Well I agree with you...in lower level, it is good to teach children long words that shortened one. Why? Because they need to be trained at an early age to understand new concepts.
Yes! I agre with you...children should be trained to understand new concepts at an early stage using long words instead of shortened one to develop their ability in uderstanding world problems especially in Mathematics. Their young minds is like a tabula rasa, or an empty tablet that you need to fill up with new concepts using long words rather than shortened one.
Not sure their minds are a blank slate...or that the length of the words is what matters. But we do want them to think holistically about the scenario, and connect the situations to their own experiences outside of the classroom.
