I think the thing that makes this feel like the Warner Bros. cartoons we all know and love is the fact that there’s no blocking. I’m noticing a lot of players having to run back and forth to sway the momentum of gameplay, almost like how cartoons run on and off frame to convey who has the upper hand at any given moment. I wonder if that was intentional.
I love that this seems to have characters from MULTIPLE eras. That LOTS of people of all ages will love. They actually understood the appeal of Smash. There was Steve AND Mega Man AND Banjo-Kazooie. Likewise, this has Tom and Jerry, Jake, Batman, Garnet...it's like. They *get* what people want from this kind of game; someone from everyone's childhood.
Perhaps the biggest gap I see in the roster right now in terms of eras of representation is late 90s-00s Cartoon Network, which is right around my childhood. Batman is clearly BTAS-inspired and that's great, but that was actually slightly before my time; I feel like Dexter, the Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo are perfect fits that just aren't there yet. Early Adult Swim is a gap, too, but I feel like the proper way to include that would be something like Birdman with a Harvey Birdman alt costume. ...and if they ever wanted to go for guest characters, that era also has all the licensed anime that they could get for cheap because anime wasn't really a big 'thing' yet. Speed Racer, or early Toonami fodder like Gundam Wing.
@@StriderZessei Space Ghost was my first thought, but with him you hit the problem where both the serious cartoon and Coast to Coast have the same design, which puts a theoretical Space Ghost character in a weird place; you'd have to represent them both simultaneously, but you also can't represent them both simultaneously because their energies are so different and fans of one will be disappointed by the other. (Presuming 'serious cartoon' Space Ghost has fans, of course, I don't think I've ever met one.) But you could swing doing both Birdman and Harvey Birdman, in the same way that Superman has a Bizzaro costume.
Things I’m absolutely loving: -the attention to detail and the animation. Just, WOW!! - the markers that appear on the characters while fighting. Very helpful!! -it’s a very MECHANICAL fighter, much more than I thought it would be! -the characters are, CHARACTERS!! There the characters we all love!
Things I'm hating: -Music is too serious for this kind of game???, it feels off and boring. - No collision on characters???? they can pass trough you and get on top of you all the time making it super hard to hit them and makes the game look wonky.
That last point is important, and I know a million people already made the comparisons to Nick Allstars, but it's worth stressing that MV's cast actually feels fun to use. Most of Nick's roster is looking to do the same thing and feel like they're just mechanics. MV's cast come with unique features and flavor I wasn't expecting to see at all like Taz with his Tasty debuff, Velma with her clue mechanic, Tom and Jerry's sheer setup potential, etc. And best of all these all make sense within the context of their characters. Very Smash-esque if you will.
@@danriu Don't care about the lack of collisions personally cuz it's pretty apparent that they sacrificed that for mobility. I agree with the music though. Don't get me wrong, I think it's superb. Very well scored, but it sounds like something that should be in a Soul Calibur game and not a game with a bunch of cartoon characters in it.
@@richardsinclair7661 I think some of the music is placeholder at the moment. (Keep in mind this is Alpha.) The only music on an actual stage that sounded serious was the Batcave music which, makes sense. Scooby Doo stage has Scooby Doo music, Adventure Time stage has some Cartoon Network and Adventure Time themes to the music (and it's lighthearted). I definitely would like more of the music like on the Adventure Time stage.
@@ShadowOrexia That's a totally fair point. I honestly forgot it was in alpha. It looks pretty polished already and those animations are some of the best I've ever seen. Looking forward to its progress.
It really feels like multiversus was keeping an eye on nickelodeon fighting game and learned what more to add on and do. Since they have the budget to get it done, so far I am impressed with what they have made.
Except...it plays, looks, animates and controls nothing like it lol not combos, not neutral, not character designs or personality (thank God). It's more of smash meets brawlhalla
this game was in production way before the nick game was even announced, with how the process of making games works, they couldnt have added/changed anything based off nickelodeon all star brawl
Tom & Jerry’s fighting style is my favorite, it’s just so cool to see them do the cat & mouse thing as a way to fight. I will say, I’m impressed with how enjoyable this game is thus far. Can’t wait to see all the potential characters they could add too.
Ikr! Max learns fighting games crazy fast and it still blows my mind how can just jump from game to game and be pretty decent at all of them. It takes me soooo long just to learn a few characters and the mechanics of just 1 fighting game
When you have mastered the fundamentals of a fighting game, it will carry on to the others you play. Even if the mechanics are different, your muscle memory and reflexes are already trained
@@brunoxd151 that’s true, but some mechanics like those of KOF compared to Smash compared to Tekken are so different that jumping between them the way max does is just impressive. It’s not like MK, KI and SC where the base is similar, he’s got crazy fighting games adaptability, you can see his experience with fighting games
idk he ask the chat questions I think are obvious. Like in early Dbfz he didn't know that u get meter from advancing toward the opponent and he thought it was everything else.
