This is a Legend. No matter how Roughly it's Used it can Still Start and Reach you Home Without Any issues. I had Driven a 1997 Model. It was an Awesome experience. Tata has Made a Mistake by Removing it especially when The Bolero which is Cramped up and Short geared still is on Sale.

Old tata cars looked so mean, evergreen design, that's how suv should look like, raw muscular and butch,miss old tata cars and miss the legendary safari

Tata sumo & Mahindra bolero are absolute definitions of what a real suv/muv should be. Also Tata hexa was a very good model.

I own Tata Sumo Spacio Gold 2007 model.. Like this beast.. Rough & Tough vehicle.. Nice seating , clear driver view , low maintenance & rarely give a problem..Crossed 2lakh kilometres..I never get tired driving Sumo in long journey.. I drive it till today.. Tata should relaunch Sumo..

Mahindra MaXX was the biggest rival to the Tata Sumo. As the name suggests, it had plenty of space on offer, in rural areas it is generally used as 12 seater. One can still find a lots and lots of MaXX and Sumo in Uttarakhand, however Bolero has now completely taken the charge of both of them.

The official and ideal Suv for rowdies in bollywood and South movies 😄 They just love blowing these things high up in the air and haha those chase scenes where the heroes would escape in a ambassador and the villains would chase him down in 10-15 Tata sumos 🗿 The good old days 🙂 BS2 converted to BS4 😳 the perfect car to drive into a climate conference and smoke some "kaala duwa" on EV lovers 😍

I visited Sikkim last month, and this car is a very popular taxi car there. The taxi guys fit 10 passengers in the car in 2+4+4 configuration, all super cramped and uncomfortable and drive like complete madlad.

Absolutely it's a workhorse.. we have one in our family, 178000 kms done still running fine. Have a separate emotion for it.

Good old days where SUV's are not powered less than 2.5 litres engine. And fuel efficient than most fake SUV's available now.

Good to see you review this legend vehicle, i used to own sumo gold, after it has done 2.2 lakhs km i sold it but now i regret it, it was a hardcore adventure vehicle for me, with that famous tata 3.0 dicor bs4 engine (refined in its time), it has raw pulling power with massive 300mm diameter clutch, it handles every jungle trail, mountain obstacles i have gone through, it has zero turbo lag, at just 1000rpm, full 250nm torque is unleashed. I'd say, Sumo Gold cr4 was the best sumo ever, not even Grande comes close to this, Victa however is not as impressive because of that smaller Peugeot sourced engine. If you can get your hands on sumo gold cr4, it would be interesting to see a review, because it is a completely different animal altogether.

Hey Faisal, this Tata Sumo is turbocharged as the intake manifold is linked to the intercooler via the red rubber/silicon joint.

My suggestion would be if u can make video of FORCE TRAX old model.. 1996 and chevorlet tavera.. One of best car from general Motors

I am mechanical engineer and I have Tata sumo gold EX CR4 common rail 3.0 litre engine from 2012 december, practically for off road farming works and highway use for family. I was surprised that in 10 years she never disappointed us in terms of Ground clearance, Power, pick up, Performance, practicabilty. I was regularly drive my Sumo Gold from Nagpur to Pune, only with Sumo Gold I have confidence seating arrangement very tall, we can easily see roads. Audis BMWs Mercedes decrease their sppeds on bad roads, Sumo can easily manage bad roads with high speeds. Empty vehicle is little bouncy but when it's full with luggage and 9~10 persons. Ride is more comfortable like sedans. It can goes upto 120-130 kmph. AC is very powerful. I was satisfied with car and no plans to replace it. Because all of our requirements of bigger family huge luggage carrying capacity is fulfilled by this one only. Owning this car is one of the best decision of my life for having such Reputed and Real metal "Tata ka Loha" It consist 3000 cc engine which is not a joke, Torque is Way better than any other chinese plastics products.

Fun fact : Sumo 3.0 engines & other key mechanicals are shared with Tata 407 itself, even today, alongside some other light trucks. And putting out all the 250 Nm torquey goodness at just 1000 rpm is the USP of this 3.0 engine.

There is still a huge market for FRAME ON LADDER - sumo type vehicle , and Tata should introduce an updated modern , crash test compatible version of SUMO . Although , I think tata has engine availability issue , as it parted away from 2.1/2.2 engine development ( used 100bhp version is some vehicles)

The Mahindra Bolero and the Tata Sumo both were true-blue rough and tough hardcore vehicles. Both were equal, but after the discontinuation of the Sumo, the Bolero has taken over its market. The Bolero is a great car. Tata needs to re-launch the Sumo in order to take charge of the basic people-mover market segment.
