SUPPORT THE OFFICIAL RELEASE: www.funimation... This was cut from the official broadcast but originally FUNimation were going to go with this scene. What do you think?
@@cartmansfat123 nah. iirc it was cartoon network airing a teaser for it that tipped toei off. Sean wouldn't have known that they'd have the TFS guys there, since his lines were already recorded in advance
@@ARZ_201 It's not so much that he doesn't like TFS, but rather he was more upset about them profiting off their parody. He is a strong voice against them, but more because he felt it should have stayed a non-profit fan-based parody. To which, I say, "...What about Mel Brooks? The Wayans?"
@@cartmansfat123 You joke, but knowing how Schemmel acts at high-class guest parties after cons, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. EDIT: I've worked security at these parties. Schemmel is a crying drunk. It's actually quite amusing... at first. Then it just gets pitiful.
@@SenatorArmstrong2018 Quadruple ironic because no other Goku voice actor has sexually harassed co-workers (Edit: Okay, I was wrong. It was the VEGETA VA that was doing it, not Sean. At least, to my knowledge. I'm not completely up to date.)
@@samuell24 they gave a good reason to leave it, they're just done with the project, they have the right to move on, there's no point in staying subscribed if you're not supporting their new content, it's kinda insulting imo, i'm subscribed for the dragon ball shorts
@@tnterrarian9997 They have a right to move on, nut they did promise season 4 only to go "just kidding :)" So no, that was bullshit, I would've been perfectly okay if they stopped at Cell AS THE ORIGINALLY INTENDED and made no hints of Season 4.
@@KaiserMattTygore927 they were intending to make the next season, but then they realized how much they were sacrificing to do it without getting anything out of it, they realized they had to move on, they didn't go "just kidding" they gave us a full reason as to why they just can't keep on, they understood this AFTER they made the promise, they aren't wrong here, they just realized the truth too late
@@ShadowMark3_ well if they were recording everything a year in advance... Because Perfect cell in DBZA was in December 2015 and this was early 2017 Honestly Taka's Perfect Cell is literally perfect
Now I want to see a reversal of this scene in DBZA, where the official voice actors do the fake characters and the DBZA actors are still the characters.
Liam Funnyman Pssssssshhhh what logic is that? Just because they hate one character doesnt mean they will skip a major part of dbz, they did bardock the special episode (the one with lord chilled), and they didnt like that at ALL, plus Goten didnt appear alot, most of it is filler and......tfs doesnt do most of it
Despite removing it entirely (as per Toei request) and replacing it with the version from the original DBZ dub, they were clever enough to sneak in the line of TFS Krillin telling people to buy the merchandise, leaving at least one thing intact.
They can as long as they use a pseudonym and don't do the voice they play in the main series. Chris Sabat has done a few TFS roles under the table like that since it can't be legally proven when his name isn't on there and he's not doing something recognizable like his Vegeta.
It is doable as long as voice actors do not use the same voices as they are contracted with funimation to use. For example Chris Sabat would not be able to do Vegeta voice for TFS .... but he could still do something close to it.
He totally got so into the scenario though that one day while recording he just started reading the Satan bobblehead actor's lines, as the action happened, and they decided to have him dub over the lines in post.
Lenny Boi The thing is DBZ wasn't that mature in the first place (which isn't a bad thing when you consider the intended audience) but with the Abridged version, nostalgic viewers of the original can experience the show all over again without it being overly redundant.
Lenny Boi They all love dragon ball and seem like generally great guys. TFS makes DBZA for the fun of it and millions of people really enjoy it, it doesn't seem disgraceful to bring extra life into a beloved series
They had minor roles and didn't apprise any of their known roles in DBZA. Toei hates them purely because they use their animation even though it's protected under parody laws in the US and a fuckload of editing goes into them, even correcting mistakes in the original animation.
Something I just noticed - Lani's line at the end, the little disclaimer in his Krillin voice about buying Mr. Satan merch, actually made it to the aired episode where randoms did the rest of the bit instead of TFS. He's not credited, but it's definitely still him.
Fun fact: in one of their animated shorts, TFS does show Cell in HFIL (which they made distinct from hell by reserving it for the super-powered baddies and where everyone's fitted with ki-suppressing ankle bracelets)
@@AaronLitz "Wholesome" as defined by the Cambridge English Dictionary: good for you, and likely to improve your life either physically, morally, or emotionally: wholesome food good, wholesome family entertainment He looks like a nice, wholesome young man.
