A simple guitar tip on how to adjust the truss rod of a Taylor acoustic guitar. I showed the most important tool to use, the 1/4" truss rod wrench which is 6.35 mm and NOT 6.5mm. This procedure is essential in guitar setup.

Hello there. My Taylor is a model 110-GB. It's always had high action since new, so not pleasant to play (so I don't play it!). I just took it out, and am going to adjust the truss rod. The adjusting nut on this model is on the end of the neck inside of the sound hole. I'll guess the process is the same as the head stock end adjustment, but wanted to check out your video. Thank you. ...beautiful playing.

Sounds like your nut slots are too high to me. check the gap between the strings and the top of the first fret. Should be 0.020" on low E & A, 0.018" on D & G and 0.016" on B & high E (all on open unfitted strings / without capo)

@Edwin-E
@Edwin-E 2 года назад
Taylor has its distinct bright tone. I don't know about string buzz you mentioned. If it is setup properly then, it should be ok. And also depends on your playing style. If you strum so hard, then you need a bit higher string action.

I have adjusted the truss rod, the action is high - 4mm. I don’t know what else could it be. And also I have buzz in other tunings which also doesn’t let me be fully open with my guitar. Hello Edwin, thanks for the nice video. I have gotten a lot of help from you in regards with my Martin. I just traded it in to get a Taylor 114ce. Edwin, what a difference in the action, I have arthritis in my fingers as well as them being small. I really was struggling with the Martin. I have to change the strings though, they are 13s..I am going down to 11s, so I will have to adjust the neck a little. I like the sound of my Taylor better than the Martin, although the Martin had a little deeper sound, but play ability of the Taylor is the difference between night and day. Edwin, which do you like better. Thank you for your videos, they make things easier. DAVID

I have an old aria acoustic guitar. When i remove the truss rod cover all I see is a regular nut that is at the bottom of the rod with some threads exposed. There is no eggcorn or bullet in front of it. There is no possible way to fit a socket in to tighten it since there is no clearance in front of the rod because the wood head stock is in front of it. It can probably be accessed with a open ended wrench. I need to straighten the neck. it has a bow in it and the strings are pretty high from the fret board. Any input?

If the neck is already straight, then tightening the truss rod will cause reverse bowing which will cause fret buzz on the lower frets. If the action is too high, then probably needs a neck reset. I think my other video can answer about your guitar action. Lighter gauge will help a little bit. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vK6R0zgNi0g.html

I never had tuning problems, then I moved to Pennsylvania, a strange place where strings are sharp AND flat at the same time.....
@Edwin-E

I'm guessing it has something to do with humidity. The wood moves a bit with the changes in humidity .

The purpose of Truss Rod Adjustment is to keep the strings as low as possible without buzzing when played relatively hard. I am saying relatively because it depend to the play style of each guitar player.
@ronghuang586
@ronghuang586 3 года назад
Hi Edwin, do not lower the action too much, otherwise you gonna get annoying buzz in your Guitar.
