Arco was tired of reaching for his welding magnets and having them be full of metal shavings? How do you get the those steel shavings out of a magnet?
In a previous video he asked for tips how to clean welding magnets. He was blessed with many responses and the one he decided to try was cleaning the magnets with the air compressor. Who knew that cleaning the metal shavings out of the magnets would be so easy!?!? Thank you to all of the subscribers that helped with this, it was awesome to see so many responses and even now the suggestions in the comments.
If you have more ideas, feel free to comment, also subscribe for more tech tips and badassery!!

I do the exact same thing blowing them off with compressed air. Works like a champ, but I blow them off out the back door of my shop in the grass. I also had the unique experience of having lightning hit the ground very close to my shop. *** BOOM *** Now _EVERYTHING_ in my shop is now magnetized, wrenches, hammers, whatever, if it's ferrous, it's now a magnet and they all grow those nice little beards just like my welding magnets. For me, it was a matter of necessity to find the best method to clean them off. Air is the solution my friend.

@Hellsong89

Been cleaning metal crap from yard with that method. Neodymium magnet from broken subwoofer into bag made from abrasion resistant fabric, stomp it on the ground, collect the metal bits and then pull the bag out. There are those stick versions of those, but the stock magnets were absolute shite, so i took a apart few broken hard drives and stick neodymium magnets to addition of the stock on and there was huge force increase, just need to drill out rivets to open the damn thing to do this upgrade and even after that sub in the bag is still more powerful.

That is the same colour identification paint I used on all my tools for 40+ years, until the only maker discontinued that colour and I had to pick different and spot paint every single tool over again. Then a few weeks ago my son decided to clean up my garage for me. He buffed all the paint off all my tools back to clean and new. I get used to it... lol. Thanks for vids.

@Outlaw Edge Air works good to clean magnets. I usually do it over a garbage can. Then again the fragments probably just fly back out anyway. I laughed at thinking about all the magnetic shards on the floor picking up tinier magnetic shards and sticking together or to the steel table.

@@aaroncook4121 Why the hell would you weld so close to them any way. These things are just to hold materials in place. Plus a box of ziplocks is only $2. Why you cryin? Can't you afford less than 10 cents a bag to keep your tools clean? Oh and sorry if I actually have room to move around my shop, most of my mags stay with the table others are stuck to the steel beams at each welding station, in case my guys need more.

To clean mine I use a decent size earth magnet that I wrap in paper towel. I run the earth magnet around my welding magnet and it takes all the metal dust onto itself. I then unwrap the paper towel over a trash can with the dust facing down and pull my earth magnet out of the towel. Dust goes in the trash can and my magnets are now clean.

I’m a roofing contractor and when our 5/16 nut drivers get debris inside them that keep the magnets from holding the screws we use this stuff that goes between metal roof panels, butyl tape, we take a little piece of it and shove it in the nut driver and when you pull it out it comes out with all the little crap that’s in there and there you go it’s like new. I’m saying this because that’s what I used on my welding magnets to get those beards off and you’re not blowing that all over the shop.

Store your magnets in a zip lock bag. This way the bag collects the metal on the outside and when you pull the magnetic out of the bag, the bag pulls all the metal off. Be careful wiping you fingers down the side of the magnetic with the metal fuzzy beard. You could get metal slivers in your fingers. Great tip on the air gun.

Reminded me of my habit of sticking work orders on my jobs with a welding magnet, imagine my shop manager's surprise when he saw my w/o on the bedside of a new F-150, hanging there with a magnet. He goes, "I thought these were all aluminum bodies?" My reply, Yeah, they are, that's an aluminum magnet, as I pull the magnet off and stick it on again a few inches away. He goes, "Oh...ok." (unseen steel plate I taped to the back side of the panel...) I'm goin' to hell, ain't I?
