Aww i think it would make her so happy to hear that as she once said in an interview if she had a super power she would want it to be healing people and in a way she truly does heal people..incredible :`)
I am an old codger and was never into taylor swift, but seeing this beautiful young woman singing a georgeous phil collins number changed all that and blew away my prejudices. She sings this with such sensitivity and she really owns it. The song is a tale of obsessive love with a gorgeous melody and this cover has encouraged me to find life and artistry in places I thought there was none. Thanks Phil and Taylor.
What a lovely comment. You may love her albums Folklore and Evermore, if you like this. Listen to the slower songs off those, especially Ivy, Evermore, Champagne Problems (this one especially). As well as the song Safe and Sound by her. You may enjoy
Yes. I'm older too, and just discovering Taylor's wonderful talent during the past few weeks. Others have said that there's a healing quality to Taylor's songs and her voice. I quite agree, and that is so important in these challenging times! ❤
Not enough singers today understand the point of emoting and connecting the notes with the lyrics, with the audience. Many can sing the notes, but that connection isn't there in a live performance. Bette Midler commented on this a few years back. Swift gets that and I think that's a huge part of the reason why she has had such a loyal fan following. She understands that peforming isn't just about who is on stage. It's about making that emotional connection with your audience.
yep agree the way she performs and her lyrics resonates with millions of people worldwide is one of the reasons she's still at the top of the music industry and why she's getting better as the years go on
I'd be honored if some fans of Taylor's 1989 era would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of BLANK SPACE and NEW ROMANTICS on my YT channel in tribute to the greatest album and tour of the '010s decade. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks & keep on swifting.
There's something about the combo of Taylor's voice and an 80s-sounding synth that hits different. It suits her well, which is why I love songs like Bigger Than The Whole Sky, Don't You, and You Are In Love.
ballads and slow-tempo songs really and perfectly compliment her voice. I don't understand why people say that she can't sing because having a high or rare vocal range isn't the only basis of whether someone can or cannot sing.
Exactly, take a look at Adele and Ariana Grande. Both have completely different vocal ranges but both can sing. Like I would know cause they both sound great to me. There’s actual people who can’t sing and those are the ones who have horrible pitch and control and don’t have a trained ear and need lots of autotune.
I am a life long Phil Collins fan and her version brought tear to my eye. She delivered an emotional element to this song that I hadn’t felt since the first time I heard it from Phil. Thank you Taylor!
@@sidkarpav8655 when I listen to heart-breaking songs I don't want to feel high. That's why I wrote what I wrote, please don't always act like smartasses on the internet thanks
Because her own song writing is so spectacular and her sound is so much her sound at this point, I had never considered how she would sound doing a cover. This is beautiful.
When her story is written, she won't be known as just another pop star. Taylor Swift will be remembered for her uncanny storytelling abilities and how she effortlessly communicates her feelings through music even when she's singing someone else's song. That's why I'm proud to call myself a Swiftie. That and I love her sense of humor and admire how generous she is to her fans. 💓💛💙💚💜♥️💘🐈
From a big Phil Collins fan, this version is just perfection. Beautiful effort by Taylor, back up singers and band. I just keep coming back to this just to appreciate the brilliance of the performance!
The usual BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge set up: dark room, band, singer Taylor's set up: 23 carpets 8 musicians in total 7 instruments 1 Taylor 1 fancy panorama view fancy lights
Laura you forgot another one, she did 6 songs!!! Most of the time they only did 2 songs, except maybe Ari she did 4. And Taylor didn’t flew to UK, the BBC come to her to US. I mean only Taylor can do that.. 🤷🏻♀️
@@artsyputsy actually they did it for miley too! BBC has to come to her and to her house and she did Malibu, younger now, party in the usa, see you again and i think one cover...
People say she can't sing because she does song some shit songs. Truth. I love Taylor but her choices are not always worth singing. This one However will be cherished by me. Perfectly fine.
@@jeffisso her 'shit songs' are tailored to appeal with modern audience. If you stop being blind and start to listen her songs outside of the 'shit songs' hits, you will hear that a lot of them are full of emotions like this.
Even if she's not the most "skilled" singer in the world in terms of actual technique and range, but one must admit: just simply the sound and tone of her voice is indescribably gorgeous in a way that just melts you down to a giant ass puddle. She just has such an attractive and audibly pleasing voice that one could listen to all day. So yeah, sure, someone like Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey can pull off more "technical" skill than Taylor and yet I would still find myself rather listening to Taylor all day instead of them because the sound of her voice is just more pleasurable to my ear (it's beautiful, rich, velvety, smooth, and always consistently containing a special blend of authentic depth & emotion). When I hear her sing, it's like every muscle in my body just finally relaxes and all my worries get swept away until the song is over. Not many other artists (especially current artists) have been able to have such an effect on me so yeah, I don't know, I just think it's really something special. Every word she sings just always feels raw, genuine, & honest to her own emotions instead of just being some manufactured BS like most songs we hear these days. All in all - like her or not, but people should at least respect her for being a legitimate artist because that's something that the mainstream music of this generation is direly lacking.
