Ready to pull the trigger on one of these, still trying to decide between the play acoustic and play electric. Noticed people are saying the electric has a nice acoustic preset in there. I also play electric guitar too. Decisions decisions.......Hope all is well.
It would be useful if you could go thru the Bodyrez Shelf EQ, Parametric EQ and Compressor adjustments in this pedal. A bit daunting and confusing of a process for many . Cheers !
Hi man, great review!! I have a question because I'm a bit confused: you just (or almost a year ago) showed that you can store both vocal and guitar setup into presets and cycle through them BUT when I read the manual it actually states that guitar effects are global hence you only have one particular guitar sound that won't change through presets. Which one is correct? Maybe it changed on some firmware update or it's just a matter of configuration? Thanks for your time and hard work!!
thanks man, I been trying to figure if the guitar delay was usable on loop for leads and you answered it. Most vids are pre-update. Looked at your floor rig. your input to the units guitar/voc is strange looking i assume its something u made. 1 question.... if I wanted to throw a single dirt pedal on the floor for occasional lead I assume i can go from guitar to distortion to the TC and when dist is off it would not affect the harmonizers ability to do its work? Thanks for doin the video.... D.
Thanks for watching. I’ve got a chorus and an overdrive pedal in front of the guitar input. The vocal effects are all unaffected by whatever you throw in the guitar input. The digitech switch is actually in the switch jack. You can program a switch pedal to control various functions of the tc. Hope that helps.
I have TC Helicon Play Acoustic for a year or more. It was a great device! Just recently, the unit acts strange. It turn on OK, but suddenly it just HANG/ FREEZE. Display is ON, stuck with all buttons and knobs not working. Also it can not detect input sound, no output either. I have tried to RESET, and also updated the unit with latest firmware via VoiceSupport. The problem still happens after a couple of minutes ON. Any suggestions? Please help!!!
So did the firmware update fix the volume of the loop playback? I only just got my unit and have found that the loop Rhythym backing is too loud to solo over. Would be nice to control that.
if you have the camera adapter for ios you can plug the tc helicon into your phone from the usb port and record directly on to video just hit the red record button and talk and all incoming sounds will come from the tc helicon.
Can you tell me about the rest of your board and why you use the other pedals? Also the routing. Are you going through the Aux In into the Play Acoustic?
Hey Brian. At this point I’m strictly using the Play Acoustic for the vocal effects. The rest of the rig is dedicated to electric guitar. The signal path is shure wireless to tune to noise gate. From the the send/return path on the noise gate, it’s compressor, volume, wah, boost, tube screamer, tube screamer, Ehx crayon, chorus, phaser and back to noise gate. The delay and reverb are running straight through the gate so they are unaffected by it. It’s basically like using the effects loop on your amp but I’m accomplishing the same thing on my board. Hope that helps.
For the board in this video all of the pedals are going straight through to the input of the Play acoustic. The switch is patched into the pedal jack on the unit.
Hey OTR, does the Digitech FS3x pedal just plug straight in and what can you set it up to do. Agreed the SW-3 is big and pricey too so this looks a great alternative. I have a Boss FS6 so might see if that works too. Guess is may as it's only a switch and a TRS 1/4" jack. Nice review btw, I have the TCHPA and think it is awesome for a solo singer player.
Hey Paul. There’s a dedicated jack for the foot switch. The parameters you can control with it are pretty vast. I would think that the boss switch would work just fine with this but don’t quote me on it.
Cheers, going to try it later so will let you know if it does. The FS6 can be set latching or momentary and has 2 "modes" so it should do something I think ;-).
Boss pedal works ok'ish but in momentary mode it toggles (unless it's set to momentary harmony target) and the lights don't work. Plus you can only switch 2 parameters. Worth using it though as it frees up the looper.
Please help somebody please help me. I hit a button that say showcase, it appears in the window number 1 High Harmony. This seems to stop the full range of the programs i can only go to 1, 5, 10, 13, 49 that all. How can I get rid of that showcase and get back to all of the programs? 10-19-22
great sounding little box but a bit limited making me consider getting the big VoiceLive 3 Extreme: - NO dedicated EQ for the microphone, this is my biggest issue with it - You can't turn on/off the harmony voices while looping unless you have the Swtich-3 AND program one of the buttons on the Switch 3 to do this - You can't see in the display if you have a loop recorded, this really annoys me!
It is odd that it has guitar EQ but no real vocal EQ right? But you can access harmony while looping - just push the "hit" button. It exits loop mode, but keeps playing. Push the two left buttons to resume control of looping. The Switch 3 adds a lot of options though - dedicated loop control with an undo switch, or a boost switch, etc. I'm going to build a clone for $20.
Hey man, really enjoyed this video, dont listen to the haters! I just wondered if you can fully control the attributes of delay for vocals as i currently have a pedal which doesn't seem to allow me to change the speed of the delay which seems crazy i know! i use a range of delays and reverbs on the vocals too going from subtle tails to quite intense shoegaze delays and i usually have these moments both within one song so was wondering whether you think it is possible to set this up to switch between two delay settings in short proximity? i guess that might be achieved with 2 separate presets... peace brother
Thanks! You can adjust the tempo in the delay setting which overrides whatever the global parameter is set to. I think there’s a way to use tap tempo as well if you have an external switch. Digitech makes one that works just fine and is smaller and cheaper than tc’s 3-switch. For what it’s worth. I don’t pay any attention to negative comments. Some folks just need to tear others down to feel good about themselves. I just choose to spend my time being positive and productive. :-)
@@ontherecord4253 Thanks for getting back to me dude! I've just receieved my tc helicon voicelive 2, I'm looking forward to diving into what this baby can do! peace x
Hey I am thinking of buying this, but not sure I should get the Boss ve 500 instead. Anyway, how did you connect your pedals to the vocal effects pedal? I noticed it doesnt have a thru jack? Did thread your pedals from the guitar side or the XLR out - to pedal- to amp? Thanks
Couldn't hear any effects...harmonies, verb...etc...I noticed that you are wearing headphones which give you stereo. ...be sure when you run to your pa that you have the output set correctly.
Wonderful what we hear after you says:" now I'm going to play the same song with harmonies" ....... 24 minutes without to hear one only harmony. Grat job and review ;)
hello, thank you for the review. how did you connect other pedals to the play acoustic? are they running to or from the play acoustic? I have a shimmer pedal that I want to connect to my play acoustic. when I run my guitar to the play acoustic > neunaber shimmer, > the mixing board, the sound is cut to a point where you almost can't hear anything. how do I resolve this? thank you
@@ontherecord4253 I am trying to use a shimmer pedal and reverb. I wish to shimmer the already polished sound from the play acoustic instead of feeding the shimmer into it.
At the time I was using a Yamaha silent guitar which was versatile enough to get an electric sound out of. It just gave me some more tonal options when my band does duo gigs.
sorry mate but you say it's easy and quick to use b have to listen to over 6 mins of your talking voice. Wow iv'e turned it off. Why do all these youtuberes talk and talk- Just do a Demo I'm off
+Alan Coleman sorry bro. It was meant as a review and not a demo. Just wanted to explain how it works. If you want to see some videos of just some sound bites let me know.
I disagree with the respectfull hater lol. It was not drawn out but thorough imho. And dude who cares if theres a lil reverb while your speaking. Im immune to reverb anyway growing up in 80s where you added reverb to the reverb on everything. 😋 Thanks for taking the time to share your experience bro. I hope all of these overly critical whiners on youtube break their hi e string during their next facebook live living room performances for 20 people! Jk ..... Its prob 10 people. Lmao
