So guys I did every single step she said and guess what it works , she listen every time I got a treat but when I’m in bed laying down with our anything to offer she sometimes chooses not to do it lol
Try hiding your treats then ask for the command. It’s very easy for dogs to be depend on you holding a treat. but you want to show them that even if they don’t see you have a treat, it doesn’t mean they will net get one. Do it randomly. Grab a treat when they are not looking. Hide it. Go lay down, wait a few minutes. Then call him over and ask for the command. You might have to get him really excited and go back a couple steps / get up and help him. But don’t show him the treat till he does it. Then poof! Treat! Repeat a couple times and he will just to do it even if you don’t have a treat. Be sure todo some type of reward everytime(play tug or toss a toy, or maybe just belly rubs! Or hidden treat again) good luck! Thanks for the update! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
I've gotten to the point where my dog knows the touch part on my hand and will do it correctly. But once I put my hand at the door and say touch, she looks at me like I'm stupid 😂
My lab did this successfully today, I simply tapped the door with my knuckles while giving the command entustiastically. Then eventually she decided to attack it with both paws :P
I m watching this just bc my dog knows how to open the door and get inside, I tryed to teach her not to come inside anymore but at this point I just gave up and I want her to also close the door bc the AC is running 🥵
Love your hoodie! Thank you for this video! My puppy has learned how to open my front door, which I don't mind, but I needed a way to teach him to close it afterward 🤣
Great demonstration, and i can't wait to try it! My dog is part chihuahua, though, and looks at me like 🥺 when i try to teach him new tricks, like he's in trouble, and he pees a little... idk what to do about it, but I'll try lol
This is a great video and I think will solve problems I've been having teaching this command; that is, my dog would grab and eat the cardboard target, which he doesn't do with painters tape. And starting with an indoor door makes it easier to get the door completely closed.
My dog decided that the only way to close the door is if he nibbles on the blue tape. The transition between using tape and not using tape is gonna be ruff (pun intended)🐶
I started teaching my dog to close a door...she touches the door which is a success but she won't push it yet...I'll give her a break bur I'm sure, she'll get it soon 😁☺
Thank you so much for this!!! I have a question though, my dog gets her paws up on the door for us to open it. Do you have commands for "opening doors" like bells?
My dog catches on very quickly and I have taught this to a couple different dogs so my dog learned in one session. I would say the average should get it in 3 sessions. But depends on the dog’s learning pace and the handlers timing skills in rewarding the dog at the right second so that the dog knows what you are asking for.
My dogs already know the hand touch, but act somewhat afraid of the door and don't want to touch it. One will touch the tape if I hold a treat over it and gets frustrated if I ask him to touch just the tape, but the other will not go near it and tries to leave the situation.
Do you have any tips for teaching my dog to close a sliding screen door? She picked up quickly the ‘touch’ command using the blue tape on my hand and then the sliding door. But I’m not sure how to get her to push it shut with her nose. She has no trouble opening it when she wants to go outside.
Im trying to teach this to our mini-pig. In 15 min i got him to understand the word door (with the help of the tape) but when i ask him to close the door he either looks at the door or touches it very softly without moving it. No further progress has been made. He clearly knows the word door and even walks towards it from a distance when i say door but i can't get him to touch the door hard enough to move it. Any hints are welcome!
So there’s a couple things you could do. If your dog is really targeting the post it invites it right off. Sometimes you can jump to just pointing out the door saying your command without the Post-it. They might look at you funny for a minute and then try it. And then just market reward for touching the door. If not I would suggest going to Lowe’s or Home Depot and grabbing some blue or green painters tape. Because the Post-it note sticks above the door some of the dogs like to grab it. But with painters tape it’s totally flushed the whole thing stuck to the door. And I can’t grab any of it. But because it’s painters tape you can easily remove it with no damage to the door.