I suggest you watch "Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions," where she sang songs from her eighth album "folklore" in such a gentle way, sounds so good and relaxing. She also explains the meaning behind each of them.
The way she sings now is way better than back in the day. In the past her voice, was too high pitched for my liking and songs like Shake it off were like casual torture, lol. Her later works sound wonderful and the lyrics are also beautiful. Hopefully she stays this way 🙂
@@ncamara670 her vocals are less squeak and pitchy since her vocals are really improvd and mature which is why i enjoy somoe of the TV version more like fearless TV
@@ncamara670 Right??? Her low voice is by far my favorite of any other female singer. I used to not even realize how low she goes in some of her songs until I tried covering them and was like "how the fuck does she sing this deep?? and have it still sound feminine?" A good example is Wildest Dreams. Try singing the verses of that song, and then try singing the chorus. It's a hell of a lot more range than one might think, at least for me lol. Ugh omg also in Anti-Hero, the final time she says "everybody agrees, everybody agrees" in the bridge towards the end of the song in a super low register... shiiiiiiit it sounds so fucking intoxicating lmao like wtf 😂
So you're leavin' In the mornin' On the early train Well, I could say everything's all right And I could pretend and say goodbye Got your ticket Got your suitcase Got your leaving smile Though I could say that's the way it goes And I could pretend you won't know That I was lying 'Cause I can't stop loving you No, I can't stop loving you No, I won't stop loving you Why should I? We took a taxi To the station Not a word was said And I saw you walk across the road For maybe the last time, I don't know Feeling humble Heard a rumble on the railway track And when I hear the whistle blow I'll walk away and you won't know That I'll be crying 'Cause I can't stop loving you No, I can't stop loving you No, I won't stop loving you Why should I? I'll always be here by your side (Why, why, why?) I never wanted to say goodbye (Why even try?) I'm always here if you change Change your mind So you're leavin' In the mornin' On the early train Well, I could say everything's alright And I could pretend and say goodbye But that would be lying 'Cause I can't stop loving you (can't stop loving you) No, I can't stop loving you (I won't stop loving you) No, I won't stop loving you Why should I? 4'59 she looks across the studio and watches the producer breakout in tears , politely grins nd finnishes off ..Taylor you made it ! Love this version , love the set ....thank you thank you ...
@@eleanor4759I presume you’re talking about her re-recording of her first six albums to get the master rights back. Why do I get the feeling that you’re a little jealous of this woman?
I'd be honored if some Taylor Swift & Phil Collins fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of NEW ROMANTICS and AGAINST ALL ODDS on my YT channel in tribute to these songwriting legends from 2 different musical generations. Richard Swift - Your entitled to your opinion. As am I. I simply am not a sheep that relies on social media to tell me what’s good. The original song is great. Taylor is an impostor who won’t grow up.
lmao I was literally thinking that the same way people have comfort characters, I've got Taylor swift singing I can't stop loving you and holy ground in the live lounge and the clean/long live/new year's day mashup
The tune, rhythm and way of "why should i" made my heart feel the question... its so beautiful.. the melody of this version made me feel the emotion i shouldn't be feeling.. im sat on my sofa watching a movie and playing this ..... but that tune puts me in a situation im not in
This great cover she did on tour in '15 (link at the end of my comment) was a gift to me in more ways than one: she introduced me to Mary J. Blige, the Godmother of hip-hop(a genre I hadn't followed up 'til then) Tay admits "it's absolutley foolish to try to sing a Mary J. Blige song. 'cause she's the greatest singer that ever lived", but Tay does a good job of it🙏 And she shared with 20,000 of her fans (and now 3.6 million viewers of the video!) the fact that she experienced doubt every single day, and had accepted the fact that she always would. Hearing that the most loved person on Earth would feel the doubts like most of us do brought me to tears. She has been such a healing, supportive influence in my life, and I will love her forever for that💖 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GZ0474w66uw.html
You can tell she means all these words. I find it interesting that should chose this song to cover during promotion for Lover. It seems like she lost her lover.
At that time she had found the true love of her life, talented British actor Joe Alwyn, but their conflicting schedules didn't allow for them to be together all the time. That changed with the pandemic, when they were able to cohabitate, and with Joe being a musician too he co-wrote songs with her. They used a pseudonym for him on the album, but when it won a Grammy for Album of the Year, he got his first Grammy :) Here's hoping that after her 2023 Eras U.S.Tour and 2024 World Tour they will be starting a family. Tay had an idyllic childhood with a great brother and parents, and she would make a great mom. It would preclude further touring until her kids are in college, but she will always be songwriting every day and making great music. Hopefully for another 60 years or so :)
This is a surprisingly sophisticated and nuanced vocal performance, one of the best I've heard Taylor give. There is nowhere to hide here- the background music and vocals are turned very low, they might as well not be there at all. Plus since it's not her song I'm impressed by how she gives just the right touch of emotion to it. Not too sweet, not too sad.
