Hate on him all you want, but as a event technician, i can tell u he is absolutly right. The stuff he says is basic knowledge i learned in school, he even broked it more down so that everyone can understand it. For example, he talked about left right and back, like using a reverb to put sound more into the back. That is basic. More Advanced is that using a compressor puts sound more into the front, sound with highs is more up, muddy or with more bass is more down. So it is not just stereo left right, to listen is a 3 dimensional thing, left right, front back, up down.
He makes the highest quality filler / mostly forgettable tracks / DJ tools out there. And for that I can't thank him enough. Too many producers are just trying to make Beatport #1 sellers and / or peak hour bangers. Not enough people are thinking about what TOOLS DJs need in their set lists so they can work.
I actually like it how cocky and snobby he comes across. I’m well entertained. The background tracks sound absolutely brilliant btw, the sound is actually superior.
I have watched this video a couple of times now. He is undoubtedly knowledgeable, talented, and has a shit load of money to burn, but how about some fucking humility?!?! 🙄

Durch seine riesige Masse an Geräten und deren Preise hat er ein wenig vergessen worum es geht. An vielen Stellen redet er sich das alles bedeutend schöner als es ist. Äußerst unsympathisch der Typ.
Der Herr Neumann besitzt einfach eine professionelle Sichtweise und kommt nunmal aus der Tontechniker Ecke. Dazu plaudert er auch noch aus dem Nähkästchen, als unsympathisch empfinde ich das nicht....

He's not an artist he's just an over the top sophisticated sound engineer who thinks he is the benchmark of everything! Pfff...
Ich höre dir nicht genre zu, was du zu sagen hast stimmt! ABER schaut ein Anfänger dieses Video bringst du ihn damit BESTIMMT in seiner Motivation und in seinem Selbstbewusstsein gegen über Musik zurück!!! Wen du über deine Shintis redest sehe ich ein Lächeln was dich unter anderen hervorhebt, was wiederum auch nicht der sin von Musik ist ABER ABER ABER, damit will ich nicht sagen das dein Sound nicht meine Musik ist den ich höre ihn gerne. Julian, ist zwar schon ewig her das Du geschrieben hast…aber finde das überhaupt nicht so, das „Anfänger“ demotiviert werden könnten. Ich wäre doch froh wenn ich gleich mal gezeigt bekomme wie man es eben richtig macht. Das heisst ja auch nicht das man alles braucht was Tobi da an Maschinen stehen hat…das ist halt Tobis Welt. Man sollte das Interview und gezeigte hier als wunderbare Inspiration für seinen eigenen Weg nehmen ✌️ An der Stelle gleich mal einen Dank an Tobi (10 Jahre später 😆) ✨👍
Er drückt sich leider etwas unsympathisch aus, da er sehr verurteilend argumentiert. Bspw. dass man gefälligst Ahnung von Musik haben sollte, um zu produzieren. Dabei ist es erstens völlig klar dass es eben besser klingt wenn man weiß was man tut und zweitens ist "Harmonie" auch nicht das Maß aller Dinge. Wenn jemand Musik macht die eher meinem Geschmack entspricht als seine, ist die eben für mich subjektiv wieder besser. Und Gitarre spielen muss man genauso lernen wie techn produzieren.. Naja und so weiter, wollte nur seine etwas entmutigenden Aussagen relativieren. :) waren aber gute Tipps dabei!
Es sollte dennoch der Anspruch an einen selbst sein sich an Eckpfeilern der Musiktheorie, z.B. in der Harmonielehre zu bilden. Musiktheorie ist wie Französisch. Wenn man die Sprache versteht und sprechen kann, fällt es einem wesentlich leichter das auszudrücken was man wirklich fühlt!
So much crap is being told in this interview.... "You don't need good acoustics and good speakers, because then you don't know how it sounds on crappy speakers." Guess what? If your purpose of mixing is to make it sound good on crappy speakers, then it will ONLY sound good on those, wheres with a good pair of monitors, it will sound as good as the best speakers, and the guys who is listening on crappy speakers, will need to go buy some better speakers.
I think you missunderstood him. He said that it is important to listent it on DIFFERENT kind of speakers, as everyspeaker shapes the sound in a different colour. And to make the best out of it it has to sound good on many speaker. (small speaker =/= cheap, low quality speaker) and the ns10 are just perfect as they are as close as it gets to neutral industry standart
+Leave The World Behind I just listened to your tracks, what monitors are you using? He said acoustics are important. He literally said the acoustics of the room are the most important thing to sort first.
riesen Gequatsche und Gefrickel um ganz wenig Musik...... Da hilft die tollste Theorie nix, wenn man am Ende das Ergebniss in der Hälfte der Zeit aus dem Bauch heraus entstehen lassen hätte können.
