You know I love you DJ, but not hearing a single word about my boy Kurkesh in this video really brings my bladder to a boil. He'll copy your activations for half the mana cost AND no tapping required. Plus, he's an Ogre Spirit, which has to be one of the coolest creature type combinations in the game.
actually, for the top, you'd draw a card, put the top on top of your library and then you'd draw your top. Putting the top on your library is part of the effect, not the cost.
Super easy explanation of Triggered vs Activated abilities. Level up moment for me. I had never truly understood the difference. Great video. Super excited for UR artifacts.
Pretty sure if you copy the Sensei's Diving Top effect, you draw the top card... Then place the Top... Then Draw the Top. ...it may actually be preferable that way
Xantcha is kind of like X from Unstable. I loved running that guy when he was legal for a bit there, but Xantcha being in RB and not UB makes me less excited about it.
You've changed my mind about Tawnos. I was pretty on the fence, knew he was awesome, but wanted to go a route less travelled. You've shared plenty of ideas here that takes me down that path. Thanks, DJ, for all you do, bud! 🤘😁🤘
12:00 -- You can copy Myr Battlesphere's attack trigger, but it won't net you any extra value. You do the tapping on resolution of the trigger, not as part of the cost. You can't tap the same Myr to pay for both the original trigger and its copy.
At this rate i will surpass your decks by next year. Grothama tonight! Excited!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man!, Rules, conditions stimulate my brain. This game is satisfactory to my needs as a complex thinker. You rock as always! Go nowhere and keep up the fun creativity!
I've been contemplating what to put in my Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient deck. Since he's a Rings of Brighthearth on legs, I got a ton of ideas from this deck tech. Thanks! :)
Hey DJ will you please do a dech tech on Xantcha, Sleeper Agent?! It's such a crazy, unique, and fun looking card, and I would love to hear your ideas about how to build around her!
Can not help but notice how many of the cards you mentioned are in my Breya deck, think I will add him to that deck once I get a copy. P.S I have the Candelabra of Tawnos mawahahahah! Can not wait for Commander 2018 and more videos! Yeah!
No mention of Kurkesh? Worth the comparison as there are pros and cons for both for a similar ability. I'm sticking with Kurkesh, but this commander looks just as fun. great video!
The best budget card I can think of is Chaos Wand. It's already good in commander but casting 2 of your opponents spells for free is nuts. Mindslaver would be hilarious. Take 2 opponents turns. This deck could also use Jester's Cap or Jester's Mask. I have a nostalgic love for those, and this is a great excuse to bust them out.
I'm already planning on building that mill deck. I've got those Mill artifacts just sitting on a binder page that have been there for years waiting for an inspiration like Tawnos
I guess I could have used Kurkesh... But I get to do Blue artifact shenanigans now, and run him in the main. I think Tawnos and New Saheeli is what I really wanted as a Commander. New Jhoira was a good start but she's really something I want as tech; I don't want to be dragged towards a lot of cheap stuff and not enough really fun mid-sized to large toys.
Hey! Can you do a deck tech for the other commander in this deck? Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer? Was thinking of deconstructing my Feldon deck and merging it with him!
Most of the comments ive seen for the new commander spoilers are something like meh, underwhelming etc. I like when new cards make new fun strategies possible not when they make broken decks even more broken.
Sounds like I'm pulling apart my old Mairsil the pretender deck for Tawnos. I'll probably rebuild Mairsil someday but the deck isn't a favorite of my playgroup since I can combo off and win by turn 4 or 5.
No includes for Kurkesh onakke ancient? Cmon dude he is THE primo commander for copying artifact effects before this. He is a 4/3 for 2RR that reads "Whenever you activate an ability of an artifact, if it isn't a mana ability, you may pay {R}. If you do, copy that ability. You may choose new targets for the copy."
Who is that Etherium lady in the background art at the beginning when you're talking about activated and triggered abilities? Looks just like mtgsickly!!
I REALLY need an answer Jumbo Commander: As this video does not present a full list I'm wondering if this cards are for upgrading the original preconstructed commander or for making one from scratch? do you have a list with the full deck?
That's a pretty speedy deck tech.... and there's some interesting stuff here, but I'm having a hard time seeing how Tawnos is not just worse Kurkesh. I only saw a few triggered abilities worth copying, and with Tawnos not only are you only able to do it once because he taps, your'e also paying extra to do it.
With senseis divining top copies draw card ability you only get one new card. You get the new card, put the top on library, draw top, then put it back on library.
I run a UR artifacts deck with Combustible Gearhulk, and in my group some people prefer to take the damage. The thing is that my deck is filled with huge artifacts so one time a friend took like 18 damage out of it :P
After Paradox Engine became a Tier Combo in Commander Wizards just decided it's not overpowered enough and released a Commander that goes infinite with it :)! They should probably just include the Paradox Engine and Isochron Scepter in the deck for that matter
Don’t copy myr battlesphere’s attack trigger, you tap your myr on the ability’s resolution, so if you tap 8 myr to the copy of the ability, the original won’t do anything else for you.
Would Twanos copy ability work with Magistrate's Scepter's second ability and allow you take two extra turns? Or can you just get charge counters faster
Assembly-Worker Tribal (tbh it made me a little salty when you had self-assembler as a background art and NOT talk about its potential. This + Arcane Adaptation allows you to get whatever creature you want with Self Assembler. It's like a Tamiyo's Journal but with an etb ability.
Question for everyone out there, if i cast a creature with a ETB trigger then in response use ashnod's transmogrant/thran forge or any other ability to turn that creature into an artifact creature can i then copy it with Tawnos?
Tawnos locks your opponents out with sands of time as sands of time untaps all tapped permanents and taps all in tapped permanents. Copy the ability on opponents turns to never let them untap. Copy it on your turn to gain infinite Mana and activations with tawnos.
v.x richards Its not bannable, if its cmc was 3 I could see the argument but its a piece of a multi piece combo that costs 5 and is very fragile, a single removal spell or counterspell and it all comes crashing down.
To be honest, I was looking forward a lot to the Jund deck, but now after the spoilers I am somewhat disappointed and my hype for commander 2018 has more or less died down.
Same here. I was very exited for Jund lands, and then we found out the main commander was a Planeswalker, which I hate, and now the two other Jund Commanders suck and have nothing to do with lands, while all three of the Izzet commanders focus around artifacts. I'm very disappointed in Commander 2018.
I think people forget Kurkesh exists. He's only got 200 decks on EDHREC and is barely in any decks, especially once you'd think he'd be a natural fit, like Breya.
Pfft y'all are talking about pili architect and I'm over here with my Myr Battlesphere, krark clan ironworks, trading Post, clock of omens, mycosynth golem wombo combo
