The Tata Altroz Racer was recently launched in India, while it got many cosmetic upgrades to give it the sporty essence, the biggest change was under the bonnet. It gets a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 118bhp and 170Nm. To find out how much of a racer DNA was added by Tata Motors, we've brought the Altroz Racer and its direct rivals - the Hyundai i20 N Line and the Maruti Fronx turbo to CoASTT in Coimbatore, driven by the fastest Indian Narain Karthikeyan. He set lap times in wet weather conditions to see which was the fastest hot hatch in the country. Watch the video now and get the answer to this very important question.

1. What justification will evo give for the fact that on altroz ac was turned off and on i20 ac was on throughout the lap and All know for sure how a.c majorly impacts on 3 cylinder performance. 2. Why not i20 N Line manual when it’s now available, why chose the pre facelift with the dct? We all know the answer!!

My comment was in response to the original post about the i20’s time in the Autocar test, and I simply pointed out that the i20 in this video was a DCT with the AC on. I never expected this biasness from evo india and shirish. They choose the worng i20 and even after that they drove it when the track was super wet whereas when altroz went for the run the track was pretty dry, but keep all that aside why did you chose the DCT n-line and not the manual N-line.

Mr. Narrain was involved in the development of the Altroz racer and has consistently supported its dynamics against the i20 N Line in his previous reviews with various automotive channels. Therefore, it is evident that he may not be overly critical of the Altroz. An average person can likely predict the conclusion of this review from the outset. The podcast on the Altroz racer in Motorinc has already drawn a conclusion about the racer.

Get your ECU updated or get a after market one.. The damn de-tuned diesel engine starts cranking serious power. Aftermarket ECUs are already available. That's the first sign that a car is really good.

Not trying to compare or put down evo india, but the reason why autocarondia is on top is their consistency with their testing methods. Evo should have tried to procure an i20 manual, but this kind of inconsistency even in testing the models shows why autocarindia is right there on top.

With the atlroz racer ,"save the manual" dialogue was good but intention of true comparison was not found when you chose nline dct not the facelift manual.The video was more of altroz racer and the track not the genuine comparison we loved to see😔. When it comes to altroz it is more polished opinion not providing the engine tech of racer it uses like Port injection or no suspension difference as the name racer suggest,just talking about ventilated seats , bigger infotainment on the race track is the moto of the video and the fact that fronx is not mean for track then complaining that it rolls ,soft what can be expected of that package. Evo we need more geniune video guys 🙏

An established competitor automotive channel had a track day at the same track a few months ago where the same driver tested both the Fronx and the i20. Even though the track conditions were different, the i20 equipped with a DCT box (which was again a complaint of all viewers) had actually lapped the circuit faster than the Fronx equipped with an MT. Now, with the exact same vehicles being tested again by the same individual, how do the results change?

VW GT TDI - Punto - were my first choice. Chip shortage post covid, I got a Altroz Diesel; quite honestly I think Punto and Altroz share more than people notice. I love Punto.. if it was available I would buy it.. Altroz is so desi, but it's a Royal Desi, like who gives dampening for free even in the lowest variant.. from the bonet to the dikki, it's all sealed up cleanly, Tata is giving value for money and there's serious love by whoever designed it. My little Cousin bought a V6 Cadillac and when he looked at the Altroz he was like "Bhaiya yeh meri car hai India mein".. he still has the other key with him in Toronto.. He does track tests and develops engine cooling solutions for General Motors.. He has a track license.. He said this is a timeless classic. I trust him.

Guys don't hate me.. the old i20 was awesome.. This one is just cost cutting too much.. The Altroz is way more components and it's heavier.. it will last longer.. The new i20 in Black looks good until you see the rear.. it's just wrong.. the rear lamp cluster is absolutely a catastrophe. It feels cheap.. Buy a Alto K10.. that's gonna kick way above it's level. Old i20 was respect worthy, the new i20 is just cheap materials.. and it's so empty inside..

Bring the Baleno RS....it has wider wheels than altroz racer, i20 and fronx. So definitely more grip than these 3 cars for the Baleno RS.

Comparing apples with oranges isn't the right way. Bring i20 NLine manual to race with manuals. The same Narain drove same cars in CoASTT in less time for autocar India. Now to promote Tata, giving less efficiency on other cars is sheer case of losing respect among auto enthusiast. No GDI tech, No rear discs breaks among other specs lacks in altroz to compare with other two

not a fair comparison if you used the slower DCT version of i20 and manual version for the other cars. Also the track seemed way wet for i20s run with puddles everywhere which could have reduced its lap time.

