Hey Ihor, thank you for all your content! just by watching a couple of your videos, I've learnt more from my modules than reading it in the manuals. It's the creative factor and the way you explain things that makes it clear how patches work, keep it grooving man!
Another great video! I use the first 4 mults for clock and the second 4 for reset so you can reset both Steppy and Mimetic to create a consistent track when you start and stop the Digitakt.
Manis is by far the most versatile oscillator for the palette case, especially with it's built in filter. Plus you have polaris, M8, and even some fourth filtering coming from Ruina. Nice set up and super flexible in such a small case.
Superb! Love the texture and dirt of this one. - Wasn't very familiar with the Manis Iteritas, but it seems to offer much more sonic scope than the BIA. love to ALL, feel no hate
While this is perhaps a little too gritty & industrial for my tastes, the technique of using CV's from a randomly generated sequencer to rhythmically modulate stuff is really cool. Would be interesting to try this same technique on a less aggressive source, or modulating other parameters in the chain.
It is absolutely doable! I agree that this one is a bit too hard. Rhythmic modulation works great on many sound sources. I was playing with a wavetable oscillator the other day and it is dope! Try also to go gently on the modulation, via an attenuator for example.
sounds cool. suggestion: if you are orientating the case like that, perhaps reverse the order of the 3U modules...?... so that the oscillators are to your right, filters/fx/output to the left..?
Hey! Thanks for your suggestion. I thought about it, but the problem is that MIDI and Stereo Out modules connect to the Palette case about where they are now. There is short cable to do this job. So it is very limited where you can put those modules in.
Hahaha! My modular system just keeps changing! Usually I list the standing out modules in the description, check them out! In this video 3U modules: Mimetic Digitalis, Manis Iteritas, Lapsus Os, ochd, Polaris, MUM M8, Imitor Versio. 1U modules: Stereo Out, MIDI, Steppy, Dual VCA, USB power.
As always Top Notch ihor, why two Filters??? I’ve had DT few weeks but haven’t started on it yet which is not very clear on info as how to start,????do I have to open New Project to start practicing or just hit Factory drum samples, then sequence as I might like something and want to save??? Again many thanks for your advice, your friend Martin👍🆒🎶🎶🎶👋🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hey Martin! Thanks for watching! Why two filters? So, technically it was 3 actually. Manis has its own built in filter. Also I used Polaris as a phaser. It is all for sound shaping. For me more filters better. For the Digitakt I'd recommend reading the Digitakt Quick Guide. It covers all the basics and helps you to get started!
Tough one… I can’t give up on BIA because of drums. Neither can I give up on MI because of bass. I guess if I was in a situation to choose I’d go for BIA. Just because I could use another synth voice for bassline.
Hey Ihor, Maybe you can help. I make a lot of techno, have been for about 12 years. I really would like to get into modular, can you recommend a good intermediate setup? I was thinking a intelligel setup like yours. Could I get something like erica synths modules, and use it in the intelligel case? Great video 👍🏻
Hey! Thanks for your kind words! It is going to be quite hard to recommend anything from the modular world, to be honest. I would love to, but it really depends on what are you trying to achieve with it. My approach is a little bit different from having a "modular system". I've never even owned a big system. I own some number of modules and then I build a little system for some particular experiment or sound exploration. And I change stuff almost daily. However there is a ton of other approaches to it. My first recommendation tho will be simple: try to figure out exactly what you need, then get a little bit more. Maybe to start with you can try VCV Rack, which is a digital emulation of a modular synth, and it is free. Grab simple Oscillators, Filters, Envelopes, LFOs, Sequencers and try them out there. This one can really help you to make decisions. Or it might be your tool just as is. I will be more than happy to answer your questions if you got some.
Awesome vid as per usual! One question if you don't mind, your Digitakt looks as if it only sends clock when it is playing, how did you set this up? Mine always sends clock, meaning the midi 1u always receives clock and advances any sequencers synced to this even when digitakt is stopped.
Hey Alex! Thanks for watching! On your question. DT sends clock and (so called) transport via MIDI to MIDI 1U. Transport in this situation is RESET or RUN signal. Basically RESET is a pulse that is sent every time you start or stop the sequence. RUN though sends high signal continuously while sequence is running and low when it stops. You could probably see that led next to RST out on MIDI 1U is lit continuously. You can reconfigure your RST out on MIDI 1U to either be RESET or RUN. So if you reconfigure it into RUN you will achieve that. Beware that some modules (for example Metropolix) have to be also configured to receive RUN instead of RESET. Some, like Steppy, do not care. From the MIDI 1U System Manual page 16: RST out - Operates as either a RESET output or a RUN output, depending on how it’s configured in the Intellijel Config app.
