I have 4,000+ rounds thru my TX. I use the follower tabs with no issue. Key is, as you point out with the loader, is to only pull the follower down enough to slide in the next round and then release the tab to “seat” the round in the mag. Essentially same process as using the loader, but I find it easier and quicker. I did have extensive FTF issues at about the 4,000 round mark. Took a lot of trial and error (polished feed ramp, new recoil spring, and new barrel - all courtesy of Taurus). What finally fixed the issue was…cleaning the mags! They weren’t very dirty, but after running cleaner cloth thru them (no oil!), I had zero FTFs in the next 500 rounds I have shot. I love my TX!
Just got one twos days ago it's the 3rd Taurus product I have owned and I'm extremely pleased after about 300_400 rnds I had two FTE but I accounted that to ammo
I have one for about 3 months now , enjoyed your review, totally honest. I especially enjoyed your t-shirt and that your daughter can handle firearms, you’ve got a new subscriber!
Great review. I have a TX-22 and I’ve put 4000 rounds through it in the last 10 months. This is a great and accurate firearm. I can put 250 rounds inside a 2 inch circle at 7 yards. I have not had any issue with the pins backing out. Also, Taurus makes an IWB holster for this firearm which is handy to have available. The fit, feel and ergonomics of this firearm are excellent, and I think the sights are really good too. You mentioned the great trigger, and I would also mention that the trigger reset is excellent. Taurus has really come a long way and they have immensely increased their design, quality control and functionality since they made the move to their new facility in Georgia. Last, I will go on the record and state that their customer service is excellent. They actually pick up the phone and work to resolve any questions you may have. Again, nice review and bravo to Taurus for turning me into a raving Taurus fan.
2 inch at 7 yards...? That’s airsoft distance. They shoot airguns at 10 meters in competition. To know if a service size pistol is accurate, or not, shoot it at 25 meters.
This is ... without a doubt ... the BEST video on the Taurus TX22 pistol. I have had those FTF problems with both mags. in my TX22, and your easy to understand visual is the solution to that problem. Keeping a clean mag is also very beneficial too. Taurus should send your video to all of the people who have problems with ... an otherwise great gun. Thank you.
Terrific, detailed review. Really appreciate the heads up re: pins backing out, as well as detail on installing suppressor nut. Great review. Thank you very much!!
I own 4 Taurus semiautomatic pistols and love them all as they are all accurate, reliable and eats everything I feed them. My TX22 is exceptionally accurate and in over a thousand rounds I have had only 2 issues. Both were ammo related failures to fire from 40+ year old Winchester Wildcat ammo I inherited from my father. Thanks for the video. Getting ready to go to group therapy at the range with mine today.
Thanks Jack, Nice video. You sorta saved my life today. I had 3 boxes of CCI Quiet ammo in my shopping cart and you mentioned that cycling that was a problem. Appreciate the tip. Just got the gun about 2 weeks ago and installed a couple extra mags and a Lakeline steel spring and guide rod. Only put 50 rounds thru it with no issues. Also found a nice retention poly holster to round out the purchase. Very comprenhensive video, great job!!
It will shoot subsonics. I use the CCI Subsonic for Semi Auto and they work great. 40GR .22lr. Also standard velocity ammo works very well, I.e. Green Tag.
@@jackofalltrades7822 Thanks for the speedy reply. I was still watching the video. Did subscribe. Have a great 4th of July weekend to you and family. "The JJ" SW Penna.
Ver good review I like this pistol as well the warranty is very good I had a problem with another gun they told me how to send back within a week or so they had it back to me fixed I appreciate how you showed how to load thanks
Very well done video. I bought one of these and my roomate bought one as well. At first I felt bad as she had to send hers back to Taurus. The pistol was having feeding problems. Even with the "Best" CCI" Mini Mag. Tarus paid for the TX 22 to be sent back and fourth (Federal Express) not cheap, and the "Repair". We got it back and still the same problem, failure to feed. After some ruling one thing out after another, I figured out it was a magazine problem. If my 2 and 1 of hers was ok-well a mag problem. The different types of ammo did not change a thing. After I figured it out, I called Tarus and they sent a new magazine. She ruined a mag by pre loading it a day before going to the range. Tarus sent a new mag-everyone is happy. She wanted to blame the "Bad" gun on me-HAHA. Thank you for covering the loading of the magazines. I just fortifies the fact that the magazines are a potential weak link in the systemand are fairly delicate-where as not so much in other 22lr pistols I have had in the past. Super job, Thank you-Shawn.
