In this video I make a patch from scratch to make percussive sequences featuring Zaps! Zaps is a 24HP percussion synth voice designed for creating organic percussive sequences that can mutate over time. Together with Mimetic Digitalis and a few Versio effects it goes very groovy! Enjoy!

🌍 Hello World! My name is Ihor.
This is my channel where I share my experiences, ideas, reviews and tutorials related to Electronic Music Production. I focus mostly on Techno and House music. In my Studio on my Music Production Desk you will find a variety of different gear like: digital and analog synth, eurorack modular, drum machine, sampler, effect, mixer, guitar pedal, MIDI controller. Also software: DAW, Ableton, VST, plugins.
I am myself an engineer and I am quite obsessed with the Music Technology and Sound Design. I like making music without a computer. I like playing Electronic Music Live with my Minimal Dawless Setup. I love Eurorack Modular Techno and always keen to talk about the modular workflow.
I strongly believe that nothing can be better than a good Dawless Techno Jam!

Happy you expanded on this module. The request for more advanced usage is needed. Powerful module, but no one really expands upon why the other cv inputs on the ZAPs are there and what one can do with them. Definitely Best Zaps yt seen yet! Keep it up! & TY!

You should try out some IME gear. I sold all my NE stuff after getting my first IME oscillator. Now I have mostly IME stuff. The IME oscillators are very powerful and have a weight that I felt was missing from the NE oscillators. They sounded thin to me. I could get along with their wave folders. That’s my opinion at least.

I was actually looking to get sounds like these but I'm still on the fence about eurorack due to costs. I found Glitchmachines Tactic VST does get pretty close to those random like sequences.

So its routable which is extremely open which saves youre presets winter is good at this workflow asset ... openess. I think this overlooked by other hybrid module designers.

Hello Ihor! I would like to start with techno production (groove techno but also hard techno). What kind of devices I need as a beginner? Is a Rytm MK2 enough for everything? Or should I buy different multiple devices? I don't care about the learn curve, I am patient and I know that learning takes time. Thank you in advance.

Well, Rytm can get you covered quite a lot. It has a lot to offer - drum synths, vco synths, samples, sequencer, performance mode, etc. It integrates great with any DAW and can be an extremely useful part of a hybrid workflow. It’s a bit expensive though. Partially you pay for all the analog circuitry in it. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But still there are cheaper alternatives like Syntakt that you can have a look at. What I would recommend is to watch a few different takes on the Rytm or Syntakt on RU-vid. Listen to how it sounds and its character. From the workflow perspective I think any Elektron machine is great!

so zaps is creating that glitchy transistion mainly or is that another module? would like to build something up that doesn't neccesarily require all these modules but get close enough to the same sound. im assuming the zaps module at minimum?

Zaps is the one that creates those glitchy sounds. Other modules sequence it and add effects. To make it very minimal you’ll need at least CV and gate sequencer to make it work 👌

Hard to say, to be honest. Something like Glitch IDM. Electronica has become to broad. I don’t really know what electronica really is. However IDM is the same. Looking for suggestions too!

I think quite the opposite here. Zaps delivers great! Very well designed and thought through percussion-line synth module.
