"SHOUT" "MAD WORLD" "CHANGE" "SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE" "WOMAN IN CHAINS"-Featuring Oleta Adams. They discovered her when she was performing in the bar of a hotel they were staying at during an American Tour. She had 2 songs I remember: "GET HERE"- Breakout Hit! "Rhythm Of Life"

This one's my favorite song by them and it's the first time I'm hearing the ending that's not in their music video. It was a pretty big hit back then, maybe not their biggest but still a hit.

I always was a Metal guy growing up and when I was stationed in Germany back in the 80's, started to find out that the music scene in Europe was so different. I found myself enjoying this group along with Thomson Twins, Simply Red, Simple Minds, etc .. It was so ... idk. But this type music is one my Guilty Pleasures. 😎✌🇺🇲

I know what you mean. My dad was stationed in Germany in 88, where we lived until 91 before moving back State-side. The music I heard over there definitely stuck with me . It was an awesome time in my life!🙂

About what you said about the drum sound. This album's drums were done using a Linn LM1 drum machine which was one of the very first fully programmable drum machines on the market. But different from earlier drum machines, the Linn used actual drum sounds which were recorded and sampled. Another famous user of the Linn was Prince who used it to very good effect on his "1999" and "Purple rain" albums, his song "When doves cry" that's the Linn, it has a very identifiable sound.

One of my all-time favorite bands. SO GOOD! Unfortunately, haven't managed to ever see them live. Debut album The Hurting is a killer album: check The Hurting, Mad World, Pale Shelter, Watch Me Bleed, Change The two tracks you've checked are both from Songs From The Big Chair. Their 2nd album: also worth checking are Shout, The Working Hour, I Believe The Seeds Of Love is their 3rd album: Woman In Chains, Bad Man's Song, Sowing The Seeds.., Advice For the Young At Heart, Standing On The Corner Of The Third World, Swords And Knives, Year Of the Knife, Famous Last Words Roland and Curt parted ways after the 3rd album. Roland continued to release music as Tears For Fears. Still awesome. 4th album Elemental: Elemental, Mr.Pessimist, Dog's A Best Friends Dog, Power, Brian Wilson Said 5th album Raoul And The Kings Of Spain: the title track is good. I need to give this album a re-listen, myself. Never paid much attention to it.

Everybody Wants To Rule The World is a great pop song, but its a lot less bold in what its trying to do musically. That's more Tears For Fears saying we're going to give you exactly what your ear wants and expects out of this song. But this song is far more bold in its choices and I think its the far more interesting piece. But its still tightly composed enough to have been a big pop hit, which is really impressive. I love how they open the song up in C lydian, which is something you don't hear in pop very often at all. And then they give you a nice key shfit in to A for the verses with some add9 chords. Just some really cool stuff. And as you said, all the little touches they add with the vocals and the synth and guitar arrangement just really make so many little sections of this song pop: the song is just always interesting to listen to at any given part. Love the bass work too - great tone and meshes with the drums really nicely. The transition at the end is awesome too. Its actually calling back to the previous track on this album broken which sets up this song and leads into it. So you can kind of think of them as one big song and listen to them back to back. With those two tracks you essentially get a fusion/prog track on a pop album; its awesome.
