How are you keeping the predators from digging into the goat house?

Good start. Pitch the roof Needs a floor so yotes don’t dig under the house Keep them baby goats safe. Attach fence to house , make sure fence can’t be pushed over out of the cinder block base. Great team work Love it

I don’t know about the set up of the goat pen Matt. I think you should attach the house to the pen, and if the cage isn’t that heavy, I would at least attach the pen to the ground in a couple places so the pen can’t be pushed away from the cinder block caps. I think an animal can did up the cinder block caps. Wild animals are pretty darn smart, and aren’t going to easily give up. They’re going to keep trying everything before they give up. Just my thoughts.

You should put a game camera or something to watch the goats, helps keep an eye on them incase something does mess with them, as well as extra footage to show to us!

Hey matt, I see there's a weakness with the pen! The small house has no flooring, which means a coyote can dig under the house instead of the fence

Check out Lake Fork Guy’s everlasting battle with predators trying to get in his chicken coop… he had to basically make his coop Fort Knox to keep the predators out. I’m afraid predators are going to be able to get to the goats.

I put 1/2 in welded wire and put all around the bottom and then put the cinder blocks on top of it as it comes out 1 ft around from the walls to the ground. The blocks then keep anything from digging under the blocks as they hit the wire. I used on my chicken coop and never lost a bird to predators. Worried about these babies being out there by themselves. Hope they are ok! Good luck in Florida and stay safe!

Hey Matt! I figured since you got these goats and I currently show those exact same type of goat I would give you a few tips. First of all the pen looks great for their age. Eventually you will need to widen that opening and give them some more room but I think you talked about that last video. Also you will want to put some blocks around the bottom of the hut because predators at least in my experience will almost never go through the fence. They will always attempt the house first. Also you want to find some way to seal off that gap like you said. Not so much for predators but for the goats. They love to squeeze through any holes. Make sure you get and motion sensor flood light on the pen. And in the summer put a tarp and misters around the top of the fence. Oh and a heat lamp for the hut and make sure to change the shavings about every 2 weeks. That’s all I can think of for now. Thank you for making these amazing videos. Much love from Covington OK!!

a couple minor suggestions for the Goat House Matt.. right inside the little door to the right of it, you should put a small wall that extends halfway or slightly more to the other side of the house, they would have to walk around it and go into the back to snuggle. this will help keep the wind from blowing directly into the house and onto them. on top of that, a thick flap could be placed in the doorway, something like flexible plastic or rubber, maybe even a cut up shower mat, to reduce airflow into the house even more. I would also attach the goat house to the kennel. something desperate enough could easily push it to the side and get in. you could use that metal strap stuff they use to hang water pipes in houses.

What about something under the doghouse walls? Predators can dig right under that easily.

I can't wait for the rain catch system he's probably gonna do for these goats... gonna make the chimkens look like child's play

hey matt, just a tip, something can get in to the house since you didn't put anything there. just use the fasteners for the kennelfence and screw it to the house. and put hinges on the roof for easier cleaning =)

Matt, predators will dig right under the wood wall into the house... I didn't see cinderblocks under the house itself, just letting ya know in case you forgot! If you had them in and I missed it, disregard.

maybe you also need to put cinder blocks around the outside of the house to deter critters from digging under the goat house. it's not terribly secure if there's not even a hardware cloth floor on it

use plumber strap around the pipe that meets up to their little wooden house. It'll fasten the cage right close to it so nothing can squeeze it apart or get into it

Matt, put some foam pipe insulation around the top edge of the goat hut to insulate it and use hasp latches to hold the lid down. Carabiners are great for holding the latches shut and easier than locks. Ain’t nobody got time for all those screws lol

One of the things I love about the goat videos is that before they existed, Demo would just sleep a lot and do his own thing. But now that the goats are around, he's in every clip. His protective nature has definitely kicked in. I dare a coyote to try to find a way in when he's around.

For the goat door go to a auto parts store and get a rubber mud flap. Our animal center here uses them all the time for their enclosed kennels.

We built a sturdy doghouse for our large dog and made a small opening to help conserve heat if he wanted to stay outside. It had a peak rook with asphalt roofing and was made of 2x4’s and 3/4” plywood and made the roof so it could lifted off and had 2x2 lumber attached to the underside of the roof so that the roof couldn’t be knocked ajar. Years later we went on vacation and a friend stayed at our house. A few days into the trip we received a call and one of our dogs had died, who had been old so it wasn’t a shock. He had already taken him to the vet and didn’t elaborate. After we came home he told us the worst part was cleaning out the doghouse as he had released his bowels when he died. We apologized and said at least he could just lift off the roof and hose it down. A look of shock as he wasn’t aware of that and had already cleaned it when he called us but the opening was only about 9x12” and rounded on top. We went to show him as I planned on cleaning it better and his reaction was priceless. He was a maritime engineer and was quite handy but never tried to lift the roof🤣 It became the funny story that eclipsed the one that involved him, his 2 brothers and a friend, 2 of whom were HS football players. We had heavy solid wood vintage/antique furniture that the had moved including a garage full of heavy tools and equipment. We also had a large chest freezer. I was still loading some boxes and they hadn’t asked about the freezer as I planned on emptying it before we moved it. The next time I saw it the freezer was on the moving van and I just shrugged. At the new house it had to go down 8 stairs and they grumbled about the weight. After they got it in place and I plugged it in and opened it to see if the food had shifted much, they were shocked as nobody apparently had opened it. These were all bright guys, one went to MIT but nobody thought to look. 😅

I loved the speech about getting work done. When the last mansion video came out I was dreading pressure washing the house. That video got me up and moving! Haha

I've been watching demo ranch and off the ranch for 8 think they both come about but my favorite is when I see you and mere work together ❤ it brings some joy into my life love you guys keep it going

Home Depot hint: if you are getting sheet lumber like plywood, OSB or MDF use the bumper carts so you can slide them straight into the bed of your truck without trying to juggle a 4x8 sheet.

Since I retired early several years ago (64 in 5 days) I have always made it a point to get at least ONE major project done every day, and a few smaller ones! 😁

Roof should be angled back so rain, snow, leaves etc dumps behind. Screw the cage to the box so it can't be pushed away. Some kind of floor in the box like wood, fence, cinder blocks, etc. Buy a muck fork for their droppings.

I have Alpine dairy goats and they rarely make any noise. I love it, they do cry out at feeding time or if they want a mate, but otherwise they are quiet. You have Boar goats and the opening is going to have to get bigger soon because they grow big.
