I'm playing around with tea bags lately and seeing what I can create that will work with my nature journals. These little scrolls are easy to make and would be great accents on your junk journal project or even tucked into a gift. More fun with tea bags here: • Tea Bags & Leaves Part 1
What do YOU like to do with a tea bag when it comes to making art?
I appreciate all the positive feedback I have received about my creative conversations while you craft with me. Please let me know if there are topics you would like me to address in future creative conversations.

Love the scrolls. One could use it as a yearly,(monthly ,whatever) affirmation and hanging it on a daily journal it’s always there for one to focus on.

Cool stuff. I don’t think my problem is perfectionism. I sort of embrace not being perfect. I always had a problem with being told i had done something wrong when I didn’t know it was wrong. I hated failure or being told I wasn’t good enough (that’s what doing something wrong meant to me, that I was bad or a failure). I’m also struggle with crafting ADD. Ha! So I have a dilemma. I make something that sells well. However, it’s boring for me to make them over and over, but, it’s the one thing that brings in regular money. I want to do other things, but they aren’t making as much money....

@@SusanTaylorBrown oh that sounds awful! What a degrading way to be rejected. I guess if it was constructive it would be one thing but seriously, not everyone is thick skinned. I’m sorry you had to deal with that.

Is your birth sign a Virgo? Virgos tend to be a perfectionists. I'm one of them. I've learned to let go of things. Like you, when I was younger, I used to kick myself for mistakes that only me knew. Bottom line is acceptance of who you are and like yourself in whatever you do. In this case creative art. There's no right or wrong in art. It's an expression of one's self and we all work differently from each other. It's what makes us individually unique. BTW, I love nature, though what I create is more vintage shabby with a touch of grunge. My next project is a Botanical Journal. I stumbled onto your video, I think I'll borrow your idea and incorporate your tea bag scroll. It's unique and so very cute! I'll make sure to give you the credit for the inspiration. Thank you for sharing and for the nice conversation. GOD Bless

I’m a little bit older than most (probably) but it took awhile, but now I do art for myself expression only. No right or wrong, just being me.Worrying about what others think really, REALLY does NOT matter, ALWAYS be true to yourself. 😊

My latest experiment last weekend was with coloring papers with blueberries. Results are great and my fingers still blue too! We are strong together, I never thought of making videos in english (not perfect, who cares) but found so much love and support from this crafters community that I learned to love what ever I create. Bye the way Susan, my next project is done, will make the video tomorrow. Enjoyed your video and thoughts a lot, thank you.

New sub here, enjoying your videos. Your class story really resonated with me. Sometimes your spin on things is different than others, we all might see the assignment in a different way. I went back to school when I was 42 for a science degree leading to a career in the medical field. I took lots of English and writing classes for my extras because I like them. The teacher of a class had us write an essay about a poem by Walt Whitman. I kept reading that darn poem and I liked it less every time. He seemed so conceited and pompous to me. Finally I gave up and sat down and wrote a parody of the poem and turned it in. Screw it, I'll do better next time. When I got to class the next day the teacher called out my name. Oh no, this can't be good. Then she told the class about my poem and how much she enjoyed it and how she called her father and read it to him and then came to school and read it to her colleagues. Then she asked me to stand up and read it to the class and I was so freaking embarrassed. On the paper she had written, this really needs to be published. Lesson learned: just be you, no one else can.

Wow Susan, Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent. I can see these little scrolls being hidden in places that someone will find them and be inspired by the message in them. How would waxing or oiling them help keep them from breaking down if left in the weather. You know like the painted stones that people leave for someone to find? Just a thought. Blessings creative sister

I love these and all of your art. To be honest there are a lot of things you make that I never asked about. Yet, I want them or love them for one reason or another. I took a break from making journals and did some pour painting. I am now going to teach my co-workers about pour painting next month. While I am no expert in the pour painting. I think it will be a fun and bonding time. There might be mistakes then, but I choose to see them as happy accents... Who knows maybe they will teach me... I say do you, but I am always up for nature things walks in your garden or art from your garden or something in between is good for me. :-) Hugs!!

Vicky there are some very good tasing herbal 'teas'. My favorite is Hot Cinnamon by Harney and Sons. There isn't tea leaves just Cinnamon. I also love Lemon. There are several good ones Stash tea, Bigelow makes a couple one with vitamin C. I drink fresh squeezed lemon daily, having the tea is nice. Other flavors Carmel, peppermint (Great for upset stomach). I am sure you know all of this, but just incase someone reading doesn't I wanted to share. I have a friend that had told me she thought tea was discussing. This was while I was visiting her and she made me a cup of tea. Her mug held more than 16oz. I asked if that is how she always made tea. Yep, too much water for the tea. She is now hooked. Ha ha. God bless

I've been saving my teabags and I'm so happy you made this video. The only thing is.....my teabags aren't stained like yours. I'll need to coffee dye by teabags to get that look. lol. ( I drink red raspberry leaf tea from Traditional Medicinals and the darkening doesn't happen)

What a fabulous idea. These little scrolls are just gorgeous. As a Christian, I would put Bible verses on them. I think it would be fun to make a big jar full of them and leave it out and encourage people just to take one. I would leave it up to the Lord to decide who got which quote! I love how they look - they remind me of the Dead Sea Scrolls which have revealed so much truth about God to the world. I am on a roll at the moment with teabags! There is a process which I think I have invented (I have never seen anyone else do this, but I may be wrong) - When you have had your tea, squeeze out the excess tea from the bag, not too much, but enough to stop it dripping, and then lay it on watercolour paper to dry. If you lay them flat, they come out more or less square, with some wrinkles, but if you scrunch them up a bit and press them down onto the paper, the point of contact is more circular and more irregular. Leave them to dry completely before moving them. When you take them off, they will have left stains in the most gorgeous shapes, and you can use these to doodle on, following the shapes and the creases as a starting point. They can then be cut out and used as embellishments in journals, on cards, tags, etc etc. I am in the process of making a series of mini-journals featuring teabags, and have covered the first two with sheets of teabags glued together along their edges, with grungey stencilling on them using Frayed Burlap distress ink. I padded the cover first, before adding the teabag cover, so that they feel soft - really tactile! I am making a variety of closures for the books, using ribbon or buff coloured twine, with added beads. I am now thinking of making paper beads out of teabags, rolling them from corner to corner (I have mostly square ones, not the long ones like you are using). I thought of layering them first with some coloured paper or gold, so that this shows as you roll the teabag. I think these would be cool embellishments for the little books. I can’t wait to try making your scrolls! They are absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing the process.