It's the good thing about her. She's not the rangiest-most virtuouso singer, but she can make you feel the lyrics. She could sing Gangnam Style and still make it feel like some trascendental sh*t
Agree. she honestly used to be pretty bad. When she sang "I can sing" on that one song, she really couldn't. Not in tune anyways. And while she's still not exactly Celine Dion she can definitely can sing now and actually has a really amazing low voice
@@antonynation9954 She specifically said she was covering the great Phil Collins here. It's definitely a Phil Collins song, and I'm sure Mr. Sayer is very proud of how well Phil made this song his own.
TS 1989 era fans please come by & explore my YT channel for '010s nostalgia acoustic covers, including BLANK SPACE and NEW ROMANTICS. Also did a version of AGAINST ALL ODDS in honor of the great Phil Collins. Peace & stay safe in the '020s.
Then she could try other songs by Leo Sayer, the original singer of this song. In case you don't know, Phil Collins's version is a cover of the original by Leo Sayer in 1978. She could try : - "When I Need You" which was previously covered by Julio Iglesias. This is the most famous song by Leo Sayer that became hit in mid 1970s. That song may fit to current situation when we are all supposed to stay home.
You’re right on the history. In this case she takes it to another level and it’s beautiful and it’s so emotional that leaves heartbreaking individuals wanting to hear more of her. Cause it’s that passionate from the ❤️
Dear Taylor I am 66, twice your age. I felt you in Back to December and ìn Raindrops on my guitar also on Doubt with Mary J Blige. Your rendition of Phil Collins song Can't stop loving you isexquisite. I love you so much. You have my vote on Travis
I just closed my eyes listening to this stunning cover and I felt like I am in another world where everything is perfect, where is no pain, but only pure love. I wish I could live there.. ❤️ Please be kind to each other and have an amazing day ☀️

This young lady is really good and I agree with Phil she really does nail it ,she’s worth all the money she earns.very seldom does a rare talent such as hers come along, and that’s from a guy who’s a tad older than the great Phil Collins.
I COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE! I am 55 and I have felt the same way about Taylor for a while. my daughter became obsessed with Taylor when she was 7 years old, that is what got my attention. The more I watched and learned what a wholesome really genuine person she was I really fell in love with her and her music.Someone on here said feelings matter and they really do.She is an epic story teller through her music and I just love it all so much. I think my lucky stars we got the chance to meet her in 2015.
Taylor went from being "the girl with the breakup songs" to having one of the most beautiful voices out there and amazing lyrics ...aka from artist of the year to artist of the decade :P
@Andy Webster "People love to explain away a woman's success in the music industry" - TS. That contends the first part of your comment pretty well. As for her musical abilities, she's a fantastic songwriter who has written all of her own music since the age of 12. She wrote an entire album by herself at the age of 18. One of her songs is considered one of the greatest songs of the 21st Century. She plays 4 different instruments. The fact that you think she's an "average" musician goes to show that you know nothing about her. She's a goddamn musical prodigy.
To be a good singer you don’t have to sound like Ariana grande or people on reality singing shows. Tone and the way it comes across with feeling matters
Kim Cardoso agreed, it's hard to describe, but you know it when you hear it... This is true!!! I love Ari's songs but it seems that i can't feel the emotions in her songs. Whenever i listen to Taylor, i just know what feelings she wants me to feel.
OMG YESSSSSS i was thinking like “where did i heard this sound, it is so familiar??” since don’t you came out now that i’ve seen your comment i am so happy that someone thinks the same with me🙏🏻 i was like “is it the archer or some 80s song?”😆
You got your wish! So much so that my sister had to readjust the stereo in her car 'cause she had turned the bass all the way up for Classical music :)
It sounds like she wrote this song the whole time. It is shown that Taylor has successfully done a great job with representing the meaning of Phil's masterpiece. She is pure talented!
Extraordinary... Jesus. Her soft voice, her facial expression and her lookin at the camera like that.... she could also be an actress. It feels like a lullaby before going to bed
I am a big fan of Phil Collins…and love this song by him! I also love Taylor’s interpretation of this song. Different…but hints of the original…so tasteful. She really as talented as a writer & musician as she is a performer. Magnificent!
Just because you don't like edgy music doesn't mean every singer is "trying to be edgy" grow up. Just admit you're biased and don't like edgy music. Don't hate on the artists who put their heart and soul into their music because they like to make that kind of music.
