Cool that they recreated part of the Babylon set in the mall. FUN FACT....There is supposedly an entire huge movie set buried in the dunes of northern Santa Barbara from Cecil B. Demille's movie Ten Commandments from 1923. They have excavated part of it.

Yeah those are at the Oceano Dunes between Vandenberg and Pismo beach. When I lived in Santa Maria I used to visit that area often, quite remote and beautiful. Huell even did a show from there focusing mainly on the old TC film. Great movie history.

One thing I definitely love about old movies is they always kept you guessing how they did it. It was like a magic trick. And sometimes they actually had no choice but to build a HUGE set like that! Now it's all just CGI, so a lot of the magic is gone.

I have been to L.A. Once, and I took a picture of that area. I was actually looking for a good picture of the Hollywood sign while riding around. I saw that area thought it was cool so I took a picture. Later on after getting back home I was downloading the pictures on my computer when I realized that I did get the Hollywood sign in with it. Now I know a little about the history on that now. Thanks Adam

The great thing about following on with your adventures, learning such cool things!!! Thank you for sharing this bit of Hollywood history!

Hi from Weymouth, UK. Great vid! I walked through there on my last visit to the US and i thought it reminded me of something! In one of your scenes you showed a movie house showing 'Dunkirk'.... Many of the locations for the movie were shot right here in Weymouth, Dorset, UK!! I am a loyal subscriber and have been for a long time... Great adventures and keep on keeping on... You are doing a great job recording vanishing history...Cheers...

I use to live just 10 minutes walking distance away from the Vista Theater. it's the place I got to see all the big 90s Blockbusters with my dad haha There is so much Hollywood movie history in just that small neighborhood on Virgil and Vermont. Lots of those homes were built during the golden era of Hollywood and my dad being such a movie buff told me about the sets built in that location. I was quite disappointed when Disney removed the D.W Griffith elephants from the entrance of the Hollywood Backlot in Dca. Great vlog my friend, it brings back a lot of memories. 😊

everytime you walk in that theater/mall area i get flashbacks from when we worked as caterers for things like the academy awards years ago back when it was Kodak Theater. It was both interesting and interesting at times but it paid the bills. Later on I worked on some projects like setting up the light cycle for display at the Tron Legacy premiere at the El Capitan Theater. I remember that night very well because I had to run back and forth from the Disney Theater across the red carpet up to the top floor of that mall area with the elephants are where the Tron after party was being held to check on some Nokia phone displays make any adjustments then run back down to the theater to wipe off any greasy fingerprints on the light cycle and displays down there, well this went on all night. The guests looked like they enjoyed the night but I couldn't wait to go home and crash for the rest of the week. Another sweet video =)

Intolerance was made as a sort of mea culpable after Griffith ' s film The Birth of a Nation received a lot of negative feedback due to its depiction of slaves and slavery. Griffith ' s Intolerance illustrated in four separate stories, each tinted a different color, man's treatment of man over the centuries. An interesting concept but, as you said, it failed to find an audience.
@jraoul711
@jraoul711 7 лет назад
Kathy Fraley D.W. was very innovative for his time and talented, but Birth of a Nation is controversial and yet is one of the most successful pictures of all time. Of course he lost all of his money in this next picture and was never able to recover.
