The lake district is a place in England where a lot of poets lived, William Wordsworth who was born there came back to live there later in his life as well, they were called the lake poets

Yes! It's like the lakes represent an idyll or escapism, but also she's referring to real places (and people!)

I read this somewhere but Taylor once posted an Instagram post with caption "if no one sees a tree falling, does it really make a sound?" so the whole "a red rose grew in a frozen land with no one to tweet(twitter) it" means a lot of things happen in our lives that are very significant and note worthy but just because you don't post it on social media doesn't mean it did not happen.

Windermere is a large, maybe 15 miles long, lake in the Lakes District, a favorite place in England to escape for quiet idyllic getaways. I think this song is all about how her romance with Joe Allwyn flowered into reality at Windermere.

Joe is the red rose. Because in the middle of that whole mess, when her reputation sucked, one good thing came from it: Joe

the red rose represents her current relationship with Joe Alwyn, the frozen ground is her past relationships or everything that happened before reputation, and she says that no one was around to tweet because their relationship started without anyone knowing and so far is very private

Her favorite game has been scrabble since she was a kid. To this dayyy. Also, she said she'd be an english teacher if not a musician. That speaks volumes to her language and intellect

The red rose lyric reminds me A LOT about 2pac's poem "the rose that grew from concrete" that speaks about growing and thriving despite the adversity one faces (for 2pac it was being black and growing up in America) but here its as if when she felt her lowest, when her love was completely frozen and when she went into hiding, something beautiful was able to grow (i.e. her love for not only herself but also her current boyfriend, Joe Alwyn).

So many good points were made! I really enjoyed this reaction. The lyric about the red rose being Taylor was such a genius catch! It makes perfect sense. This song is so special, especially how it puts such modern words (cell phone, tweet) in such an old timey song, while making a very clear critic of modern society being dominated by social media.

"to the Lakes where all the poets went to die" This makes me think about the 1989 movie Dead Poets Society hence the wide vocabulary and metaphors used like breaking free from the norm. The movie also takes on the symbolic quote "Carpe Diem" translating to "Seize the day" which I found as an underlying message on some of the lyrics such as the red rose grewing up out of ice frozen ground.

The rose line is interesting to me also because it makes me think of another song of hers (Call it what you want) where she says 'all my flowers grew back as thorns'. It's another example of her comparing herself (or her relationship) to flowers. And a rose is a flower *with* thorns.

& one More fun fact about this kind of hard vocabulary in this Track is, Back in 2019 when taylor released her first single From lover album Me! & It critically bashed by some people who criticize 'Spelling is Fun' in me! Song Saying "how 30 year old women say that kiddish word" So it's kind a Clap back from taylor to haters that she can write some words that you didn't even heard in your entire life! I think the line about hunters with cell phone are paparazzi. She sings about not belonging in the spotlight, she isn't for that paparazzi life. She wants to get away from that, so she ran away to the lakes district with Joe (their three year trip in Invisible String was at the lakes).

I am loving this song more each time I listen. The music and the lyrics are so beautiful Thanks for sharing your reaction. I loved all the little inferences and deductions you two drew from it, even the ones I saw differently. I'd love to see you react to her live cover of George Strait's song "Run" at the acm show honoring him. The one thats about 4:50 long, as it gives her pre-song banter about and to George. Also her live cover of "Untouchable" the first time she did it for the radio studios. (Clear Channel I think)

I've really enjoyed your reactions to Taylor's songs. I know this album is almost over, but is there any chance you'd go back in her discography? Red is one of her best albums lyrically, so it'd be cool to see you react to some of those songs as most people only know 2 or 3 of that (the bigger hits, We Are Never Getting Back Together, I Knew You Were Trouble, 22)

Her muse is her current relationship. Yes, you're right. Also, maybe you're right about her not belonging to her old label. It was mainly full of country artists and when Taylor jumped to pop country everyone despised her and that "she will never ever ever ever going back" to country ever again. Especially when she came out political. They said "Don't be like the Dixie Chicks."

Good catch on that "grew UP..." I have listened to this song, well, A LOT. I love it in so many ways, for so many reasons, and listening to reactions often helps me appreciate it more. I believe the 'rose' definitely is her now. While technology can take away, it can also add, it's a delicate (ding, ding, ding) balance. Thank goodness we hire photographers to cover weddings. Imagine trying to capture important moments using cell phone(s)... hunters. Good idea about RU-vid and words. Make sure you get royalties on that one. Haha

I think the red rose is about the relationship of her and Joe. It developed when she was so hurt over being dragged by Kanye and Kim . You can get a lot f the story from some of the songs in her reputation album. She talks about her hiding as she was so hurt and during that time she fell in love with Joe

If there is a place historically, where poets have gone to die, it might be Montmartre. It could just be the music industry, it has definitely suicided enough poets.
