I was an usherette at the Egyptian and the Chinese theaters in the early 1950’s. Loved both of the theaters and the behind the scene environments. I’m 87 now and enjoy seeing this video.

I'm pleased they have carried out this renovation without removing or altering the bulk of the original structure meaning most of the theater is still as it was almost 100 years ago and still retains its original character.

I have never been to the Chinese Theater in the 27 years I have walked the earth. But it’s any movie buffs dream to see a blockbuster there. My uncle went with my Aunt to the Star Wars opening in 1977. He went in without knowing what they were about to see.

This theater now looks grand in the way it was in its glory days. The IMAX conversion was really worth it, making the movie experience very exciting and i can't wait until my next trip to Hollywood to see whatever their showing on that big screen in IMAX with Laser.

This is where they premiered my #1 favorite film, Dream a Little Dream! March 1, 1989!

It's very fitting that the Chinese Theatre is owned by TCL as they make really good-quality TV's so, it translates well to the silver screen where the best movies show up to premiere and since this is the CHINESE theatre, why not have it owned by a company from China!

Such a shame they removed the original flooring, seating and the original stage where Jean Harlow had her first handprint ceremony and where Singing In The Rain was filmed. The theatre is still beautiful but certainly Didn't need the new screen or seating ...

Thank God the historic regulations controlled TCL or they would have done some major damage to this historic theater....they would have played with the walls and the ceiling....

I grew up here while my father was running film as a projectionist, he started working there when the first star wars movie in 70 mm film hit the original big screen, he retired 15 yrs later, I use to run around the twins and the big house 1982 - 2007 before Mann went down and closed their doors and your company decided to destroy a piece of my life? thank you for using digital to kill my heart for film, I'm a projectionist, 3rd generation, I also still run film and 70 mm right down the street, and I hope like Mann you disappear like you were never there.

One big mistake in the documentary, the Wizard of Oz didn't premiere at the Chinese. It was at the Strand in Wisconsin.

Yes, The Wizard Of Oz Premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on August 12th, 1939. After that it was released to all other cinemas in the United States which must include the Strand in Wisconsin.

The Chinese theater needs a new refurbishment. The seats and floors are in terrible shape.

In reality is an UGLY Theater what makes it interesting is the old Hollywood history behind it otherwise the theater would've been demolished a long time ago. There are other Old Theaters in L.A that are nicer like The Mayan Theater and The Belasco in Downtown Los Angeles.

Just a low grade LIEMAX If it not 35mm Dolby Stereo / 70mm Dolby Stereo with THX sound system and THX baffle wall its not cinema. It LIEMAX now and LIEMAX SUCKS! RIP Chinese THX cinema another doomed cinema that has been brutalized by LIEMAX
@andysummersthxcinemaandmyc7748
Jose Saucedo imax liemax is crap bass crap sound! THX kicks sand and dirt in liemax face!

Actually, it is not necessarily a “liemax” theater. It is an IMAX Laser theater, and it’s actually a little bit wider than an average 15/70mm IMAX, but isn’t as tall. Also, having been to both a 15/70mm theater and an IMAX Laser theater, the sound on the Laser theaters is so much better. Now, no digital theater can match the look of true film, but an IMAX Laser theater is about as close as you’re gonna get.

@@richesmovietrailers953 Plus I think it's the only 1.90:1 IMAX screen with dual 4K laser projection system, compared to conventional 1.90:1 IMAX laser screens that use single 4K laser projection system. Every IMAX laser theater has 12-channel sound system, while IMAX xenon digital and IMAX 70mm have 6-channel sound system. TCL also has the largest seating capacity for an IMAX theater, around 932 seats. And technically, TCL Chinese showed IMAX 70mm before with "Interstellar," in which IMAX 70mm projector was brought for that movie. In 1.43:1 ratio with side masking. (This doesn't mean 1.43:1 laser ratio movies like "Dunkirk" were shown like this at TCL, but they were shown in 1.90:1.)
