These smaller scale acoustic basses, such as this one or the Kala UBass, have turned out to be great all-purpose instruments. Especially for home recording, but also for playing live. These types of instruments are definitely underrated.
Awesome.. i played one of these at the music store while biding my time and was surprised how smooth these play. and the rich sound i didn't expect from a mini. Wonderful bass
I tried one of these and was amazed at the deep raspy tone. The strings did seem to be spaced too far apart though. Further apart than your standard fender jazz bass or similar
I tried it, it wasn't for me. I actually thought it sounded pretty good, but not loud enough and the scale is way too small to get any type of bass "feel". Way expensive too.
Bronze on an AB are terrible. I switched to nylon tapewounds on my Ibanez and I would want to switch these out immediately. Does anyone know if this bass is only compatible with the stock strings? That would be important to note. :)
IN MY HONEST HUMBLE opinion; he tries to play it like an electric but the truth is it's not - - I had the pleasure to play instore in the music room and of course if you're trying to match sounds it will fail but if you're going for an individual touch with much added finesse this is the bass to choose; again, a great job just not the right touch for a delicate sounding guitar-bass 🎸🎸🎸🎵🎸🎸🎸
Yep, acoustic bassguitar technique is rather different than playing an e-bass. The e-bass technique makes it sound scratchy, the tone is dry and way to bright. I play a much cheaper model but I use flatwounds (for jazz e-bass). This makes a nice sound, similar to a double bass. And it is loud.
I don't get it. What the heck with the fret buzz on all these mini bass reviews? Played one for the first time today and it sounds so much better than all of these videos. I'm a below average guitarist that's new to playing bass and I didn't hold back playing this thing 🤷♂️. I've never had so much fun playing a bass before today.
Good overview of the spec, but the sound example lets this video down unfortunately. I know you admitted to not being a bass player, but here’s my take on guitar players trying to play bass. Respectfully, it is that the way this is plucked gives no useful representation of what this would sound like if played by a bass player. This is because the way it it is plucked makes a MASSIVE difference to the timbre of the instrument. If plucked with a rest stroke (into the guitar, not away from it) through the string, with more flesh and NO NAILS, this would allow the instrument to resonate as it should. This technique is particularly nice played over the end of the fretboard, and even at the octave of the note played. Instead when picked with the fingers tips as in this video, you tend to pull the string up, it then slaps back, and gives more string than body, and is frankly not a very nice sound on an an acoustic bass guitar.
Played this at Guitar center in a Orange Ct. Every note on the A string rattled. Asked the Mtg of store about this. His reply was he played it and it was ok... I exited.... wasn't going to argue with this knuckle head. Customer lost.
