Im sorry but I don’t get the excitement. Your best team is led by a 40 yo, and 3 of your top dogs are all older than 35 and none of them got to playoff second round. Last 5 nba mvp all gone to non native, no native star in the top 3 of mvp ranking this year. It’s not a good look tbh, regardless of the results. Let’s hope Ant will carry the torch, otherwise it’s gonna be bad down the road.
I feel like it is a statement and reminder to the world that USA is the best basketball nation of the world by far. Them not winning the World Cup in September 2023 was disappointing and tiny Germany was like: hey look at us, we are so good we won I am german and I can only laugh about that! German basketball is bad. Even when I only look at the EuroLeague where german clubs placed and HOW they play.. it’s awful! And not even talking about the joke of the century that Dennis Schröder is the best German player.. we finally had a team of many equally good players - that’s what brought us that far in World Cup but let’s be honest.. the USA team was like the 5th row and by far not the best team they could have send. That’s my opinion 🤷🏼
What Mr.Lyles said sounds like "Respect and play for your country!" A wake up call that being the greatest on paper doesn't necessarily mean you become a world champion. You are required to compete and win in world stage to be the world champion. I can easily understand Mr.Lyles' position. He is USA's representative on his field. He fights for his county and then there are bunch of athletes who don't represent (or even refuse to represent) their country and claiming themselves as world champion.
Fully agree , my take on this is Noah Lyles is a representative of the USA in Track and Field and although i don't agree with everything he said , here is what i did if objectively speaking if people listen to what he said putting all bias and ego aside you can see although he could have said it in a better way as it might come off as some dumb / someone who doesn't know what he is talking about and if that were truly the case most of the people would straight up ignore what he says all the time be it social media or press. He(Noah) is competing against the world maybe not the best but "World" and only upon winning do they say they are World Champions , I don't think he ever doubted their ability to play basketball because clearly NBA is the one of the if not the best league in the world if you ask any aspiring competitive player in the world where they would want to play most would say the NBA this is not considering representing their country i am talking about league because there is no greater accomplishment that representing your nation rightfully so , the ever increasing foreign players in the NBA speaks for itself as to why they want to play in the NBA now of course there is money but you know it is one of the most competitive leagues in the world also Olympics is only held once in five years you need to prove your worth in the meantime by playing in the best leagues now back to the point i don't think he ever critiqued their talent , competitive nature their accolades speak for themselves unless he did in which case that would be the worst comment ever and no one would even consider it but unless you play and represent your nation , compete and come out on top you are not the World Champion he is not saying you can't win there is a reason why most people are betting on USA to win but unless you come out to play and win everything you did accomplish wouldn't because you are not the World Champion and by the way only in this case it wouldn't matter because for choosing the roster accolades play a very minor role and only the best are chosen to represent based on their current performance if accolades were to determine everything there are many players with way more accolades than SGA , Booker etc. so only the best are chosen.
@@navarrohenfield7214 USA has 95% chance of winning, there is no doubt about it. But, it's just a chance. It doesn't become reality until it's happening.
@@navarrohenfield7214 Bruh did you read what i said i never said USA would lose if anything they are the favorites by a huge margin it is not even close read my comment properly then type whatever you want.
and then embiid decided to contact the french to gain their citizenship because "i feel like a french man" just to then dip and join the US team so he can get carried to a title
Lyles comment will stay true no matter what. If Team USA wins Team USA will be world champions, his point stays that you dont become world champions by winning the NBA
The best of the best in the world come play in the NBA. A LOT of elite NBA players are from overseas. I don’t see how they’re not world champs when its the best competition in the world
@@jasonc3303 Because it's a national league the teams dont represent a country. Winning team of NBA is the best team in the best league, but not world champs thats a different kind of competition. I don't understand why americans have such a hard time to understand it, you just live in your own bubble somehow.
@@jasonc3303 You dont have there teams from abroad competing, it is US Champions even if it is the best team in the world. It is not even North america champions, lol.
@@jasonc3303tell me you’re American without telling me you’re American, the logic is so twisted. An entire nation was, and still seems to be, hung up over an argument that can be discarded by a Wikipedia definition. By the same logic you could argue that the Champions League winner could call themselves „Worldchampion“, but not one of them would dare to do that.
@@aladaris2110 ill give you that one, kawhi also is very chill, but talent wise, experience wise and everything that means winning in game, id choose a one legged kawhi over tatum any day
It's crazy people are calling this the greatest team every assembled, and LeBron James accounts for the following: 24% of the combined All-Star appearances, 34% of the combined All-NBA selections, and 50% of the combined MVPs.
It's crazy people are calling this the greatest team every assembled, and Michael Jordan accounts for the following: 20% of the combined All-Star appearances, 31% of the combined All-NBA selections, and 55% of the combined MVPs.
nah. despite what the name suggests, the nba is an international league which houses the best players across the world. “World Champions” is a term they coined for whoever wins the nba finals. they are their own entity and can call themselves whatever they want.
@@jhdivina You are wrong lol. It's the NBA championship. World championship would mean you represent your country and go against other countries best that they can assemble. It's simple.
Bro its not about being worthy of calling them world champions. The NBA is a national league with only american teams. In order to become a world champion you need to win the world cup with your country, just like in any other sports
@@WilliamFuller-qe5rs if a team wins the NBA, they're champions of the NBA, not the world. What difference does it make if a national with players from various teams in the NBA wins the world championship?