I love how they didnt just use TFS's voice actors for this, but they filled it up with SO MANY Dragon Ball inside jokes. This is the best kind of fan service
"My power is maximum!" "With push-ups and sit-ups and plenty of juice!" "I shall now send you to the next dimension!" "See! You! In! HFIL!" "Mondo cool!" "His coolness is over 9000!" this is the best scene of Dragon Ball anything
I love how FUNimation pretty much openly supports and likes TFS at this point, but Toei themselves just continues a sad and irritating vendetta against them.
And that scene in DBS when Vegeta breaks the Time Chamber & it zooms in on Mr. Popo's face, most likely being a TFS reference, even him being slightly scary
its a japanece thing, they hate when others use their stuff without their permition, its one of the same reasons why nintendo is soo hostile against fan games, in japanece culture stealing is a huge no no no matter the reason and they consider things like parodies and the like like a huge disrespect which is like series like gintama are soo rare compared to parodies here in the west
@21stCentryIdeot You say that like TFS wasn't putting in a ton of effort themselves into making the series as good as it is. Also, yes, fair use. DBZA is a parody, which under US law, falls under fair use
@21stCentryIdeot no, “stealing” would be taking their content, mirroring it, maybe throwing it into a computer to “upscale” it to 60 FPS, and calling it new work. Rewriting the entire script, redesigning new character arcs, adding new lore, and only using select scenes from the original (60 10-20 minute episodes for DBZA vs DBZ’s 194 20 minute episodes for the sagas they covered) is far from what I’d consider stealing. And, as literally every single episode of DBZA says at the beginning, their work of PARODY falls under the US’s fair use copyright law.
In an alternate timeline, TeamFourStar did this scene and they actually got the real Funimation voice actors of their characters to play the actors hilariously misquoting lines from the series
Was probably a technicality-- since he's not playing Krillin in any way, it's fine. Kaiser Cell probably would have been okay, Nappa Satan is an edge case, but Masako Goku and Lani Vegeta/Piccolo were right out.
According to one of the voice actors at Funimation whom I spoke with at a local con (I won't identify out of respect), Apparently Toei got word of this before it aired and they got pissed at the studio and said that if they aired it, they would pull out from letting Funimation distribute all their content. That's how much they hate TeamFourStar.
@@Vomitaco15from what I remember hearing he got fed up with fans constantly bringing up DBZA or asking him to say lines from it. Supposedly he does look more favorably in it now
@@jacob_90s He was initially very fond of it. Then Toei brought out the legal guns and Sean's comments essentially amounted to "no comment" and "it's probably not legal" thereafter. Chris is in a high enough position at Funimation to have the privilege of not giving a shit what Toei thinks hence this scene here. He's in charge of casting for many Funimation dubs, Toei can't tell him who to cast but they can pull scenes from broadcasting. He even cast them under aliases in the hopes of getting it onto TV before they realized but somebody at Funimation snitched and the scene was pulled. Sabat got the last laugh though. Lanipator's Krillin voice saying to buy their merch got past the Toei censors.
I screamed and wheezed with all of the references: 1. Prince of All Saiyans 2. You are most unkind! 3. TFS Nappa as Hercule. 4. Over 9,000 5. TFS Voice Actors 6. "Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, and plenty of juice” 7. HFIL 8. “To the next dimension” 9. “How Rude!”
@@Jagm3854 yeah the only reason they deleted it is because toei told them to, if they didn't like them they wouldn't have gotten them for this in the first place
krillinmesoftly I don’t recall when he said it or if he outright dislikes them, but he at least likes them less than Sabat. It’s the same kind of situation where Dan Green likes Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series but Kaiba’s voice actor doesn’t.
Why did you write yourself as the tutorial villain? The better question is: how much will you PAY me to be the tutorial villian? ... You're gonna go far in this business.
"This is the best show I've ever seen!" considering the only other things Goku has ever watched are Roshi's workout VHS tapes, I'm actually willing to believe that
Even when he's spending time with his family, I have trouble imagining Goku watching TV. Maybe when Goten wants to show him his favorite cartoon, but at this point, he hasn't been alive at the same time as Goten.
