TAYLORMADE M6 vs TAYLORMADE M4... Does Everyone Get Faster? In 2019 Taylormade released the M5 and M6 drivers, claiming “everybody gets faster” but the Taylormade M4 and M4 were very good! And very long! So I put the M4 vs M6 head to head and see if the M6 is better than the M4? Which driver will be the longest? Should you trade in your M4 for an m6? Will it increase ball speed? Let’s find out... and let’s do it now.

Really good video! There would seem to be a clear difference between the 2 drivers! I’d be interested in seeing how you do with a properly fit M4/M6. I suspect the stock Stiff shafts you used for this test played into the results a bit! Still the test was well worth it! Keep it coming! The one I really want to see is your M3 VS the new M5. Next on the list for me would be TS3 vs M5! I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!! 😀😀

Love your videos as you and your “mid handicapper” are much closer to me and my golfing partners in skill and humor. With all this “new technology” testing, I’d like to see you compare it with your overall gaming averages of all testing. Similar to what RS has been doing of late. Keep up the good work !!!

Great stuff James keep it up ☺, I would love to see them on the course, as with Marks results with the M6 your dispersion looked pretty good, that's what impressed me the most when Mark did the M6, and that's the sort of thing that would give me confidence with a driver, and I would be very interested to hear what you think about the M6 as far as it's forgiveness is concerned Also I would be interested if once you've done a few driver reviews this year, if you might be able to range the drivers on forgiveness and distance

Best comparison I've seen yet on these two.. Would love to see them compared to my driver ( Ping G400 LST).. My course is quite tight so it's more about dispersion on off centre hits than distance, but if the TM's have a tighter dispersion on those shots and get a few more yards then I'd consider swapping.. keep up the great work James... :-)

Club tech can only do so much, in the end its down to the person swinging the club that gets the results. But this is the time to get the last years models as they are going to be a lot cheaper now lol. Also compare drivers from cheaper brands like Wilson, Benross etc to see if you get the same numbers! Does price really matter? Great video James!!

Always love your videos and I try to watch every one of them. I like watching the driver comparisons, even if it's just the newest club compared to your "normal" shots. The numbers for the newest club are useless without a comparison to something. For this test, you were swinging slightly faster with the M6 so your club head speed was 1.2 mph faster. That accounts for probably half of the extra distance. The M6 is still slightly better but if I had an M4 (which I don't), I'm not sure I'd rush out to spend all that money for less than 5 yards more (using the same club head speed). If the dispersion was a lot less, that would certainly make a better case for buying the M6. Sad to say but my shot consistency is crap so I know that all this technology can't fix everything.
@Tielc
@Tielc 5 лет назад
Bsleee2000 I agree! I know James and all the RU-vidrs have their own style and format. But James has been around long enough now, I wonder if it would benefit him to show his “averages” like Rick Shiels does when he looks at new drivers?
@bslee2000A
@bslee2000A 5 лет назад
@@Tielc Yes I agree that it would be great for James to show the results against his "averages". Rick Shiels recent example comparing the M3, M4, M5 & M6 against his averages was very helpful. I'd also like to see more tests with club head speeds below 100mph. I'm definitely in that category. I wonder how much extra distance (if any) would be seen with these new drivers compared to drivers release in the last 1-3 years.

More of this please James, very helpful indeed. If possible it would be great to do this with rival clubs, M5 vs Flash Sub Zero for instance but with the same shaft ideally which I know complicates things somewhat. I think Taylormade have made a mess of their advertising, why have concentrated on ball speed instead of the one thing that will definitely get sales which is distance. I don't know any amateur golfers who talk about their ball speed, why go there????