In one match today, I accidentally launched Bugs safe into Steven shield, it bounced into Batman and pushed him right into falling rocket I launched earlier, and I thought what I can't wait to see some competitive tournaments of this game in which pros will plan combos like this
@@Kiboune_YT that sounds awesome, they made a genius move focusing on 2v2, the only thing they need to work on now is making the game a little easier to follow for spectators.
@@Kiboune_YT funny you mention that combo, Hungrybox pulled off something very similar to that in one of his recent vids, that shit was raw AF Good shit on pulling that off
After some matches, i actually found the original HUD, placing Health under each character, to be much more helpful. The flame when they get over a 100 makes it pretty easy to know who to go after and the chaos in 2v2 makes not needing to dart your eyes to the bottom of the screen very helpful
I'm happy to see Max giving it a chance after the lukewarm trailer reception. I've been in all the tests and really think it's something worth the time.
I’ve been enjoying the game so far, & I’m curious about how things will shake out competitively. Between doubles & the perks, I hope the game takes off in the competitive scene. Not that I think MultiVersus will kill Smash, but it’ll definitely coexist alongside it. On that note, hopefully MultiVersus has some offline options, as this could be great for parties.
We don't need a Smash killer, as my experience has been that a game that goes out to "kill" another doesn't typically succeed. That said, if it can be a good game in its own right and does things that Smash doesn't (good online, good customization, different flavor of characters and stages, etc.), it can carve its own audience for people looking for an alternative. Especially if they keep the updates and content coming steadily.
@@MechaMan2012 its apples and oranges at this point. The style of play and intentions are different from smash. It can replace smash solely because its cross platform, imo. Other than that they're different.
I hope that in the subsequent content they add post-release they add a lot of alternative costumes to each character that are free to grind for you to obtain, but if you want to avoid it, you can purchase the entire costume for I don't know, a dollar.
@@bryanperezbustos6049 Sounds like a dream. Tho as the F2P stroy goes, "Long ago there were F2P games, with scummy monetization all the same..." I really hope you're right tho. For the sake of not only us, but the game and the future of F2P fighters as a whole.
I'm having so much damn fun with this game, like it's such a refreshing yet familiar take on a platform fighter. The amount of quality care and time that was put into this game's development is felt. Can't wait for everyone else to be able to play too
Taz seems really so good and fun to play as! And I also love that they have unique lines for the characters when there fighting each other. More Looney Tunes characters like Duck Dodgers, Marvin The Martian and Wile E. Coyote would be cool to see in Multiversus.
When it comes out an locals are a thing I forsee this will be THE game I'll usually play with rando casuals. Its easy to get wherever and pretty much everyone knows at least a character from this. That plus it actually looks fun (haven't touched it) and lovingly crafted and you have the ultra combo.
I played it for 10 hours non-stop, because of how good this game is and I especially love Bugs Bunny moves. So many interesting combos of different skills
I think why this one seems better to me than the Nick one is that the Nickelodeon brawl feels like avatars you operate rather than the actual character.
Haven't been able to put it down since I've started....it's really amazing and has such a unique charm to it that most fighting games nowadays are missing.
If you turn off the mature filter, some of the characters curse. Jake's line to Taz becomes "Stop spinning so I can kick your ass!", Harley can say "Bitchin'!" after landing a good blow, and there's some other ones, too.
I appreciate that the game scores you on K.O.'s instead of stock, allowing both players on a team to continue playing instead of one getting removed from play and forcing a 2-on-1. Going for K.O.'s is also more exciting because it forces you to fight even at low health instead of running away.
I feel like Velma and Reindog would be a nice team. Velma’s good at ranged attacks and zoning and has high mobility, and Reindog places traps everywhere and can help Velma with air recovery Velma could spam her ranged attacks from a guarded zone with the traps and have an extra layer of security
It’s funny to see Arya Stark in here interacting with all these G rated cartoon characters. She once baked a man’s sons into a pie and made him eat it lol
I mean...batman, harley, superman and wonder woman isn't exactly g rated character either if we include all their iteration but I know what you mean, lol
If I had a nickel for every time someone made thier enemies loved ones into Food to be devoured by thier enemy I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Glad you've been having a lot of fun Max! It's pretty much everything you'd want in a F2P Fighting Game in terms of how things are setup. Curious on how the beta in July will be like because I'm loving the Alpha so far
I’d like see them add characters down the line if this game keeps up being entertaining. Yosemite Sam, Daffy, maybe Samurai Jack, or even The Animaniacs would be super cool!
Idk if anyone has said this yet, but I kinda want more music for the soundtrack of this game, I liked the wide selection of tracks you could choose to play in the background in smash so I think it would be nice to have atleast 5 tracks for every stage
Damn, can't wait for the open beta in July. Wonder what the competitive scene is gonna look like. Hopefully it doesn't get axed from tournaments if it makes it that far lol
