As a mom of a senior, I have watched Nicole the last couple of years. For those saying "whats the big deal"... it shows that even kids that are high profile, youtube famous, seem to have it all going for them, they get rejected too. We all realize tons of kids get rejected, but to show this side publicly, is a good relatable thing. There are alot of kids who watch her, who might feel a little bit better knowing even people they may look up to, get rejected. And that its ok to have those feelings, and not be embarrased. This is a good thing people ❤

I'm a mom of a son who was rejected by his dream school. I feel so sad for all of these seniors who have worked so hard to only be rejected. My son has a perfect GPA, super active in school, has HUGE accomplishments in high school, took Dual and Concurrent Enrollment College classes, all GATE, Honors, and AP classes, and so much more. I always think to myself, what more did they want from him? I'm with Nicole's mom...do they know what they're missing out on?! He's not just an amazing student, but he is a good human! Thankfully he had a choice of really great schools that did accept him and we are excited for his future journey in college! To those students out there who did not get accepted in your dream college: God has a plan and a purpose for you and His plans are perfect. You will be where you're supposed to be and you will succeed! You may not see it now, but you will and you'll look back and say, I get it! ❤

I'm genuinely sorry that your son got rejected by his dream school. We all know that feeling too well. My backups weren't too shabby. In the end, most of us end up working at the same jobs or companies or starting our own. It really doesn't matter where you go to school (for most career paths), it's what you do with the experience and who you meet in life as a result (because I wish someone taught me the importance of networking!) PS. College admissions has become extremely competitive. Unfortunately there's nothing else anyone can do to "stand out" from the crowd except maybe cure cancer because everyone applying to the top schools are already all top notch students. I wish your son and everyone else lots of love and luck in life.

“God has a plan and purpose for you and His plans are perfect.” This is certainly true as your son’s story resonated with my son’s story. In 2017, my son graduated at the top of his class, had 4.0 unweighted GPA and 4.9 weighted GPA, did all the college and AP courses while in high school. By the time he graduated from high school, he already completed two Associate degrees. When he applied to UC Berkeley for BS in Chemistry, he got rejected. He did not dwell on the hurt but moved on quickly to his next choice of university. Fast forward in May 2022, he graduated with honors from a 5-year accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy and BS in Applied Science degree. He passed the Pharmacy boards at the age of 22 and is now thriving in his career in healthcare. God works in mysterious ways, and we give back all the glory to Him. Good luck to your son, and I guarantee that he is going to have a great future ahead of him.

This hits home in many ways. 10 years ago I was a senior in high school and like Colie, UCLA was my dream school. I was rejected and did not take it very well, constantly comparing myself to others on Facebook who were accepted and feeling like the most incompetent student despite actually doing the most I could. At 17 that kind of stuff is very hard to deal with. However, after a lot of retrospection and motivation, 2 years later I apply again from community college and do get accepted :) It was one of the happiest days of my life. 4 years after that I get into my dream company and dream job and that was probably the happiest day of my life. All success comes from rejection, and I think once you know what it feels like to be at the very bottom, it gives you even more impetus to do your best. We don't know what success looks like if we never fail

I applied to UCLA's film program back in the day, which is what I thought I wanted to do. However, I missed the application deadline because someone gave me the wrong info, and I was totally out for a while. Then, I decided to go to SMC for two years and apply again. In those two years, I realized that USC was a much better choice FOR ME and what I wanted to do (that school/program wasn't even on my radar two years prior). So then when I finished college, I applied to both programs and got accepted to both. But I chose USC and I loved it there! I realized that sometimes not getting what you _think_ you want can be a blessing.

You’re very correct and your feelings are very valid. I was rejected from ALL of my dream schools, and after growing up with parental pressures to go to a top school, I was beyond devastated and even developed depression and dark thoughts. I wound up going to a lower-ranked school that offered me a scholarship. I thought I wanted to go to a big business school, but during undergrad I eventually got involved with prelaw organizations and discovered that business was not my passion. Today, I’m a law student at one of the top 20 law schools in the country. Discovering my passion helped me put all of my effort into studying for classes and the LSAT. I wouldn’t be where I am today (happier + way less student debt if I rejected that undergrad scholarship just because of school rank). Rejection is redirection. Keep calm and stay on the grind.

As the mom of a kid who has dreamed of going to a certain school since 7th grade and is currently waitlisted , this video brought me to tears. Their dream becomes our dream for them. And it's hard. We know that there's a reason for everything but it's so hard to see them gutted. For our son, it's the first time he hasn't been able to achieve something he dreamed of. And it's making his senior year so stressful. It's important to remember that it's not where you go, it's what you do when you get there. He's slowly getting excited for his number 2 choice. Good luck to everyone.

Though my situation was different, I was also high achiever in school. When you are used to success, it is very surprising to be told no, or not excel at something. You think of yourself a certain way and it's a blow to the ego. But it's a good lesson and a chance to grow up a bit more. There are so many ways to be successful in adulthood, but when you're younger it's all about high marks and coming first in things.

I would highly recommend reapplying as a transfer if you still are interested in a school that you receive a rejection from. As a high school senior, I was rejected from my dream school but was accepted one week after submitting my application as a transfer the next year. As a transfer, you are a part of a much smaller pool of applicants, which raises your acceptance chances. You also will learn from your mistakes that caused the school to reject you. For example, I learned how to improve my essays from my first application, which had originally not been good examples of my passions and pathways of study. However, don't forget that you do not have to go to your "dream school." There are a multitude of wonderful schools within the US and around the world! You can always find another place that works for you.

@@dy-zz1hc Hi! Thanks for your question. From what I remember, I had to fill out and submit the Common App again as a transfer. The first thing was to select the application for transfers. Then I had to rewrite out all those demographic questions in addition to resubmit letters of recommendation and my personal essays. I just asked my high school teachers that had written letters for my first application as a high school senior to resubmit those same letters (so I resent them the letter submission invitations from the Common App). Basically it just was composed of resubmitting the same information in a copy and paste manner on the Common App (unless there was something that I wanted to change such as my personal essays, like I talked about in the original comment). The school I applied to had a couple different essay questions specifically for the transfer application, so I had to write some new essays anyways. If the school your nephew is applying to doesn't use the Common App, I would imagine it would be the same process of finding the application for transfers and resubmitting a lot of the same info, but maybe needing new essays specifically describing his reasons for applying as a transfer. Let me know if you have any other questions! I'll try to look out for your comment

My case was really odd because I actually got accepted into the "dream school" but quickly realized it was going to be very expensive, so I opted for a cheaper school. Honestly though, I'm very happy with where I'm at now, and I'm so happy Nicole feels the same. Wish this girl the absolute best :)

Same. At the time it was like okay should I go to a private school in Boston for 45k a year (5 year co-op) program or a public university. I went with the cheaper option. My friend went to that school and transferred after two years to the place I went. I know I made the right choice in the end.

*I got a perfect score on my SAT, excel at sports, top in the country in Cross Country and Track & Field, and I got rejected by all the top schools, because I never applied for them, LOL. even as a viewer of nicole, i don’t think i’m surprised she didn’t get in. ucla has an 8.6% rate, they’re the most applied to school, and she stopped dance her senior year (which they do look for for dance majors). also, she didn’t really push herself academically in her senior year

As Malcolm Gladwell said in his book Outliers: You're better off being a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. He specifically extrapolates on this topic of kids getting rejected by high-prestige universities and then flourishing at less-esteemed ones, and then leading successful careers. Whereas, many kids in the high-prestige universities struggle to get by and subsquently have lackluster careers.
