From the TCM Classic Film Fest in Hollywood, actress Ann Blyth opens up to THR's Scott Feinberg about her earlier career in radio and starring in feature films.
She's one of the few who has aged very well. She still has that beautiful young smile. She's had a great career, but I'm sure she's most proud of her five children. That's her greatest joy.
It is impossible to say anything negative about Ann Blyth. She is so beautiful, elegant and charming in a very natural way! Such a pity (for us) she quit the movies so early in her career. Very few true stars from the Golden Age of cinema still remain with us: Danielle Darrieux, Michèle Morgan, Maureen O'Hara, Micheline Presle, Lauren Bacall, Angela Lansbury, Irene Papas, Emmanuelle Riva, Gina Lollobrigida and Jeanne Moreau. Ann Blyth belongs in this sublime group. Pure class!
Some of these great artists are dead now Lauren Bacall (1924-2014) Maureen O Hara(1920-2015)Michelle Morgan (1920-2016) Danielle Darrieux(1917-2017).Rhonda Fleming(1923-2020). Emmanuelle Riva(1927-2017) Jeanne Moreau(1928-2017) Happily there are still alive Dame Angela Lansbury (1925) Ann Blyth (1928)Jane Powell(1929) Glynnis Johns (1923) Arlene Dahl(1928) Gina Lollobrigida(1927) Micheline Presle(1923) Eve Marie Saint(1924) Shirley Jones Julie Andrews Sophia Loren and others were born after 1930
I never liked Ann and it was because of Mildred Pierce. I saw some old black & white photos of her and this beautiful music playing in the background and I fell in love with her. Beautiful, graceful lady.
I have watched Mildred Pierce so many times and identified Anne Blyth always with the role of Veda in which she was so excellent as the awful selfish daughter. It is great to see this interview and realise that there is so much more to her career. I will now enjoy catching up on these other movies, so thank you for posting. It is fantastic to see how natural and charming she is in this interview and looking beautiful even with so many years having passed. Very inspiring!
A gracious, classy lady born in '28--looking naturally pretty without much or any plastic surgeries like her contemporaries who are still alive-at least 80. Now she is 85 last Aug. 2013 and is still able to sing well-not long ago on an interview i was surprised how well she sang in soprano, so smoothly for a woman of her age. Ann is true class.
I love to hate her in Mildred Pierce - she owned that role. It's such a treat to see her as the kind, charming woman she actually is in real life and to hear her anecdotes. :)
Still beautiful and graceful. Its so nice to see that the thief (time) was not able to rob her of her outstanding beauty. At 85 she is still a beautiful woman.
Ann Blyth! Oh my goooosh!!! How wonderful is this?! Such a huge fan of the old Black and Whites! She is still gorgeous! I always thought she had such a beautiful voice and was so uniquely stunning! Thanks for posting!
Miss Blyth is 86 now and she still looks gorgeous and youthful, she played a role in Twilight Zone where she never aged, how truthful this has come to be because she hasn't!!!!!!!
Utterly charming! Intelligent, sweet, sensitive, generous - quite unlike Veda Pierce. I have a new respect for her now. Sorry she left the movies so young.
When she left movies they weren't really making the great movies that they had in her prime. But she did some good TV work you should check out. A couple good Quincy M.E.'s and a superb Murder She Wrote where she plays a woman who thinks she's losing her mind only to find out that her near and dear are trying to send her off the edge.
I'm so dumbfounded that there are so few visits, and/or comments on this beautiful piece featuring incredible Ann Blyth! Can't guarantee too many, but I suspect there'll be many more visits soon! I adore her!
So cute @1350 when asked if standing on an apple crate took away from the appeal of kissing famous leading men of the era, her response, "oh, not at all... (her eyes widen) not at aaallllllll." So sweet!
Fom Argentina: I LOVE Ann Blyth !!!!- One of my "top ten" is "Mildred Pierce": a tour de force role for young Ann: she steals the film & much deserved an Oscar- Sadly she loose the Award, but she is still with us, so : "Hey Ann !! : You ARE the winner !!!!! "-
I love her very much...... Classic Lady .. Very charming ...... those were the days of the beauty ............. look for our days in 2014............. there is no beauty never ... girls girls girls!!!!!!! Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mammamiaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Like the Queen of the Nile she played on "The Twilight Zone," Ann Blyth is timeless. But for me, she will always be the pretty little mermaid in, "Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid." If you haven't seen this classic, do yourself a huge favor and watch it. You'll fall in love like I did.