Agree with the t-shirt completely. Good that you are training your daughter how to defend herself. I have long agreed with other commentators that the 2A should be the greatest women's issue since it is the great equalizer. I have one of these on order and will be picking it up next week.
Well, I think this positive review of this handgun is the straw that broke the camel's back. I have decided to purchase this handgun. I have probably viewed 20 or so videos on this handgun, including the two you mentioned.Like you, in the past I have not been a real big fan of Taurus products either. 2 years ago I purchased the Taurus G2C as a truck/tackle box gun and it has been as reliable as any Glock I have owned. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this handgun.
I love this gun and so glad with videos like yours . I have never had one problem since I have had it and love the light weight. I am not afraid to use this as my EDC its so accurate. thanks for sharing
Excellent video very well presented I bought one when thay first came out and like you said sights were spot on right out of the box very good shooting gun also have the sr22 and the lcpll22 and a Heritage Roughrider 22 besides about half dozen 22 rifles yes I’m a 22 nut!!!! lol 😂 again great video 👍👍👍
I just purchased the TX22 Competition Attached Fast Fire 4 red dot . Am a new shooter. The TX WITH Fast Fire & Tandum Kross compensator ROCKS !!! I SHOT CHEAP AMMO & CCI Stinger 600 rounds not 1 FTF . Held the gun loose to try to get a FTF , NOPE it's a great gun after going through 3 well know brands this 1 gets 10 stars
Nice, fair review of a 22 pistol with alot of good information on the features of the pistol and it's negative points and what to do to avoid or correct them. New sub here.
Did you find one? I am picking mine up today. It should get better. Sig Sauer released their .22 version and should sell much so maybe that will free up some things with other makers.
Very much appreciate the discussion about ergonomics regarding left hand shooting with this gun. The racking of slide doesn't seem like a big deal, the magazine release button can be switched over - which I hope is an easy process. Will be purchasing very soon. I been having a hard debate with getting this or the Ruger SR22, but the SR22 seems to have a legit flaw with the second shot in the magazine not cycling ...I seen it in multiple videos, though the gun has every feature possible for a semi automatic on it that a new shooter will ever face if and when they go up in caliber....at a $400+ for something that has an irritating flaw.
It's an awesome automatic 22lr , great ergonomic grip , great trigger, great lines and form. I only had one problem, My barrel has nearly NO RIFLING, so i ordered another from Taurus it wasn't any better. Since 2020 i didn't take it out much until I saw a guy on showing his Beautifully cut lands & grooves by "LAKELINE" PRECISION MARKSMAN BARREL you gotta see this barrel. They also make optic cut slides stock or with a compensator cut like Sig has on their 365 Macro comp carry . Mag +3 extensions , and other upgrades. (roll pins) Taurus now 2024 mades the TX22 compacked 3.6" barrel w/13+1 capacity and it's optic ready from the factory they'll take the original 16rd mags, you can get mag spacers sleeves or the same base plate extension+3 .
If you ever take an NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course, then you'll learn about hang fires and waiting 30 seconds before clearing the misfire. It's standard training for all NRA Instructors. More people should learn how to handle failures to fire instead of just racking the slide and dumping suspect ammo in the dirt or on the bench.
Great detailed review I like how you brought up the pins getting loose and how you can correct it with locktight I'm still up in the air to buy a full size or a compact TX22 for the range
The best .22 to just be accurate and plink with IMO is a walther 1911 model. So smooth, all metal, very good recoil control. The fixed barrel fixes the problem of adding the can, then getting significant POI shifts. Close second is the Beretta M22. Both work great. The ppks .22 is great for concealment, but the accuracy from the first double action shot is something that you have to work on. Another plus from the ppks is that you can usually conceal legally within size limits when you have a shorter can and still get good reduction from it.
I purchased mine used. The previous owner said he had nothing but problems. I took it home; cleaned it and the magazines, and have never had any issue.
Took about 300 rounds for mine to straighten out and fly level... Since then, it's had the snot shot out of it. In fact, the only 22 pistol I own that gets shot more, is an FN502. On a side note, my Glock is running a close 3rd. Honestly, out of the box, the Glock has probably been the most reliable of the 3... The Taurus and FN both needed a slight "break in"...
