Got a 1984 El Camino with a 67 Corvette 327 with a L79 cam. Have a th350 in it now and have to put another torque converter in. Going with a 2800 to 3200 stall because of the rain in Florida. I want to see how it acts so when I put the 700 with the monster transmission kit in I'll know what stall to get. 2200 and I was stuck on the lines at the lights in the rain. Horns blow and I warm up the tires and line to move lol
So Ive been a stick shift guy my whole life and I thought stick had the advantage over the auto being faster by being able to rev and dump the clutch to launch but now im learning about high performance autos with these high stall converters to achive the same effect of dumping the clutch. very interesting! whats boggling my mind is that now by having a high stall converter you pretty much [in stick in terminology] have a slipping clutch that does not engage until 3k and then when it does IT LAUNCHES EVERY TIME . . . that most deffintley hurt mpg i would think since the enginel is never actually connect to the drive until lock up. . . So the question why not just drive a stick, LOL. . .
You can't miss a shift when it's automatically shifting for you lol that's why old school guys prefer them. It really depends on personal preference and the majority of the purpose of your build. In my opinion manuals will always be more fun to rip around the streets but you can't argue with consistency
Korie Creson Yup. Chevy makes sure to put the extra most gooder bulbs in them so that they never ever burn out. It is very rare to see a Chevy pickup with no check engine light.
I have a question. It might be dumb but when I bought my 1980 camaro the guy had a b&m megashifter in it and he said I have to manually shift through the 1st and 2nd gear and only use drive when your like on the highway. Can I use just drive whenever I’m just cruising. It’s also a Turbo 350 with a 350 small block. It’s a 3500 torque converter
DO NOT USE TCI. I can not get them to answer a phone call, return a voice message, respond to an email or even a Facebook message for warranty issue. Had to pay for it out of pocket. Now the transmission has 3 neutrals, and I pulling it out to replace with something that has 100% no TCI parts in it at all. I recommend everyone else does the same. No customer service at all.
So does it just drive normal but doesnt fully transfer all the power till 3k rpm? Im new to the autos just trying to get my head around it as may look into getting one for my 455 olds motor
A stall torque converter basically raises the rpm where the transmission starts moving the car. So your more in the power band of the engine whe the car starts moving
@@tonyzhuravlev3017 engine wear is much greater during start up because of low oil pressure. Also cold oil doesn't lubricate nearly as well as oil at operating temp.
dry509 it's a 95 gmc sonoma. it's was originally a 2.2 4 cylinder. it's now a 350 4 bolt main block. bored.030 with a full eagle rotating assembly. it's got a comp cam heard are ported and have arp studs. the trans is about wore out. it's a 350 turbo with a 3000 stall tci converter. it's also got a big Hayes cooler on it.
Aaron Radd i am putting a stall converter on my 440 76 persute class 5 engine turning it to a race car engine what one do you think I need for it? 585 cam lift 1200 HP 985 lb of tork first time building a engine so if you have any pointers about stall converters I'm all ears
Penny Allred I honestly have no clue. If you call TCI or whatever brand name your buying. You can tell them your engine setup and they will recommend a converter