Monroe might be the hot blonde of Hollywood Fifties Cinema, but Blyth has always been my favourite brunette volcano. So beautiful, fabulous eyes, those pouty ruby red lips and a great singing voice. Her performance in "Mildred Pierce" has influenced my attitude to red-lipped femme fatales ever since ! Miss Blyth could convey sweetness - and sensuality - with just a flair of those eyes and lips. Long may she live !
After watching her all-time classic melodrama movie "Mildred Pierce" I immediately learned she was the only surviving cast up to this day of March 25,2019 at 90 years of age! She's still beautifully gorgeous and amazing talent and woman she is! When Veda slapped her mom after she tore up the $10,000 check to her name, that was the turning point of Miss Ann as her incredibly sinister act in the movies. So sad she quit showbusiness too early. More power and long live Ms. Ann Blyth. God bless you!
What a beautiful lady. I just saw an episode of Wagon Train where she sang a song called “Tomorrow”, it was like an angel singing. It was so captivating.
Isn’t that a wonderful episode?! The Jenny Tannen Story. She was mesmerizing in that episode! And, it’s obvious how much Ward Bond respected and liked her. It was wonderful hearing her sing so much in the episode!
One of the great supporting actor performances in movie history was Blyth's Veda in "Mildred Pierce." The highlight was when she slapped that haymaker on Joan Crawford, a woman Blyth really liked. You could see the tears welling up in her eyes in that closeup. She hated to do that.
But I read it was that slap that almost won her an Oscar. I've not seen this classic movie but I'm pretty sure her welling tears were expressing the conflict the character she plays in the movie felt inside. It's called great acting
What a beautiful woman, I saw her yesterday on Wagon Train for the very first time in my life, and instantly fell in love with her! I've been watching and learning of her on you tube, just can't get over such beauty, and matching personality. I am going to look up more of her movies. I saw an interview of her at 85 yrs of age, still a beautiful woman!! God Bless this beautiful woman.
They were in separate categories, so you don't have to begrudge Joan her deserving win. The other nominees for Supporting Actress were: Eva Arden in MILDRED PIERCE, Angela Lansbury in THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, Joan Lorring in THE CORN IS GREEN, and winner Ann Revere in NATIONAL VELVET.
I met Ann blyth in Dublin with her cousin Thereasa Lynch, in the 50s , I remember sitting on her lap , what a wonderful lady, and such talent ,we all loved her……..
I seen Ann Blyth mr. Peabody and the mermaid I'm not sure how old I was I was just a kid but I fell in love with her my sister tease me about it I was so much in love I'm watching her today I'm still in love and now I'm 79 years old she was my first love
She turned 90 last week! Would love to meet her. My sister did Kismet as a school musical in the 1970s. She played the lead female role, so she practised Stranger in Paradise at home. Still one of my favourite songs - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P0c3od7KynE.html Just read that Vic Damone had mafia connections! - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vic_Damone#Mobster_connections Both born 1928, Year of the Dragon, very significant (to me!). Ann Blyth is Leo (her birthday two days after mine), Vic Damone is Gemini (his birthday 2 days before Donald Trump's). Vic Damone passed away in February this year. Mmmmm.
OMG! Ann Blyth, one of the great ones! All the great female movie actors of Hollywood's golden age, all had their own distinct and unique personality; except for her role in Mildred Pierce as a selfish girl, on screen AB projected a sweet, gentle and sensitive nature, part of which was her voice
Interesting that Miss Blyth played the role of Regina Hubbard in "Another Part of the Forest", one of the great Davis roles (The Little Foxes). The "Another Part of the Forest" was the prequel to "The Little Foxes", though it wasn't written until after. Blyth was outstanding in the film, and was surrounded by Frederick March, Florence Eldridge, and Edmund O'Brien. The young Regina, as played by Blyth, was just as manipulative and bitchy as she was when played by Bette Davis.
quando assisti Ill Never Forget You me apaixonei por vc e Ty Power . tinha eu 16 anos . hoje com 57 continuo ainda apaixonado . jamais esquecerei . gostaria de conhece-la, Ann !
After just discovering Mildred Pierce on M! I fell head over heels 4 Ann Blythe. I didn't realize she was in hostess food TV commercials. I love u A.B.🎉
It was not mentioned that her own voice was not used in "The Helen Morgan Story." Why I don't know since she has such a beautiful voice. Gogi Grant's voice was dubbed into the movie.
