Director Takeshi Inoue presents the Akashi Municipal Planetarium in a talk with TBIH's Russell Briggs. In 2023 it won the Japanese Association of Museums Award.
Akashi Municipal Planetarium is built on the 135°east longitude (Japan Standard Time Meridian) as "Time and Space Museum" in 1960. It is the oldest working planetarium in Asia, an astronomical observatory, with exhibition rooms with exhibits related to astronomy and time such as meteorites and clocks. In 1995, it suffered catastrophic damage in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and it took 3 years to renovate it. The museum is also a symbol of reconstruction. In addition to regular educational activities, the museum holds many unique events, which have received great feedback from the public.
