It's been almost 4 years, but this thing is back in the shop for some more TLC. This time we have at least one dead channel. Watch me dig into diagnosing and fixing the issue. There will be more in this series in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Thank you soooo much! Same issue on one channel that wasn’t working on my 388. This invaluable information saved me from dishing out hundreds at a repair shop. Found NE5532 chips at a local electronics shop for $2 each.

I got such bad GAS for a 388. But I neither have the need, the space, or the money. :-) So similar to my M-2524 internally. Good to know. If I ever find a broken one, I can likely fix it and sell it on.

Great video. Is part 9 out yet? Thinking about doing some work on my 388. Especially getting the meters and levels set. Looking forward to it.

Hello, I have a very basic question on opening up the bottom panel of a 388. I can get all the screws off mine except for the two small screws near the power supply vents on the bottom of the machine. I feel like I'm going to strip the screws with a regular screwdriver, is it best to just order a set of assorted sizes?

If you're worried about the screwdriver ruining the head, try an impact driver, either a hammer-operated one or an electric one. (Obviously hammer gently.) Sometimes I've been able to grab the head of the screw with vice grips and back it out that way. I think the bottom screws are M3, so you should be able to get them at any hardware store if they become ruined. Never reuse damaged screws or the next person who needs to remove them will curse you.

@@PhillipsHomeRepair Thanks a lot. Yeah the two screws beside the power supply vents are smaller than the rest of the screws on the bottom, I'll definitely try an impact driver when I pick up a few other screwdrivers hoping I can find one that can get the right snug fit. Those old Tascam screws can be on the soft side, I had to dremel a couple on my 38 in the past
