There are very few out there who can play a guitar like Derek, and there is NO ONE better at playing 'slide' guitar than Derek .. hands down, he's the best !!! 🎸🎶🎷
I'm a 73 year old geezer from London ,whose musical tastes are many and varied, but include D and D and the Allmans and I swear to vodka these guys are keeping me alive.
Yes! If he wanted he could cover the whole Layla album and dare I say would be better Um no..Momentary lapse of reason. His idol Duane made that masterpiece.
@@rubyring9 I'm sure Derek could do a remaster by himself an d a decent rhythm section with or without another lead guitarist. The only problem; a singer along the lines of a Whitlock or Clapton. As they say, anything is possible. I've seen a few videos with him an d Claption doing some of the songs an d they are incredible! Especially "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad. Just an amazing performance by Derek. It's almost like Eric is giving him his throne right there..
Perfectly put. Exactly my thoughts when I saw them. I had seen the Black Crowes in Manchester (uk) a couple of weeks before. They had this elaborate coming on stage routine where the whole band gather around a bar, then a girl puts a record on the jukebox and the band all take up their positions and start to play. Where’s Chris? Lo and behold he comes skipping on from the OPPOSITE side of the stage, like it was a solo show, carrying a coloured Black Crowes parasol. I won’t go into detail about the show, except to say there was very little chemistry in my eyes between Chris and his brother. Anyway, a couple of weeks later I went to see TTB at the same venue. A light came on in a doorway at the back of the stage, Susan strolled through it with the band following her, they picked up their instruments and blew the place up for the next two hours. No showboating, no hogging the spotlight, every single musician just playing their part to make a wonderful whole.
I like his singing too. He was the vocalist for the Derek Trucks Band. When this band formed, he said he was happier being in the back. Don't know if that was a rationalization, but that's what he said.
If you are amazed like me first time hearing this fantastic song, a few years ago, especially by Derek’s soulful solo from 6:45, which all of a sudden takes you from the heart of the US, to India, the country of deep and mysterious music, we probably need to review and remember where this magic is coming from. Derek is a living treasure and the rare product of a great musical foundation which is his great talent, playing in Allman Brothers’ band from very early ages, getting attracted and acquainted with Indian classical music by knowing Ustad (maestro) Ali Akbar Khan, marrying and collaborating with Suzan, a wonderful musician and phenomenal singer, gathering and attracting an exceptional band of amazing musicians and vocalists like irreplaceable Kofi (R.I.P), dedicating his and Suzan’s whole lives on their passion and professional careers, as well as this incredible band. The outcome is one of the best (if not the best) live-performing music bands on the planet! Music is not a hobby or fun for these guys, it’s their whole existence. One can tell by taking a closer look into their eyes, and realizing how serious these wonderful musicians are when performing on the stage. It’s not about money, it’s not about fame, or anything like that. It’s about a pure and divine thing called MUSIC! 👏🏼🌺💐
Highly highly highly recommend seeing this band live. From Susan's southern soulful queen voice, to Derek's kinglike slide guitar playing, to the entire band feeding off of each other for jams like this. They all are extremely gifted at everything they play.
Listening to this on my way to work, eyes welling up with tears, and really didn’t care if I showed up a few minutes late. Had to keep rewinding. Simply unbelievable. Very few musicians have such ability to draw tears from my eyes. Derek is one of the few.
The thing is this, you can wow at Derek's soloing. and it is 1000% justified, the guy is an eternal. But his solo, from 7:00-9:30, is so powerful in large part because the band is just f-ing amazing. The constant counterpoint and build that group maintains is just, well, transcendent...i.e., "beyond words".
Amen. The soloism, the one-manism-what would it be without the band, we the people. I always think of Brecht's "A Worker Reads History" when I find myself, too, mesmerized by the amazing genius, the exception, the soloist.
@@MD-rp9nc The complexity and cohesiveness of their performances truly amazes me. DT has to be one of the best, if not the best guitarists I have ever heard. There just aren't enough good things that I can say about their music. Derek is an absolute giant and his solos set my spirit free.
I love her little squeaky mouse voice and then she simply lets er rip balls to the wall just so great!!!! Saw her cover I pity the Fool and destroyed the place.......
Derek Trucks is just amazing. Probably one of the best guitar players ever, in my opinion. This band is a must see if you haven't, they are all amazing musicians!
I'm late to this party...finally checked them out. OMG...I can feel a deep dive, binge obsession about to happen. What is life without MUSIC?. Here I go "Truckin". Let me know your favorite. I'm all in.
I saw Derrick for the 1st time at Camp Creek 2000 and have been an Uber fan since, then he married Susan and the rest has been a blessing to whoever has been lucky enough to hear the music 😂
This band is as good as it gets. Mr Trucks's playing is transcendental in the best possible meaning of that word - brings me to tears of exultation. I walk back into the world a better person for having heard his take on music. Thank you Tedeschi Trucks Band, thank you.
Everything that I love about this band was front and center here. Great groove. Upbeat. A very short pull back before making it drive again. Dynamics! Those now iconic Tedeschi vocals and very inspired and intense lead guitar solos from Derek. His playing style is legendary and really on fire here. Every individual member is adding something separately strong to make THAT SOUND! Just amazing and a great example of American music at its finest. You can't really call it jazz or blues or rock or Gospel in any standard formula way. It's just unique and just great American music. There used to be so many bands around ... once upon a time ... where you were so impressed that you made the effort to learn the names of the band members who were performing each part. It's a lot harder for me to find that these days, but this band stands out as one of those bands. Lots of well earned credibility here.
