Find out what it takes to pass the Team Oregon Motorcycle Skills Test. First we warm up and practice a few basic maneuvers, then we test. Filmed on my Go Pro Hero 5.
When I finally took my test back in 2016 I absorbed everything they were trying to teach me.I’ve been riding since 2006 but acted like I had never ridden before because I actually did not know what to expect.I passed on my first time and finally got my endorsement and have been riding ever since. Thanks for sharing this video. It helps people a little to know what to expect.
Thanks for making this video, starting my class tonight. This definitely took any fear I had about the test away! Every part of it looks like a PITA on paper to me.
My husband and I want to get bikes and take this together. I've been riding sense I was 2 and nervous about getting back at it but love this video! Love those attitudes of the instructors! Makes me actually excited to go to the classes! Can't wait to ride street legal! 🤣
I'm in Oregon! I'm thankful for this cuz I had no idea what to expect, I hope its okay I'm a new rider and I'm taking the intermediate class, I'm doing lots of research on the traffic and fundamentals I just need to learn how to get turns down so hopefully I wont look too bad.
Thank you so much for posting this video.! It got rid of a lot of nervousness for me. I hope they open up these classes again very soon here in OREGON 😎
This is the same test that they do in the Basic class. My brain felt like a pile of oatmeal in that 2 day class. Most of it was fun, I learned a lot but there were times when the instructors are yelling two different things... one is saying to slow down, then at the next turn the other guy is saying to speed up. I ride a dirt bike and a Yamaha XT250 - just starting out. I really needed this class and have no regrets. Watching others go thru the class isn't the same as participating IMO. I did not pass my first time and I will go for a retest in 3 weeks. I failed the offset cone weave on the test but did pretty good in the training session. Total nerves. I appreciate this video!! I can tell, a little bit clearer, what is expected in the different tests so I am pretty sure I can pass the retest. Just get that damned offset cone weave done - those cones in my test looked like they were 5 feet apart!!! LOL. And on a stinking Grom. Yes, I am embarrassed!
Never I repeat never use the grom! I asked for a change of motorcycle and they said none of the other motorcycles have enough gas in them.. Had to endure it throughout the class. I got some solace in the fact that when an instructor took my bike to demonstrate, even he couldn't do the routine properly 😂
The IRC is a one day class for an endorsement whereas the basic is a 2 day class for an endorsement. Totally worth it to do the IRC if you’ve driven a bike in my opinion.
While I'd tend to agree, there were a couple guys in my basic 2 day class that had ridden a lot without licenses. They seemed to think they were too good for the class and acted like it was a waste of their time. Neither ended up passing. If you've ridden a bike awesome, but if you don't take the course seriously, you might be surprised when you get a no go at the end.
I’m glad I’m not an instructor. I’d make everyone do a complex choreographed dance to “Go West” from the Village People. “Michael, I need you to be at the final beat of the third measure!” Susan, you’re not stalling enough like the others at the staccatos!
I will be taking a course on July 24th, I've got moto/offroad gear. Will my gloves and helmet be satisfactory for the course, in addition to the other riding gear listed?
Oh the memories... From this past November haha. I really enjoyed the course when I took it and think even experienced riders can benefit from going. It was cool seeing you attend one. Are you planning to take any of the advanced courses?
Where was your test taken at . I have a friend who wants to get the endorsement and was looking for a place to practice with some markings to help her visualize the test
New to the streets… I have rode dirt for 9 1/2 years … Would it be bad to take this test on a grom ? Should I use their bike? Ugh I’m scared now lol .!!
I have a 2020 Ninja ZX-6R that I've been riding for a while now. Would that be a pain in the ass to use for this class and test? Should I just use one of their bikes or would my bike be fine for this?
@@OregonMotorcycle Awesome. Appreciate the response! I'll deff opt for one of theirs. Why though? Out of curiosity. I'll take your word for it, but wouldn't it be easier if you used a bike you had a years(+/- mo.) worth of experience on already? Or is my ZX-6R just to racey for what they want you to do out there? hah.
@@Solo6R The bikes they provide are stupid easy to ride. One of the test facilities has a grom or two. The bike I rode during this test felt like it would balance itself and had a clutch that was imposible to stall. The ergonomics on your ninja make it hard to perform low speed maneuvers. That bike was made to go fast, not weave through cones in a parking lot:)
@@OregonMotorcycle Hah, very true. Appreciate your time and feedback. I got the class on Saturday in Bend. A bit nervous because I'm deaf in one ear, and don't have GREAT hearing out of the other, so hearing instructions without taking my helmet off might be difficult. We'll see. It's not the riding I'm worried about, it's properly hearing the dang instructions! hah.
@@OregonMotorcycle what's the best method for the offset weave? Look straight ahead or look to past the next cone? Otherwise just simple throttle/clutch control it seems
@@heatherpoppell8271 not sure exactly. Maybe 15 feet. The point of that exercise is to learn how to feather the clutch. I highly recommend lots of parking lot practice. Look up some of my vids on that. I’m also working with some friends on a “Moto farm”. We train new riders on a private course. I also do a weekly group ride designed for beginners.
egregion because when I moved to Oregon the dmv told me it was going to be 200 bucks to transfer my endorsement, which is not true. At the time I had no plans to ride so I forfeited the endorsement.
The ‘4 fingers over the brake/clutch’ rule for a new rider is completely unnecessary. While it could be suggested and a good habit to learn in the long run, all you are doing is giving an inexperienced rider an excuse to look down at their hands when in motion.
kornflakez I surrendered my MC endorsement about 6 years ago when I moved here from Cali. The misinformed DMV clerk said it would cost me 170 bucks and a safety class. I said screw it. Come to find out that’s not true. I would have been a simple transfer... Anyway, I found myself freshly divorced and in need of 2 wheels which required and endorsement;). I’ve always had my permit, there’s just a long waiting period to take the class.... I originally got my first MC endorsement in Cali nearly 20 years ago.
I'm 13 at the moment and I'm starting to watch videos on how to get my motorcycle license. Is this all I do to get my license? Do I just make an Appointment with Oregon Motorclye and get my license at 16?? Please and thank you for a response in advance.
Take the online course first. Then take the written exam at the dmv. Then go do this test. All of it is pretty easy. If you can read and ride a bicycle, you’ll have no problems;). Be safe when you do get it and check back in.
Yep! Ive been riding bikes for well over 20 years now and had my endorsement at one time. When I moved to Oregon years back, the misinformed lady at the DMV told me it would cost hundreds of dollars to transfer my MC endorsement, which is not true. I decided to surrender it. I had already taken the DMV test prior to the course, so ALL my testing was finished and passed when I left this course.
@@OregonMotorcycle one question, can you buy the motorcycle without the endorsement? I heard that DMV wont transfer the title unless you have the endorsement.
@@yuribezmenovwasright Yeah there's that... I thought the instruction with zero feedback ensuring you will pay more money was pretty bad. Just a bad experience with their inbstructors.