@fotonapapa If international players are good enough, they can make the NBA. That's what he means. It shows that the reason the league has so many American players is because the American players are better
I think ur slow, being the NBA champion makes you the world champion. All the greats from other countries COME to play to the NBA. The nba teams vs overseas team have an insane win loss record LOL, they are the world champions 😂
If an NBA team consisting of only foreign players won the NBA, how could they be validated as world champions by team USA winning Gold at the Olympics? Nobody says the NBA doesn't have the best players in the world. But winning the NBA can't be an automatic world championship. You can claim they would win against the rest of the world but before they've done it, the NBA champions are only the most likely contender to the title of team with highest potential to be the best in the world.
im from lithuania and i can say that lithuania team was weak and nobody expect nothing from lithuania as lithuanian person so in world championship usa was agains the worst lithuania team in world champioship
@@NoNsToPxs the team witch was at world championship was weak nobody expect nothing even the team by it self dont expect nothing but we win agains strong teams witch was usa to and dont say that usa was weaker :)
Lyles’s comment was just saying “yall shouldn’t call yourselves world champs bc the league is an American League” idk why all the nba players got so butthurt about it. Like obviously the nba is the best basketball league in the world but the team that wins that team is not the best team in the world, hence they shouldn’t be called world champs
Their angry comments only showed the classic american education to the rest of the world. If anything Lyles was pointing out that the obnoxious tendency of americans going "''MURICA"
To compare this 2024 team to the 1992 dream team is such a disgusting take. in 1992, 9/12 players were in their prime years of 26-30 with Bird (35) Magic (32) and Laettner (22 & college player) being the only three that weren't. Compare that to the 2024 team and you can already tell that this team is destined to not win the gold. Sure the 2024 team has more accolades in SOME areas, but that's because a few ( Curry, LeBron, KD) are the majority of those and are at the end of their careers. Aren't we all aware of what has happened when superteams form in the NBA? They fail like in Phoenix (KD Booker Beal), Nets (KD, Harden, Irving), Lakers (Born, AD, Westbrook) and a plethora of other teams.
Thats because none of those are super teams. None of those come close to the Heatles. That team had two guys that could have won MVP any given year for 4-5 years straight and a top 10 big with one of the deepest benches to go with it. You can't form super teams through trade. That Heat team only was assembled because LeBron joined in FA which allowed the Heat to keep all of their assets to build the ideal bench and supporting cast.
Germany is world champions since they won the World Cup, it’s sad to see that these players have inflated egos to not want to represent their nation on a worldwide scale. But props to them for stepping up now.
Competition then and now is completely different. Other countries have leveled up their skills, so the USA team now should not expect to win by the same large margins attained by former team.
It would be interesting to think about how would Yugoslavian basketball team would look like today (if Yugoslavia did not fall apart back in the early 90's). Jokić, Dončić, Bogdanović, Nurkić, Dragić...just to name a few.
The supreme team? The cream team? (If anybody questions that one, it’s bc they’re the cream of the crop. Then gaslight the person by telling them to get their mind out of the gutter). The bald-spot-gleam team? The Jream team? (Bc they’re the Jr. dream team, and also bc Jrue is on it). The mostly-older-than-Kareem team? The meme team? (Bc they’re going to beat their opponents so bad they’re gonna be memeing on them). The Le-fuck-you-three-m team?
By the way curry hasn't played in the olympics because he was injured every time the olympics came around and lebrons reason was because he needed alot of rest
People calling this team rhe avengers yet in the playoffs one got gentleman's swept, one got swept, and one didnt even make it...and this was all the first round 😅😅😅 And every person on 4:50 is already out of the playoffs too 😂
I feel like the big question is how they're gonna work as a team. When you have a team of stars they're all going to want the spotlight and I don't know how their potential poor synergy is going to compete against teams like France. Feel free to debate with me but I don't think this is as sealed as people might think.
Finally America taking world basketball seriously to be world champions you have to win international championships and Olympic gold medals being an nba champion is not a good old championship
The disrespect for Serbia. They don't need Jokic to win. They have shit ton of talent. I am lithuanian, and they are our lfe long rivals, but to say Serbia is just Jokic is disrespectful.
There needs to be a clause in every NBA players contract that if chosen you must serve your country and participate in the Olympics. It also doesn't help the NBA and the Olympics have different rule sets and officiating.
This tournament has no immediate impact on any GOAT debate. It might have future impact though: If Wembanyama somehow manages to win gold here it certainly will have to be a factor worth mentioning if he challenges the Michael Jordan GOAT status 12-15-18 years from now. Jordan has that scenario where he almost single handedly beat a team of NBA All Stars before he entered the NBA. Might have been a warm up game for the 1984 olympics? That might be thrown into such a conversation, if Wembanyama gets to be as good as some people seem to think.
They easily have the skill and experience necessary. In other words, they have what it takes; but do they have the determination? If they play for the sake of playing basketball and winning, and not for the money, then they can easily win. If they train as hard and take it as seriously as they would for the playoffs, then they would indubitably win. The question is if.
Perhaps not the most dominant team in history relative to their competition (just because of how much better the internation competiton has gotten) but is the most objectively stacked in terms of pure ability and talent.
USA must go all out and respect its rivals otherwise they have no chance no matter how good the team they have the rest of the world is now better than ever you can see it with the naked eye the last time an American won MVP was 5/6 years ago
