I don't usually hand out compliments ~ but this is easily one of the most useful, straight forward and enjoyable repair videos. Thanks for NOT making me suffer though a painful loud obnoxious introduction with hideous heavy metal music.
Wow, I should have watched this a long time ago! My X1000RBL had just been sitting with my stereo equipment for years, only for lack of a belt. After watching your video, I was inspired and ordered a belt and installed it fairly easily. I bought mine while in the Air Force stationed in Germany, and this brings back some good memories, Thanks!
I would like to thank you for this video! I have the service manual but my belt is like goo also and I was not sure how to route it, so as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words Thanks again!!!
Thanks for the video. I thought it would be more complicated, but your video helped ease my concerns. The biggest problem (mine is an X-1000, but the process was similar) was the "ribbon of tar" that was once a belt. It took a lot of industrial strength isopropyl alcohol to clean up the mechanism, but it's all back together and working fine.
Thank you for the video but you should have cleaned the flywheels with some isopropyl alcohol prior to putting the new belt on. The old belt was visibly sticking as the result of it partially being melted and this left residue which should have been clean out.
May I know the correct/original TEAC X-1000R capstan belt width and thickness? Just checked my old and stretched TEAC capstan belt which is about 4.5mm wide and 0.4mm thick. However, all X-1000R capstan belts visible in RU-vid videos seem to be much wider in dimension. I need to order the correct size. Thanks!
The RBL says it has 6 heads and 3 servo motors. Maybe a motor or servo driver?? It has been my main deck or an older 3344A (I think) 4 track with belts, and I have the DBX box, mixer, and punch in and out foot control for the 4 track. The stereo mix down is awesome! As for removing rubber residue: I have had bad experiences taking those pulleys down to bare metal on things. One TT still drags badly! Anymore I leave some behind.
This was super helpful. I got the belt installed, but when I push play, either direction, the pinch rollers do not activate. I assume that each pinch roller has its own solenoid, so there must be an override that is erroneously activated that says "don't let the tap move" or something. Have you ever encountered this problem?
Try pushing BOTH up together with your thumbs. Sounds like VERY typical 'frozen' pivots. With both rollers UP, now move back down & repeat a few times. Now push all the way up and press play. Look behind (remove) head cover and you should be able to see the spring loaded pivots w/a strong flashlight. Spray a SMALL amount of penetrating liquid on these points then 'exercise the rollers again. Many yrs or non use results in factory lube becoming cement. Most X- series suffer from this - as do any mechanical device. Good luck !
Each flywheel goes to a capstan roller. If you're looking inside the back, as shown in this video, the left side flywheel is for the right side roller, and the right side flywheel is for the left side roller.
