Overdrive doesn't kill anything. If you don't have enough power in OD it's because your final is too high. Lower your final ratio and you'll have the same top speed (in OD) but you'll have more low-end.
It's just a trade off. Either you run out of engine once it shifts into OD, or you gear for all those RPM and now the bike wants to wheelie all over the place from a start or at lower speeds if you open the throttle too much too quickly. For someone drag racing with wheelie bars yeah. But just for some guy wanting a fun bike you can't over gear it. You're better off letting OD kill it without all the crazy gearing.
@JB’s Retromod Garage Do you think this helps with belt slip as well or how are you getting your 30 series to hold the power? I have a mild predator on a mini frame with 12.5 inch tire geared to do 50mph at 5k. If i go full throttle from slower speeds, It feels like choppy accel and clunky sounding from driver as well as belt glazing on pulley. Hold 1/2 to 3/4 til i gain some speed then going full seems to work so I think Im blowing through the belt but it looks like you're making a fair amount more power than me
You would probably be better off changing the sprockets gear ratio, and keep the overdrive, I been working on scooter CVT, basically the same thing, keeping the full CVT travel and changing the gear ratio, would be an amazing improvement on the scooter, but they have actual gears, no chain, it would. Allow greater acceleration from a stop, and higher top speed, but the scooter does have adjustable weights to change shift rate, I don't know if these have any rate adjustments, with springs or weights, but the scooters are usually at full throttle all the time, or off throttle, the CVT attempts to keep the engine at peak power reguardless of speed, I'd love to trade it for a 5speed transmission!!
Any idea why my belt doesn't spin? Installed correctly but belt will not rotate with torque converter that is properly spinning, belt has no grip. I don't get it. Thanks for any advice!
Retromod Garage #teamcoco Yes. But now the Predator isn't running right 🙄 I saw fuel dripping so think I have to get in and check the carburetor. But yeah the thing is installed correctly, the clutch on the Tav30 just will not release and I don't know what to do about it. Can you find me on FB? Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much!!
So then why did you put the copper piece on after it which is the exact same size and makes it even bigger what’s the point just a troll video looks like
So if i have enough power , with my 196cc i do not need to ad the spacer if it is not bogging out ? By adding the spacer it also limits top end by not allowing the belt to travel higher on the pulley ?
It shouldn't limit top speed with a spacer if you are able to turn the extra RPM needed for the speed you got without the spacer. In another thread a guy said he got the same top speed but at a higher RPM with the spacer. If you don't think the belt shift to OD is killing power then maybe you shouldn't consider a spacer.
So my brand new torque converter (with or Without a chain attached ) isn’t working at all ,,, with the belt off the weights do their thing and push the pulley in towards the crankshaft fine.....with the belt on and at full throttle it only comes out enough to grab the belt then stops and the bike just lugs around at like 5kph,,,,so I got it on the bench and the rear pulley with the red spring in it doesn’t change at any throttle ,,it’s like it’s not spreading at all, it spreads fine by hand but not at all when running....I completely made sure everything was nice and clean and free to move in the weights and same thing ,,,it’s on a Baja warrior 200cc ,,,,,,if anyone out there has any ideas it would be much appreciated 8m stumped 🤔
@@carsman-hb8hz if ya figure it out please let me know ,,I gave up on it and haven’t messed with it in months gonna attack here this week I’ll let you know if I fix it lol
@@JonnyMudMower did ya figure it out? The problem with mine is it won't unlock. The belt stays engaged all the time. The bronze bushing is on it jus not working. The belt jumps around and it only goes a few mph. It is a Chinese copy. The pulleys are lined up perfectly. I'm at a loss here if anybody knows what the problem is I'd appreciate the knowledge.
Ringo Gingo keeps the sheeve from going towards the engine which means less shifting, which means overdrive doesn’t happen, which means the engine can rev higher without bogging down from overdrive ratio
No the brass sleeve does not do the same thing. Did you watch the video of how the spacer limits travel? That’s the idea, limit travel, which limits shifting, and keeps it out of OD.
@@JBsRetromodGarage did you watch the video? The brass collar is same diameter of the shim he installed. I'm saying doesn't the collar already stop the clutch bell from total lock/shift? Or is the idea to add to the limit already set with collar? That's my confusion...
