Me too When I watch USA vs Japan I always cheer for each team even though I am from usa

That play is one of the reasons I love haikyuu because that exact same scenario played out in the game against shiratorizawa. When tendou (shiraroriawa's middle) gets a block against karasuno's synchronized attack, he explains that since 9ne of karasuno's players needed to make a diving dig, they weren't in position to attack. The only other players on that side were the setter and libero, so he knew the attack would come from the other side of the court. Without haikyuu, a non-volleyball player wouldn't think anything of the Japan setter pushing the middle to the right during that play. But now they can appreciate how attentive and smart some of these volleyball players are.

go back a few second at 3:53, the Japanese setter was also the one who sent the ball to the Italy spiker on the left. He did that deliberately to narrow down attack options from team Italy. Team Italy have no choice but to attack from the right and that was the exact thing Sekita wants

If I wasn't so tall I could see myself playing as a libero, there's something about defense that I love, just like with spiking it feels like art in a way

I think these videos show how fast it is but in the game sometimes it can feel faster. Because you’re even closer.

Wait aren't they mostly known for their amazing floor defense?

Coming from a baseball perspective you always want your step/hop whatever to land as the bat hits the ball so you are moving and engaged should the ball go to you. I would assume the same goes for volleyball so you want you step/hop to land as the server contacts the ball
