That Koa must be brand new? Mine is 4 years old and sounds a lot deeper than my Hog! Not surprising under fingerpicking all the guitars sounded very similar .. def agree that strumming the Koa sounded the worst
I’m hoping it opens up with more playing. It doesn’t get enough right now but I am going to give it new duties soon where I’ll be playing it more. I picked up a 2015 Martin D Junior that is all solid wood and really impressive.
@@jasonford7481 probably no. I didn't remember this video, so I watched it again and the difference is subtle and slight. I was most likely using headphones, ear buds or a Bluetooth speaker.

The backs and sides are definitely part of the sound you hear, but you’re right about the tops. That’s where the majority of the vibration happens and, in turn, the tone comes from. It’s an effective and tried and true strategy. And it’s cost effective, which is why you see so many laminate sides and back guitars. And while it’s laminate, it still has tone. Maybe not as sweet and sustaining as a solid wood, but it can still sound pretty good. Your average person probably can’t even tell the difference. Martin X Series are a good example. Good tone and that Martin feel for a fraction of the price. I have several solid wood Martin guitars, and I have a 12-string that’s HPL back and sides and plays great.
The Rosey by Far and if you are a Stanch finger picker you cant go wrong. The Hog is second and line and the Koa just sounds too thin and Tinsely metal sound...ughh.
We can agree on the Rosewood. I think we differ a bit on the Koa, but it's one of those things that there are no wrong answers. Completely up to each individual.
For me it isn't really close. I picked up that used Rosewood at Guitar Center and it just sounded aeons better than any GS Mini I have ever picked up. I didn't walk in there planning on buying one (I was actually going to look at a Guild 12-string on sale), but I just couldn't put it down. I finally realized it was because the Rosewood was 10 years old and the spruce top just aged very well. I hear the Koa does sound better as it ages as well, so I'll most likely hang onto it as well. I'll tell you how smitten I was with this Rosewood. I had the Mahogany listed for sale since last weekend and it sold last night. I went to buy that Guild 12-string on sale today and saw another used Rosewood (with the ES pickup) and bought it. I figured me selling the Mahogany the day before and seeing another used Rosewood in great condition with the pickup was a sign. Which do you prefer?
@@Xenovid I really like both Rosewood and Mahogany. I picked up the rosewood first then decided to swap it for the mahogany. If I had the money I’d buy both😂