Well I got mine July 2021 I was in the shop when they got a pallet delivered TX22 and G3’s I put the TX in my hand and I knew this is the one I have 300 rounds through it, my problem was trigger pull (squeeze) but its my problem lm use to my 1911 Gold Cup, the range officer put every shot into a 2” circle the TX is perfect I’m defective, the only other thing is the bright white TX on the slide
Great Video. Been looking at this and the Ruger, but I've seen more bad with the Ruger than the Taurus. So i may go with the purple one, because why not.
Thank you for that great review Do you own Taurus G3 for size 15+ or 17+ magazines a run 1000 rounds for each one I have two of them may wife I love them I have a TX Taurus Long rifle on order now can’t wait to get it
Thank you for mentioning the simple fix (blue loctite) to the pins that want to walk out, I immediately took care of that, just now. Pins wanting to walk out, and the rear sight just not holding its adjustments at all; those are the only two problems I've had with mine. Luckily I was able to fix the sights by just jamming a sliver of rubber underneath which holds it at the highest position which turns out to be the right zero, at least for me.
My standard tx22 broke after a few thousand rounds. The part where the recoil spring fits into the slide snapped clean off. Bought a complete competition slide to avoid Taurus’s terrible turn around time for warranties.
Hello, Great video. I could not help but to notice the deer horn handle knife n the bench. Please tell me a bit about that. Looks like a beauty of a knife.
Thanks. I made that knife. I had a deer antler shed and some time to burn & decided to make a knife. I had made a couple knives before but that was the hardest and most satisfying. Thanks so much for watching.
Got a TX22 for my daughter to target shoot with me. I am getting about 2 FTF issues per magazine( about 300 rounds to date). I have tried different ammo (Winchester JHP / Federal Lead) and thoroughly cleaned the pistol and the magazines. Still FTF issues (the round does not seat in the barrel causing it to attempt to "bend in half" when the slide tries to chamber it. I have NOT used the loading tool and typically pull down the magazine pins slightly to load. I will try your method and see if that fixes the issues. otherwise, it has to go to Taurus for work since all those FTF issues are not acceptable. I must say, even if the loading method does fix the issue, I have never had a firearm that finicky about loading the rounds.
I have been watching reviews for the TX2, and this has been one of the best videos. I am trying to decide if I purchase a TX22 or a GSG 1911 .22. Have you ever shot a gsg 1911? In case yes, what are your thoughts? Greetings from Texas.
I have shot the GSG 1911. Truth, it shoots good and I like shooting it. That said, for the money, I would take the TX22 any day of the week. I prefer the higher magazine capacity, not having to cock the hammer to shoot and the lighter weight of the TX22. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
It does but it has to removed for disassembly and you need to buy a thread protector as the gun doesn’t come with one…at least mine didn’t. Thanks for watching.
Lucky I bought mine back in July and had to pay $344 for mine but mine is odg so ig maybe the color made it more but floor price was $319 brand new also my pins are also starting to slip out as well and mine are way more out than yours so how did you fix that problem?
Well, it would certainly give me something to think about. I have seen guys shake off a 9mm so there are no guarantees. Let me put it this way, a 22 is better than a sharp stick and it holds 16 rounds.
Just shot mine for the first time yesterday. 600 rds, and too many ftf's to count. Was shooting Winchester hp's, and the gun would do like a last round hold open sometimes every other round. Re rack, then pow pow, re rack, then pow, then re rack etc. I till it apart before shooting, everything was lubed and clean. Really bummed.
I enjoy your review .. but, in the begining you say that you appreciate ANY comment and on several occasions , you state, that ANY negative comment will be deleted and person will be blocked... so, you only accept positive ones and not able to take any ( even objective and legitimate) critical opinion ? Perhaps someone can give you an input to improve and make your video reviews even better.. to begin... maybe cleaning your hands and finger nails... otherwise, very nice review of cool firearm.. after selling my Ruger SR22 , thinking about purchasing this one ...
I have no problem with objective legitimate comments that may be differing from my opinion or observations. You will notice that I was addressing those who are anti gun and anti gun ownership. I was referring to disrespectful, abusive or those who would try to make this into a anti gun politicked debate. That is my definition of “negative” comments. Sorry if my verbiage was confusing. I accept and appreciate all comments that are respectful, legitimate and objective. Thank you for watching.
I have deleted comments that use vulgar language, racist comments, name calling and general disrespect of me or my viewers. Those commenters are also blocked from my channel.
Hmm dunno about that. There are slide issues with that spring hitting too hard and cracking it and a batch of bad barrels out there. The TX22 FB group mentions this with examples. Those are design flaws, not caused by the user.
