If you could choose any country in the world to teach in, where would you choose? Let us know down here in the comments! Feel free to ask further questions about teaching in Hong Kong too ☺ Katie & Ryan
Thank you! I really hope you are able to teach and travel at some point. It’s been such an incredible experience so far. Which other counties are on your travel list?
@@ForTeachersChannel I've always wanted to go to Hong Kong and most of south east Asia in general, but I would also like to travel to (and maybe teach) in North America
Hey, I am a Filipino language teacher who's looking for a teaching job there in HK. Been planning to pursue this for a year now. Can I please know your WhatsApp accounts, so I may freely reach you there and talk matters as regards my intent to be there also. Thank you. Thank you.
Do you know anything about teaching German in Hong Kong? My native tongue is Bulgarian, I grew up there up until I was 17 and moved to Austria. I'm 26 now, got my secondary education here and am doing a Bachelor's in Linguistics here in Austria as well. I'm not technically a native in German, infact I would say my English is very close to native but my German is not yet there. (Although it's very good and I will make sure to make it as perfect and close to native as I can before I finish my Bachelor's) The weird thing is I'm better at English and so much more comfortable teaching English but have never lived in an anglophone country and have no education from an anglophone country yet. I plan on getting a PGCE or PGDE from the UK after my Bachelor's, it will be in teaching German as a foreign language. Currently looking into the possibility of getting it for two subjects so I have more than "just a foreign language" under my belt. I also plan to get a CELTA at some point. Do I have better chances teaching English or German? Could I perhaps teach both? Is Hong Kong looking for IT teachers lol? I appreciate any and all insights from everyone, even just ideas on what keywords to google can make a big difference sometimes! Thank you in advance. 😊
Hi guys, Have you done or would you be able to do a teaching abroad vs teaching in the uk video? Is the workload better, teacher worklife balance, Are there TA’s etc.
Hi! Do you find it was necessary to have completed your NQT year here in the UK or would it have been a possibility to move abroad as soon as you became qualified? Also do you have any international job hunting tips for us? Had you been to Hong Kong prior to moving there? Personally I'd like to work in the UAE or somewhere like Malaysia!
Yes, spanish is taught in many of the international schools. For my school, it was available since secondary years, so grade 7 onwards, as a foreign language.

Hi! I know HK is expensive, but how much housing allowance did you get? How much are your monthly bills? I can speak some Cantonese (I’m half Chinese) so I’d love to work in HK! Also, do I have to complete my NQT year before going?
What are the likelihood of an applicant from a non-native English country with a TEFL certificate and teaching experience to get a teaching job in Hong Kong?

Hey guys really nice video. Ive got a question ive got a QTS in the UK but no practice as a teacher, ive dont 3 years as a TA plus PPA covers. Is there a chance to find a job in Hong Kong ?
Thank you for your explanation. It was really helpful. I like teaching , but my question is, do I need a degree to teach English in Hong Kong? What about wages ? New teachers , how much you’ll get paid ? Accommodation. To rent a flat one bedroom, how much does it cost ?
Hey guys! Thanks for the awesome info. I'm currently a TESOL teacher in Vietnam (2+years), but am working towards making the jump from English centers to international schools, and have been thinking quite seriously about Hong Kong. I had planned to be in the classroom by September, but I'm worried that COVID 19 could delay my start by at least 6 months, if not a full year. I'm also concerned about the protests, and China itself. Whats the situation over there at the moment? Can you guys provide any insight?
hey guys ! Great vlog. Enjoying it. Can I ask you, do you wear or recommend water proof / boots shoes for the monsoon season? I am moving there in a week and wondering if I should buy some in advance. Thanks.
I have done master of commerce and teaching experience of 6 years.... what are the additional requirement to teach? what are the chances to get through
Hey you both. Great discussion. I m on the verge of getting HK PR. I m a school principal. Can you suggest some schools where i could apply? When does the hiring begin? When does the session commence?
I am from Hyderabad(India,Telangana) What is the minimum and maximum qualification to work in Hong Kong as a maths teacher.. Is it secure What is the process.
I would love love love to go teach in hong kong? what is finding accommodation like, do schools help with it at all? Also i would prob be going over alone is it easy to make friends how do you meet up with the groups you mentioned in the vid im so afraid ill go over and spend everyday alone
There is a huge ex pat community and lots of teachers know each other. You’d definitely find people to spend time with! The school will help if you ask for it, but there are lots of groups on Facebook and forums etc to help too. Teaching here is fantastic be sure to add it to your list!
I want to work in Hong Kong schools as a maths teacher . Kindly send the details. Iam an Indian. My qualification MSc (maths) and Bachelor of Education
Hello! I do not work for a recruitment agency so cannot get you a job, however I did make a video about working abroad which may be useful for you at this stage. Good luck with your application!
Hi, am looking for a physics teaching position in HK. My documentation is done, also applied for accreditation on HKCAAVQ portal. Could you please give me some suggestions on how to get a teaching position in a secondary school in HK. TIA
I’m sorry I don’t work in Dubai (or teach secondary) so cannot help with this. Try looking at the website link I provided under the video and searching for a school in Dubai to pull up more information. I hope you find the information you are looking for!
I didn't use one personally, but I know there are a lot available. I went to visit a company recently to gather more information for my subscribers actually. The company is called experiorasia. If you quote "for teachers" on the application form the owner promised he would be available to connect with you with current employees so you could gain more insight (I would also make a referral fee to be honest with you!) Might be worth checking this out. I found my job on TES and not through an agency. A lot can also be said for emailing schools directly. Hope you manage to find something!
Yes, I studied 9 years ago but was required to have over 2 weeks experience of volunteering in a primary school. This may have changed now but it was needed at the time. Speak to your college or sixth form and see if they could allow a morning or day each week for experience, or consider taking time out of your holidays for a bit of volunteering. It’ll look great on a personal statement too!
Hey guys, another great video 👍 I’m looking at making a move in mid 2019 with the family. At this stage I’m trying secure a position in the UAE. Don’t think Hong Kong would work for us because of the cost and size of accommodation. Unless accommodation was included in the contract. ~David
Hi David! Sometimes schools will provide a housing allowance. Most schools would also provide a free place for your children. But yes, the places are very small! But there are areas that are better for families. Try searching for ‘discovery bay’ ☺️ good luck with the move!
In Hong Kong you get all public holidays off , Sunday and bank holidays both HK bank holidays and UK holidays. Check your contract to see if you will be paid for them
Hello, just to explain that the comment above may be useful if you are looking for a job in an education centre, but it is different for an international school. Most schools will have a week in October, 2/3 weeks for Christmas, 1/2 weeks for Chinese New Year, 1/2 weeks for Easter and 6 weeks for summer, as well as public holidays. So quite a lot of time off! I hope this information is useful for you. I have visited Korea before and had a wonderful time there - I would love to visit again!
Is it easier to find a teaching job in Hong Kong if you already live there? Or would it be better to apply before you move? My boyfriend is from Hong Kong and we're thinking of moving there once I get my pgce (and maybe after a couple of years teaching experience in the uk)
I'm not sure it makes much difference if i'm completely honest. I've heard as many success stories from those who already live here as I have from people who currently work in the UK. At the end of the day, if a school wants you they will support you in moving out here. I think having connections with Hong Kong will definitely help you though (especially as you already have an understanding of the culture in a way?) Stay in touch and let me know when you start applying :)
I googled a list of international schools in HK and applied directly via the school website. I applied back in late Jan, and I'm moving to HK for my two-year contract this July! :)
I don’t work in Dubai but I believe the application process is similar to the Hong Kong system. What questions in particular do you have about the application?
