It is important you use heavy line. I'm 17 and can't really afford expensive rods and reels so today I went to palos verdes with my old calcutta 200a its a small old reel and a Daiwa 8'6" Salmon and Steel head rod i bought for 30 bucks and i was using 30lb braid and 20lb p-line top shot and i finally hooked on to a nice calico it definetly wasnt a 5 punder because ive got a few of those, and well my line broke. Its frustrating not having proper gear so trust him use heavy line!!

OK thanks for the info. I was expecting more. I plan on getting a 170 montauk with a 90hp outboard, but im 17 so its going to be a few years haha

I'm buying a Gregor 22' center council they are going to build it for me we are getting the pricing over rite now so I will definitely be looking for you at the island's or Malibu when I get it.