I like to believe that they had him read this line out of context. Of course from the first run, Sean knew he was commenting on a parody of the cell games, but didn't know it was TFS this time.
I love that they "accidentally" aired this version before replacing it with a more official version. Of course they knew that Toei wouldn't go for this, but once it reached the internet, there'd be no taking it back.
In a way, it's Funi's way of saying "Fine, we'll play ball. We'll honor your wishes and-oops! We accidentally aired the TFS version. Don't worry, we'll replace it with the remastered version we made earlier and this dumb idea will be lost forever..." ;)
DBRB Showcases they have no effect on what the dubs do. They can’t tell what they do and they don’t care because it’s just the voices of some short scene that has no effect on the series for a different part of the world. This was Funimation’s choice for whatever reason.
Tia Blue His contract binds Sabat to not be able to voice any of his characters outside of the official Dragon Ball dub. I haven't watched that TFS movie so did he voice Vegeta or a character that isn't his in the official dub?
FUNimation okayed this, Toei however wanted their heads on pikes because of this. Seriously, this version was removed from the DVD releases afterwards.
CEOs of TOEI don't like TFS, in fact, they hate them so much, that they threaten to remove Funimation license for DBZ if they don't comply to remove that scene from air
Without TFS, not everyone would be that interested in original anime. But it did help grow the fan base. And hating em for copyrights or whatever. It belongs in RU-vid, like this one, it's perfect 👌
It's funny that Toei hates TFS so much because they're scared that they're gonna take their fan base or something else that doesn't really make much sense while TFS is what got me interested in Dragon Ball in the first place. Had it not been for TFS I doubt I ever would have cared about the original DB, Z, or super.
You people are ignorant it seems, there's no "disliking them because they're more popular" they just hate how they tell them not to do something and they do it anyways, that's massively disrespectful to the company, regardless of your "under the protection of copyright claim and their disclaimers at the beginning" If a company that doesn't support modding tells me not to mod a game, even if I'm modding it offline and not hurting the game for others, I'm probably not gonna do it out of respect for the company It's no different from that, and yes I know people will disagree with me because people think they're entitled and above rules nowadays because the will of the people should matter more than a company's or some mumbo jumbo, but honestly I don't care if people disagree with me. In the end, what I said about respecting a company's wishes is 100% a fact
And don't take ignorant as an insult, all it means is that you lack a certain knowledge on a subject, which was made clear by your statement "it's funny how toei is scared tfs is gonna take their fanbase"
unfortunately they can't, they have contracts with funimation and since toei hates TFS, they could get into a lot of legal trouble. However Cris Sabat (Piccolo, Vegeta and many others) and Kyle Hebert (Adult Gohan) have been said to have voiced some minor characters in the abridged series. Sabat did the narrator in the android 13 movie, and Hebert supposedly voiced Santa in plan to erradicate christmas. The funimation cast does have a nice relationship with TFS even though they kind of have to keep it lowkey.
@@hingusmingus6399 LOL Nope. Funimation casted them without Toei knowing about it. When Toei did find out, they threatened Funimation to take away their rights to dub Dragon Ball if they put the TFS voices in the Kai version.
Why its not on TV. TLDR: CN is fine with, Funimation is fine with it, Toriyama LOVES it. Its the old guys at Toei, or rather Japanese culture which has a problem with it. Japanese men are incredibly proud of things they create and do not like when something better is made using what they made without their explicit consent. They see it as a perversion of their creation (Toriyama an exception cuz he likes TFS).
Is not Japanese culture is just Toei, they are assholes, beside Toei doesn't understand the copyright laws, this a parody so is supposed to be protected with the copyright laws but Toei doesn't care about that, so if TFS does anything with DBZ they going to try to make that thing disappear
DarkHeartTheEmo even though I think Toei is being unnecessarily stubborn, from an objective standpoint, DBZA may be intended as a parody, but it uses actual footage from the series which can go into “piracy” territory. I still side with TFS but it is not a parody in the traditional sense of the word. From that legal standpoint, Toei does have a case. The other problem is that the fair use law that exists in one country does not automatically line up with the laws of another country. I don’t know how it works in Japan but since DBZ is owned by a Japanese company their laws might get priority. I wish Toei just acknowledged that DBZA brings in more fans to enjoy the franchise as a whole.
