Great review. Kits are always fun to build

The out of box set up for the 6.4D is absolute ASS! Ask any AE Factory driver, and they will tell you it's terrible. How they managed to come to that as the out of the box set up, is mind boggling. That said, it's not even worth getting the 6.4D, just get the carpet car. The longer chassis of the carpet car makes a huge difference on stability and drivability. And it's much cheaper buying a ball diff for the 6.4 carpet, than a new chassis for the 6.4D. Again, all of the factory guys are running the +3mm chassis. Second, for clay run the softest springs. White Front, Green Rear, and adjust your fluids as needed. Carbon all of the front suspension bits. Arms, hubs, caster blocks. Aluminum bell cranks. Also the front aluminum 0° bulkhead. Stiffen it up. If you buy the carpet car, you also already get all of the sway bar mounts as well, and can buy the front and rear bar kits, and run the lightest White bars front and rear. It gives more mid corner grip, and smoothes the steering kit considerably. Also consider the longer rear arms as well. Debate is open on whether the standard or carbon are better. I prefer the stiffer carbon arms, for whatever that's worth. This is a fantastic car, but out of the box it leaves a lot to be desired, and requires a lot of hop ups to be track ready, IMHO. Currently the 6.4 is the best driving car I have. And has turned me from a long time TLR fanboy. Can't wait for this weekend to throw it down at the BK Classic, for that coveted next to last spot!

That sounds just like my original b6. I have changed absolutely everything and it’s still not dialed

Nice review ish! Been tinkering with mine now for about 2 months. Local track is Hobby Action. Me and most everyone has to put a few changes on the buggy. Front and rear sway bars for 1 thing. It's dialed now and couldn't be happier with it. Good luck with yours. Take care

Great video as always man! I'm currently building one to run in mod at Columbus, one thing i've noticed with the manual in this kit compared to previous versions (B6.3 and back) is they have omitted the parts diagram, numbers and the setup sheets. I used to use the kit setup sheet in the back of the manual for the initial build, Not with this kit. Now you have to go online to get any of it (parts and all) rather aggravating. Still a great build and awesome buggy though. Take care man!

Great video. General consensus here in Oz is kit setup oil is too thick. A few tweaks and car is golden. (from what I've read)

My first Build is the b6.4. I honestly had no issues with the build. With that though I did have all the tools you mentioned. On top of that I also have an electronics technician back ground that includes working in manufacturing so I am use to having to take the blue prints/exploded vue and figuring out the assembly process myself. The only thing I didn't have that I think would have been helpful is shock stand. I am now working on my b74.2 for my second build.

Bought the carpet version of this car. It was my first AE kit. Drove great once set it up to my liking. Ended up selling it because of how much the parts wear. In lest than three months, I changed the outdrives as they had notches. The pins of the dog bones started coming out and started hitting the roll center pate. Ball cups would come out easily. Ended up using Yokomo ones. Sold the damn thing.. first and last AE.

I took the spacer off the rear shock tower and moved the shocks to back of arm used the layback trans was pretty hooked up after that but have you tried the tlr 22 5.0 I've got the older rear motor and it's on rails outdoors

Funny enough , I found my Yokomo YZ2 CAL3 (carpet setup) to be much more stable to drive on dirt that the guys that ran the DTM3 (dirt) version of the kit. The CAL3 has a 3-4mm longer chassis like the B6.4 carpet kit Surprise surprise Yokomo released the YZ2 CAL3.1 and DTM3.1 , the DTM3.1 now has the CAL3 longer chassis and the CAL3.1 has an even longer chassis now...

The turnbuckle left right designation is reversed between the B6.4 and the B74.1. So to solve this the B74.2 went to numbered 1&2. Now it will be less confusing going forward.

Great video. I have built numerous kits and actuality just finished the 2wd Associated buggy. I am having trouble with the center diff on my 74.1.I have all the right parts in all the right places and it won't close all the way. Anything come to mind in your experience?

@RoachRC
@RoachRC Год назад
@@colestaples2010 I'd say it's a decent bit better, not *that* much better but better nonetheless. It's mostly the shocks as they do a better job of soaking up large jumps than smaller 12mm shocks to on carpet and smooth indoor tracks

@broccli2007
@broccli2007 Год назад
driving the dirt and carpet cars back to back I would say that there's not much difference at that track. the dirt version might be slightly better for a 17.5 class due to the lighter weight and faster transfer of weight to the rear. for me, I would get the dirt car if you run outdoors and everything else, get the carpet car
@broccli2007
@broccli2007 Год назад
oh the carpet car will probably need springs and a ball diff depending on where you're running. I ended up with a white rear spring and blue front
