Great reaction to Tears For Fears masterpiece. They put more ideas, hooks and feeling into this one song than most bands can manage in a whole album.

Loved your comments. I was 15 when this song came out, I'm 55 now. This song is as great now as it was now. It's great that you recognize the difference from today's music. You said it perfectly, the effort that is put into the performances, the better vocals, lyrics, and because these just are real musicians. Keep up the great work!

It's the 80s Reverb and use of Synthesizer that was seen as futuristic.... in some ways it does still. 80s rock was a time of great innovation and creativity. New technologies, musicians were able to experiment with new sounds and create some of the most iconic tracks of all time. Tears for Fears - were New Wave. The 80s were a time when genres started merging and mutating. There were many different genres in the Rock era: New wave, post-punk, synthpop, indie rock, college rock, glam punk, alternative rock, power pop.... and of course the girl bands, big hair, hair metal to thrash metal. Rock ballads as each big group did a ballad or two that were hits. Some of it course started in the 70s and took off in the 80s. Styles like the 60s and 70s before had new trends for the 80s.

What an absolute joy this song is. Makes me want to jump up & down along with it! Let out all your frustration. Its almost psychiatric, psychedelic. How i wish there was a time machine. I would love to have joined that group at the end. I am 56 now. Recently saw your reaction to everybody wants to rule the world. So down to earth & from the heart. As they say your face is a reflection of your heart.

The 80's is a great example of creativity being the leader. Yes, it sometimes got suffocated by the pressures of the record companies but still. Quality stands the test of time very much like the stiff hairdo of Orzabal so iconic of the era and of youthful experimentation.

I just found your channel. Great reaction. I love watching people discover and better yet - enjoy and appreciate music for the 70's & 80's. Any music really, where the music is a product of the artists' skills, talents and passion. I could suggest 100 songs, so it's hard to find just one.. please consider reacting to an REO Speedwagon song called 'Roll With The Changes'. Have a great day!

This is such a classic. Brings back great memories. I feel so fortunate to have been a teen in the UK in the 1980s with so much fantastic music, and it's great to see it being appreciated decades later by the following generations! You're completely right about how unique the 80s sound was (but maybe I'm biased!) Tears For Fears are definitely work checking out more if you like this sound. "Everybody Wants to Rule The World" was their other big hit, but there are also "Head Over Heels", "Woman in Chains", "Break It Down Again", "Sowing the Seeds of Love", "Pale Shelter" and "Raoul and the Kings of Spain", and those are just my personal favourites. Just discovered your channel and I'm enjoying your genuine, natural reactions to the music review, and that you already have a really eclectic, varied selection of songs you've reviewed so far.

First album I ever bought was Songs From The Big Chair and it was because I loved this song the moment it came out. Particularly carried away (as you say) by Roland Orzabal's passion. He was chief writer and singer in the band although most will remember Curt for his looks and he was often the face of the band but I always loved Roland.

Back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, music was much different. The 60s and 80s are similar due to the incredible level of fresh sounds and unprecedented creativity. During each decade, the music was eclectic and no one sounded like anyone else. Each artist was unique creating their own sound and style of delivery. The punk movement which began around the mid 70s in England had a huge impact on the industry. Out of punk, came New Wave and the "Romantic Movement", of the era. It was during the 80s where you witnessed the second wave of what would be deemed as the "second British invasion", with groups like "Tears for Fears", "The Police", "Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry)", "Psychodelic Furs", "Gary Numan" and so many others, burning up the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

Both members of TFF were treated, lets just say not great as kids, and these songs are a reflection on their unhappy childhood, hence the emotion he puts in to it. Really need to listen to the first album called 'The Hurting' which explains a lot about it. However, 'Shout' is actually on their second album.

I liked your response and reaction. The thing I really love about the first 2 TFF's albums is you can't source their musical influences. This song in particular is very unique. I know their next 2 albums were heavily influenced by the Beatles, but "The Hurting" and "Songs from the Big Chair" are both in a class of their own.

Summed up perfectly. I was a youth at this time in England and it was epic. Anyone around then will miss those days so much. And i agree with what you say about modern music and i think a lot of the blame goes on these 'talent' shows were music has been reduced to a pretty boy/girl contest and not an art form and every modern show is basically just about shifting as much merch as possible and cashing in before the fad dies off and i really doubt that in 40 years time people will be looking back on today's music and find it relatable. I dont listen to any modern music and not just became I'm old and nostalgic for the 80s it's because it just doesn't do anything for me. They are more models and actors than genuine musicians and that's a real pity. Id love to be able to hear some really good modern fresh music but it all sounds so fake and forced to my ears and auto tune etc has dehumanised it and they all seem to sound the same. And something i often hear said is 'this could be released today and would still stand up' etc. and they say that as a compliment when really it's an insult. But the smarter youth of today are starting to see all this themselves now, like my 18 year old daughter who loves 80s music and i hope theres a backlash coming against all this over hyped mediocre at best modern music and those young ppl who see this will start to take music forwards by taking it back again and out of the hands of these tasteless talent show judges who have killed creativity and just want puppets and have the worst taste of all. And i think eventually it is bound to happen. Everything you said was 100% and you are wise beyond your years. So there is hope left.