@@kynyrdskynyrd I definitely hear some Duane Allman influence and Derek carries that torch better than anyone while still bringing his own identity to it.
RIP Kofi Burbridge (here on keyboards), multi-instrumentalist of brother & bass player Oteil, whom Derek Trucks called "Our secret weapon and Supreme Badass". He will be missed!
Oh boy. What I wouldn't give to be in that crowd right now. I dream of when we can be so close to the band again that we can feel the sweat spraying off of them.
I am from Paris France. Everything they play sounds so great ! Such a band ! Stay unite and keep on playing and singing with such passion. You're all amazing !!!
Soul is hard to define - try to pick it apart and you will get lost. It comes in all human colors and sizes and covers all genres of music. All I can tell you is that every single musician in this band has it... in spades. One of the best units alive, and you can take that to the bank.
Something happens to my soul at about the 7:30 mark when he drops down & synchs up with the horns, on that low G, and starts that dizzying crescendo. I can’t get enough of this version.
I never heard of these people until youtube took me here, it's like the Allman brothers, and Sheryl Crow meets Derek and the Dominos! What a wonderful sound. Carry on!
Derek is one of the few players where every show you watch, he'll get an ovation almost after every solo he plays. That happens 3 times during this song.
I will be at both the Brussels and Amsterdam shows. It should be epic. I saw them live 3 times last year, in New Orleans (Jazzfest) then at the Holland International Blues Festival then again in Hamburg. The hottest live act around right now.
You are lucky, they are fun to see live, very professional musicians. Nobody tries to HOG the stage, and the incorporation of the flute into Rock music takes some special talents. Have a wonderful time, certainly you will love it.
Derek Trucks' music speaks for itself. He could wear whatever the hell he wants and not lose a shred of credibility. But that's just my opinion... (which is better than yours)
Isolating at home....first time ever for this group....I hear so much Allman Bros...multi drum ...multi killer guitars....they are really good....get this over with they're on the gotta see list!!
@thirty2wins = Yep, you will not be disappointed ~ This video is just a sample... but once the whole jugga juice starts flowin'... You gonna go crazy!! :D It'll be worth the wait ;)
Sad to say, I live just a few blocks from the Fox in Oakland, but I didn't make it! Can't remember if the funds were too low or what. But, I did see them a few years ago at the Nob Hill Auditorium in S.F. ! When I arrived, I met a woman in front of the venue who said that she heard there was a rumor that Carlos Santana was going to sit in! Got to a point in the show, and out he comes! Smoking songs with Derek and Carlos dialoging with musical notes 🎵 A night to remember ✨ 💓 Grateful 🙏 for RU-vid, an catch the show now! Long live genuine, inspiring music 🎶
This was a great show the last time for Kofi in Oakland RIP. Who are the 258 people that thumbs down this show. Just makes you scratch your head. They were on FIRE that night.
Well said they play with all their talent try to get better Derrick is a truly great performer he wants to be better for us all .can you imagine how good the children will be creative Ernie Grim from saint Louis Missouri.
We are lucky enough to be watching IN REAL TIME the life of one of, if not the BEST Slide Guitarists to ever live. If there is a heaven then I imagine Duane Allman is sitting on the steps listening to what was a child, has become a man and a great inspiration to us all...
There are many reasons to see TTB perform live. Very many. For those of you putting it off I highly recommend you rethink that. For one, this isn't a band on a legacy tour. This is a band in it's artistic and conceptual prime. Maybe even before they're prime. They keep evolving and growing musically and this band is all about the music. Seriously, go see them. Once won't be enough. It's a lot to take in the first time. They have so much going on musically. That and Derek's guitar playing. I ended up focusing on that . Mainly because I heard sounds that I never heard live before. It's one of those things that happens when you know you're seeing one of the greats. IMO It doesn't take long to realize that.
@@gregormiller4037 I imagine "that" you are talking about ending a sentence with "that". In the circumstances he is OK to end a sentence with "That" . I'm a teacher of high school English. Times have changed. While it might grate on some, he is quite at liberty to end the sentences with "that". The concept that sentences can't end with a preposition went out in the dark ages. - and yes I agree with his points about TTB.
We were lucky and honoured to have the TTB band down here in Auckland several years, even meeting Oteil, Derek and Susan at the venue bar (the Power Station) after the show. No pretentions there, just great, yet humble and generous musos, not averse to mingling with the "natives" in their charming low-key manner belying their other-worldly chops. But this Derek and the Dominoes rendition I stumbled on tonight is an absolute and delightful surprise. Knocks my socks off.
How is it that something this good is free? That I can sit on my couch and watch this without paying anything? Mind blowing. Now to catch them live when they’re in town and hear them fill an entire hall with these sweet sounds. Life is so good.
During Derek's big solo at the end, Susan keeps making weird faces. It's almost like she's thinking "How in TF does he do this?" I've watched this video numerous times and I've never noticed this.
Literally. The Greatest. Touring Band. In Existence. Full stop. And, I miss Kofi. RIP. Also, just remember folks, Susan and Derek are two young people's PARENTS. How cool do you wish your parents were? That friends, is a high f-ing bar.
