Beautifully explained. I was just having this discussion with one of other instructors about the very thing. You explained the movements in a very simple and elegant way. Thank you.
Your analysis is all-right but the truth is that there are so many other very important things going on other than what you talk about and because these things are missing the analysis fails to explain, it is still impossible to understand the carved turns....
Your expert movement analysis skills are undermined by your lack of knowledge of the criteria the athlete's turns are judged on. Learn the criteria that participants of the Japanese Technical Championships are judged and then try again. You cannot judge someone unless you know what they are trying to achieve.
Wow, you make it complicated. Don't you realize that he moves inside at the beginning simply to stay balanced and centered, keeping up with his skis... Go when you are going....
I mean hes a very good skier but im baffled by how people are so blown away by this... hes just carving. ive been skiing since i was 3 years old and now im 31. maybe that is why im not so impressed? still just a week or two a year.
One man's "treat " another's white bread. I call this stuff ski porn. I love it. Dream about it and fantasize about making turns like Paul. BTW, I am 70, fomerer full-time ski coach and mediocre ski racer. But I can yodel
