Did you ever work out what the issue was on this?

The real problem is money! I work with these everyday and its still cheaper to buy new, than, fix.

Some people do have time but not money. It is also about learning and a challenge especially if one design products.

Gentlemen, without a starting capacitor, the single-phase asynchronous electric motor will not start by itself and will make a characteristic hum. The same will happen if the rotor or gearing is physically blocked, stator winding is damaged or start capacitor hasn't enough capacity (according to the manual it should have 12,5 µF/400V) or is just worn. I believe that the cause of the noise and the lack of power in this particular case may be a problem with the improper alignment of the rotor, which may rub against the inside of the stator core. In my opinion, you should: dismantle the entire motor and carefully inspect it visually for abrasions on the rotor cage and the inside of the stator core, replace the rotor bearings just in case, and then assemble the motor, paying attention to proper and even tightening of the fixing tie rods so that the rotor rotates smoothly and noiselessly. After the tie rods are properly tightened, they should be secured with a Loctite type agent. By the way, it is worth measuring the resistance of the stator windings. Unfortunately, I cannot give exact values, but it should look something like this: between the common wire (blue) and individual directional wires (black and brown) there should be some resistance value X (e.g. about 50 Ohm), while between the directional wires this value it should be 2X (approximately 100 Ohm). If the differences between these values are significant, i.e. above 5%, it may be necessary to replace the stator. Hope it will help you or maybe others. Best regards.

Its between 60/80 - 120/160

@@flynn995 I checked the resistance of the stator windings in 230V electric motor of FAAC 770N gate drive and the brand new motor had such values: between GRAY-BROWN wires - c.a. 36 Ohms, between GRAY-BLACK wires - c.a. 36 Ohms, between BROWN-BLACK wires - c.a. 72 Ohms.

@@krzysztofwasowski3549 yes you are correct I was thinking of a different motor. On the video I see a mark on the motor caused by the arm indicating that the gate has dropped slightly and the linkage has cut a mark on the motor housing. Possibly too much friction on travel. Has the motor an encoder fitted?

Also there was an issue with the gears ie grinding and the housing was letting in water. I had issue on 1 site where the RCD on fuseboard was tripping yet the ohms readings were correct. The problem was earth leakage. Changing the mains supply from the RCD circuit to non RCD will rectify the power tripping however still indicates a problem within the motor

@@flynn995 This model of the underground operator doesn't have an encoder integrated with the electric motor (as you probably noticed), but it can be equipped with an optional magnetic absolute encoder, called SAFEcoder (P/N: 404035), which typically installs on the output shaft of the drive. To use this type of encoder you must have a FAAC control board (e.g. E045/E045S or E145/E145S) equipped with a "2easy" bus - this is a two-pole block terminal in red colour, which you can find on the control board's PCB. The connection between the encoders and the control board should be made with a shielded, two-core, non-polarized cable with a cross-section of a minimum of 0,5 mm². Of course, after the physical installation of the encoders and after connecting them to the control board, they need to be programmed and configured properly with the use of the board's functions available in the menu. Link to the installation manual of encoders can be found here: we.tl/t-0Yj7Nl6DHt. Regarding the further problem with the operator (I mean described water ingress), I think you should for sure replace the stator of the electric motor as well as the sealing of the housing. If you see any cracks on the top or bottom part of the housing try to repair them or replace complete housing. The exploding drawing of the operator with spare parts list you'll find here: we.tl/t-jUJyp4hmg9. Well, I think that's all for now. Wish you good luck :-) and safe and nice repair. Take care.