So you are saying racing a DCT car, when you could have used the manual transmission with AC ON against a similar speced manual car with AC off on a relatively dry track is a fair comparison. Whether its TATA or Hyundai or Maruti doesnt really matter, or about the efforts of NK.

@AMR63-hv8jl 1.they turned of AC on altroz and while driving i20 and fronx the ac was on..in 3 cylinder engines ac makes a noticiable difference 2.They choose altroz manual and i20 Automatic even tho i20 manual is available which is 2 seconds faster than dct 3.The road condition when they drove altroz was super dry and you can see the condition when it comes to fronx and i20 i dont know what they are trying to prove but everyone knows who is the winner

This is completely an unfair comparision, the i20 nline comes with a manual transmission but they tested the DCT why ? I think Tata is trying to promote the Altroz Racer by hiding it's short comings, notching gear shifts, tighter clutch. This type of comparision is pointless and misleading.

yes because my first priority is built quality and safety over anything else these days even if i compromise a bit on driving fun it doesn't matter cause in our indian traffic and every day driving scenarios its difficult and unsafe to drive over 80kmph speed all the time so mostly will be crusing

Well in hilly areas where there are lots of corners, Altroz Racer is ideal. But hyundai 120N line is more likable in terms of reliability and premium Ness. Same goes to Fronx. But at the end of the day it's the customer's preference and choice.

Event though tata build great cars there are few key negatives 1.service centers.Technicians are poorly skilled.This happens because they take freshers and made them to work with no salary for 6 months. 2.reliability

Felt like NK is mostly on point with his observations, I've driven the Nline few times through the ghat roads and highways, it was a group of Nline, altroz diesel, polo gt and some other cars, Nline is a fun car well calibrated power delivery but the steering is not that communicative but it's pretty straight forward but some understeer is there which kills the fun for me, even though it's a four rotor break setup i encountered some brake fading compared to the altroz diesel and polo gt, chassis balance is bit soft for my liking, DCT is good in manual mode but downshifting unnecessarily while pushing in auto mode, other than these i like to play with it, definitely worth for that warm hatch badge, i can't understand the hate towards the altroz racer since its announcement and looking forward to drive one soon

Evo India why is c3 turbo not included? It may be slow around corners due to high GC but it's a hatchback with most potent engine currently on sale. Not including it was a bummer, especially when it's evo india & Shirish chandran, not expected!! Disappointed.

They choose altroz manual and i20 Automatic even tho i20 manual is available which is 2 seconds faster than dct .The road condition when they drove altroz was super dry and you can see the condition when it comes to fronx and i20 i dont know what they are trying to prove but everyone knows who is the winner

We can see each car is running with a/c on.And without any alteration. Many peoples complaining about choosing dct model of nline, they are unaware of the quick shifting advantage, only know about the initial lag due to low rpm at the start. But that doesnt count here as lap time count from running start line. So the nline truly had an advantage here.Tata cars are truly underrated and many peoples wont approve it. Haters dont forget that racer did the lap time with 40 mm overall less tyre width.185 vs 195 of nline and fronx. It would be interesting to see how altroz perform with same tyre size.

not a fault on evo india side. sirish was a true car lover but we people make them do all this for there survival. look at nubes likes arun pawar and mehek who gained million subscribers in a couple of years and look at established media houses like autocar, 91 wheels, evo india, overdrive.. everyone has a belly to be fed.

i20 Nline is offering manual and automatic but yet decided to go for an automatic and yet gear shifts were not on time, wet track and the stock tyres are not that good at gripping which is an opinion thats all over the internet. when asked about brakes 😂what kind of an opinion is that??? This is a desperate attempt to promote a racer that doesn't justify the name it's given. Don't come at me with weight and safety because i am not the one who named a hatch racer called it a hot hatch. There is a reason why polo is getting all the love even when it is discontinued, even when it isn't practical and till date nobody seems to understand why.

@@NikhilSinghtherock Fun fact- Verna smoked Both Virtus and Slavia in the same cornering test however both cars smoked verna in the autocar Trackday test. Even Creta managed to outperform Elevate, Taigun and kushaq in the same cornering test. Reason? The test is more about how well the ESP or traction control of the vehicles work than handling or stability, besides the tests are also notvery accurate as the softer old i20 performed better than Nline i20 in cornering. Bring better excuses buddy
