I'm 45 and going to Cambodia to teach for the first time. I'm leaving my adult children, my security job I've had for a decade, and all my friends behind. I'm nervous as all heck but also super excited. I've never been a teacher before. I love children!

@directajith I work with a TESOL placement company. I've done the program before COVID and received my TESOL but I would like a refresher so I'll do the program again in Thailand and then they will place me in Cambodia somewhere. I'm hoping Siem Reap as I want to be close to my Thai family in Buriram. I'm really scared and really nervous but also crazy excited for a new adventure. Are you still in Cambodia?

@@weatherornotheresmike9303 yea you can in Cambodia. 🇰🇭 - I also don’t have a degree. Just the TEFL from AVSE. I’m a grade 8 teacher here now. Informative video, thanks. How does teaching online part time, and not having a full-time teaching job with a school, affect your visa status when you have to renew it? It's my understanding that to maintain an ordinary visa you have to have an employer backing you, in other words, proof that you are gainfully employed. You have to renew your visa every year, correct?
@TomTripsOut
@TomTripsOut 2 месяца назад
Correct and correct. I work for a school here in Cambodia- a language center, that conducts classes online as well as in person. I choose to take online students. It does not matter how many hours your work as long as you work for a Cambodian company or school. When I renew I just get a letter of employment from my boss showing I am still employed by them

@@charlesobengacheampong771 yea in Cambodia they stopped the accommodation but lowered the price accordingly. They provide a list of recommended hotels of varied levels close by to the training. @@TomTripsOut Nice, I'm currently a college student trying to get my English education degree. I'll probably do a year of being an assistant teacher here in the US and then move to Cambodia. One question I've had for a while is will my pay be lower if I'm not white? I'm Asian American and I thought they might lower my pay if I don't look like a foreigner to them. Maybe I'm just overthinking it lmao
@TomTripsOut
@TomTripsOut 20 дней назад
@@theyveforgotten you’re not way off for thinking that. Image is important here and your nationality. But I think they REALLY focus on what passport you have, as opposed to your face. So if you are a US citizen and you sound like an American with zero Asian accent - you will be treated like a native English speaker. 👍

Thank you for a great video and valuable info. I am an English teacher in Bangkok thinking about relocating to Cambodia. My question is - if I arrive in Cambodia on a tourist visa (obtained at the airport) and hopefully find a school willing to employ me can my visa be converted to a work visa without the neccessity of leaving Cambodia?
@TomTripsOut
@TomTripsOut Месяц назад
@@mateuszbiskup8166 that is very important question. The answer is no you cannot turn a tourist visa into a working visa. The one you want is called “E-Type” Ordinary Visa. This can be extended into a working visa. -- also do not confuse it with electronic tourist evisa which also uses an “e”.
@mateuszbiskup8166
@mateuszbiskup8166 Месяц назад
@@TomTripsOut How can I obtain E-visa before being employed?
@TomTripsOut
@TomTripsOut Месяц назад
@@mateuszbiskup8166 the Evisa is not a working visa. It’s just a 30 day Ordinary visa. When you get a job you can apply to add on an extension. Then it becomes an EB Visa ( B for business)
