Eugene Onegin, Op. 24, is an opera ("lyrical scenes") in 3 acts (7 scenes), composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto, organised by the composer himself, very closely follows certain passages in Alexander Pushkin's 1825-1832 novel in verse, retaining much of his poetry.

i always liked this song. however, once I actually saw eugene onegin, it became absolutely chilling: the orchestra plays this music just after onegin has shot his best friend to death in a jealousy-fueled duel. suddenly this beautiful dance plays in contrast to the moral decay of the hero, and it's absolutely stunning.

You don't understand. A lot of countries actually modify some of the names of known people so that it sounds and is pronounced in their native language better. Polish version is also different from the original one and noone consider it being wrong. So Chaikovskij, Tchaikovsky, Čajkovský or Czajkowski are all right names.

The reason there is so much leeway and confusion with Russian names is that the Russian language does not actually use the Latin alphabet as English does. Russian is written in the Cyrillic alphabet, therefore translated names are spelled many different ways. And yes, Tchaikovsky was famously gay, and troubled & tormented in mind and spirit, as so many great artists are. He committed suicide by drinking water contaminated with typhoid, if I remember correctly. Such as sad and romantic life he lived!

I think, that in order to write so gorgeous and majestic a polonaise as this, Tchaikovsky must have been very familiar with Chopin, the greatest master of the polonaise.

@user-kn4zz9yq9n
@user-kn4zz9yq9n Год назад
@stvk99
@stvk99 Год назад