Having a fitted M4 and happy with it. I'm just getting used to play it. Is the M6 really an "upgrade"? I personally doubt about. What really matters to me is dispersion and consistency, not gaining few yards, a lower iron on next shot can fix that. I'm a mid handicap golfer, I expect to play my M4 some more years and then switch for a M-uneven driver later (most likely a M11 or 13😅). I can better invest 500€ in golf lessons. Thanks for your videos James 🙏

Great Mark. Realize may not always be convenient but a Mid Handicapper comparison relative to your assessment values would cover the whole spectrum of testing. Are the manufacturers standard shaft options for in this case drivers solely based iron byron type technology. Or is there a human factor interface.? Personally feel the manufacturers create these fantastic products for mainly adhoc distribution to the golfer and its now make the most of it, sales figures are priority. No apparent initiative over optimisation of fitting standards assuring you get close to what the product image portrays.?

I would love to see a comparison between the newest drivers and and ones from 5-6 generations ago like Taylor made R11S or similar. Since some can only afford to change a driver every 5-7 years. That is where many would like to see the comparison and if there is a 20 yard gain from 2012 drivers. They can then upgrade to an M4 when they are on sale at 40% less.

Great review James , I think most people don't upgrade everytime there's a new club out , although I'm sure a few minority do . But surely it is your golf swing that makes the most difference, is 7 yards a big deal , I think not, all the marketing and super fancy names that all the club manufacturers use year on year for there technology I find a turn off and bores me and really is pushing me away from the game rather than attracting me to it. Am I alone with this though🤔. Keep up the good work.

Because the manufacturers are at or near the design limits set by the USGA and R&A, there are only slight incremental gains to be found and their Marketing depts are desperately trying to make the small gains seem bigger. The reality of ALL the Driver releases due this year is that they will be better, but not by much. But anyway can we have a mass Test at the end of the release season, to test the new Titleist, TM, Callaway, Ping (coming soon), Cobra, Mizuno, Srixon and last but not least PXG offerings to find the Champion!

Just picked up an M6 on clearout....all of the testing and reviews I've seen suggest that the difference between M6 and SIM or SIM2 are negligible. To be fair I'm still hitting my G400 just fine....I'm a sucker for a bargain to test things out for myself and see if I can't find one I can be more consistent with. Drivers have been pinned against the max COR for more than 10 years. They have been working with moving the weight inside the head, and toying around with swing weight to help with forgiveness, launch conditions, and eeking out a few extra MPH of clubhead speed. Even with those elements there is a ceiling that probably the clubs are banging their heads off now. When you find one that works for your swing - game that one until the head blows up!!

Almost half of the M4 shots would have been deep In the trees or OB. With one outright mishit at 244 yards. Not sure this makes for a fair comparison. All the pulls left would jump up the ball speed with M4 and the 244 shot would bring the average distance down. I know this has been discussed before but eliminating outright mishits might be something to consider for a true comparison of the capabilities of each club. Always enjoy your content James!

I use the M4 9.5 Driver and 3 Wood. Will be getting M6 for the irons (4-PW) and rescue hybrid club (#3).

I appreciate this review. Was considering which one I will buy. Probably just get the m4 to be honest... The m6 is slightly better yes, but is it worth that much more? Not for a non professional probably not.

Good test james well presented but cost will also become a big factor as presumably the m6 costs a lot more than the m4 so 1 mph extra, more expensive not so sure 🤔

Yes please test against the M2. I play an M2 and looking to get fitted for my next driver....wonder how much all the hype is on these as M2 (2017) is an awesome club! Also attracted to the Mizuno ST180 too mind you? Seems like excellent value?

The general comment seems to be that there is effectively no difference. The one mph ball speed differential , is pretty much in the only significantly "slow" swing result , which fell within the M4 batch ( no. 6). Minus 10 mph amounts to 1 mph overall , and four of the other M4 swing results if repeated instead of the exceptionally poor hit would have tipped the average the other way , i.e. to slightly favour the M4. Further , the fastest outright speed (and distance) was achieved by the M4 - (shot 7) All in all there seems hardly anything in it. Very enjoyable and informative test and probably the best that could be done in a reasonably compact assessment.Thanks very much.

Hi, where did you buy the impact box? I’m building my own simulator room but I don’t know where to find the right projector/impact screen. Thanks! Great video!
