folder and roller for all my DCF tents, including this one. I also use a stuff sack. the DCF ones are super light and I just like that extra layer for protecting my shelter. With this one, you do need to roll due to the struts. Tarptent has a great video on setup and tear down that I watched. Allowed me to get a perfect pitch first try. Highly recommended!!

So Duplex or Aron Li if you were hiking the PCT? I’m typically more of a hammock guy but the tent makes more sense esp. for the desert section. 6’2” and also appreciate weight savings. Seems like it comes down to which I prefer more - bit more room vs saving some ounces. Thanks in advance
@HowestheHike
@HowestheHike 2 года назад
Tough call. I'm 6'1" and I like the extra room to be honest, but thru hiking is a different beast and every ounce/gram counts over that many miles. Two awesome choices though

Stuart, thanks for the video, liked it! Did I miss the video on your Rocky Mountains hike, or was this the quiet hike? Thanks
@HowestheHike

Thanks so much! This was on The Quiet Hike. I am debating this VS my Duplex on a hike stating nlkate next week. 12 days with the girls in a remote part of Jasper. given the length of trip, may opt for the Duplex for the extra space.

Thanks for the video. You mentioned the zpack duplex tent. I'm looking to purchase my first tent for camping in the pnw and am thinking about both of these options. 1 person, but like the idea of having my pack inside with me to avoid mosquitoes while futzing with my stuff and to have option for almost the same weight to take another person. Taking the 2nd trekking pole that holds your camera issue out of the equation, what are your thoughts? really appreciate it. thanks!
@HowestheHike
@HowestheHike 2 года назад
I agree. I prefer my duplex most times on the trail for the same reasons you mentioned. Because I have that extra carbon fiber pole, it leaves one trekking pole free for my camera work. They are both great tents, but the duplex does allow an extra vestibule for my gear and a lot of extra room in the tent.

Nice non-review Stuart. Question...how does it sound? I haven't seen personally any tents/backpacks/tarps made with dyneema, so I'm curious with the tent body so close to your face while sleeping, is loud when the wind blows? Can't wait to see you Live Your Dash in it! - Davey.
@HowestheHike
@HowestheHike 2 года назад
Davey! I actually had no sound issues with it. Sleeping pads are the sound culprits! The only adjustment I found was that you can kind of see out though it slightly. Spooky!!

Great "Non Review" do you not use a ground tarp with it ? That looks like a good tent I think I would have dumped the money on it if I didn't just buy another Nemo. Not sure how often you run into it, but just like outdoorgearlab this past October I had two different backpackers ask me if I could help them set up their tents that they never set up.
@HowestheHike
@HowestheHike 3 года назад
Thanks Sean! I had a perfect pitch first try after watching the video. And you know, I've NEVER run into that sort of lack of prep. That is crazy! Could certainly cause a dangerous situation! (I just got back from a hike in Skoki with a newbie and snapped a tent pole as a storm was approaching. Dangerous as well. Always good to be prepared!!) and NO. No ground tarp required.

@@HowestheHike Is the tent built to be waterproof or would you need a fly if it rained, i saw the bit where it had snow on it?
@HowestheHike
@HowestheHike 2 года назад
Totally waterproof as is. It is a DCF tent, and that stuff won't even absorb water like the typical silnylon tents. After that snow night, I have extreme confidence in it. bombproof!

What’s the name of the gadget you have on your trekking pole to mount your camera and phone? I’ve used a Gorilla pod and a Stick Pic, but I’d rather have something handy like you have that is more secure than the Stick Pic

I use a Gearlock X Spigen Bike Mount Protective Case - and the bike mount attached to my trekking pole. I also use a GoPro - and also use a bike mount for it. Hope this helps!

Hi what is your tripod on the trekking pole
@HowestheHike

One is a GoPro bike mount, the other one for the iPhone is a Saigon Gearlock mount for a bike. (needs an iPhone case to work with it) Hope this helps!
