Hey guys, we are in the pits with Lenny Lottig's and Jesse Alexander's COPO's to see what its like between qualifying. We also make a quick run over to the Ford camp.
Oh my gawd! I guess (at 69yrs old!) I haven't been paying close enough attention! FX class? Wow! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an SB2 small block? With shaft rockers all in a straight line! No 'canted valve' DRCE (the WJ developed big block engine) in sight! Fantastic post! I have been semi out of the race engine loop apparently. And you say these engines 'could' be as fast as the Pro Stockers with the right pulleys? Obviously, pulley size is everything in an NA (naturally aspirated) engine! Back in the early 70s while in high school as die hard BowTie fans, we would return to HS after a big weekend NHRA event(that we'd heard about somewhere) and laugh when da Grump out foxed the S&M team with their huge 426 elephant Hemi! He would buzz those SBC's to unheard of rpm's in his Vega, and Camaro cars. And this was when the P/S class was written into the rule book!! Sorry for the huge comment...but thanks for the excellent post! PS appreciate and understand uour consideration of the crew while filming! I recall in 71 standing a few feet from the Army Funny car of Don Prudhomme while he tugged with all his might on the fiberglasd body to try and fit even wider slicks on bcuz our high altitude(2800') strip in Boise wouldn't hold the power he was making even in those prehistoric years! OMFG! Broke my ohone smashing the subscribe button!
No worries on a long comment. The engine is an 350 LSX Supercharged. It is the same engine that comes in the COPO's They could easily make 1600hp plus. The cars weigh 2600lbs and can only run a 10 inch tire. Its a very cool class, like pro stock should be.
