Teen Truck Driver!!! Montana Farming 2022
In today's video, I am driving our tandem semi-truck full of wheat to the commercial grain elevator to sell it. I hope I don't scare my Dad too much this time!!! hahaha We load the wheat onto the truck from our grain bin with our grain auger and John Deere tractor. This is the first truck I learned to drive on our Montana farm. This is also the truck I stalled out hauling barley to the Canadian Boarder grain elevator. Dad definitely does not want me to stall it out again and you can see why if you watch that video. I am getting better at tarping the load of grain, but it is still challenging for me! Dad is a bit more relaxed in this video and I am grateful he is my instructor and I am learning a lot. Thank you for watching!!!!!!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

I'm a stay at home Dad my wife is in owner operator Independent truck driver, all by herself she nets about $213,000 a year I went to a prestigious 4-year college and with my degree I could barely break 85,000! and I'm still paying off student loans, so you go girl because there's a shortage of 400,000 CDL drivers in the United States and trust me companies will give you whatever you want to come work for them!

I'll add, as a father and business owner, that gruffness is being firm which also manifests itself as being serious, grumpiness is because of the weight on his shoulders from everything related to work and family. Same feeling you would get being on a tight rope walking across The Grand Canyon. ;)

I watch a lot of farming channels and I believe that I have just found my favorite one. Kate is AWESOME, FEARLESS and GORGEOUS. Her dad and granddad are really cool too. But one of the best things that I love about this channel is that when Kate is in the combine, plane, tractor, or truck. Her videos just pull you right in. @@KatesAg , I'm 60 now. My dad taught me how to drive a semi when I was 18. It was about 10 days of doing everything wrong. Haaaa. I remember the " turn, turn ,turn ,that your dad said to you, made me laugh! Theres ALOT to know when driving 80,000 lbs. Yeah, Kate- great to see you crushing it! - I did both those tasks in my early teens - side unloading the harvester on the go at 13 Years old - took a 16-ton grain rig on the road to the local flour mill @ 16. So much tech in the tractor cabs today. More power to you.

Great job Kate. I love your Dad's teaching style... He says what needs to be said quickly and without worrying if he is phrasing things in an encouraging tone so it won't hurt someone's feelings. He's firm but consistent and he's not yelling "AT" her or really even yelling. Basically he knows his daughter and how to get her attention without being a dick. He gives clear instructions but he's not belittling her or making fun of her. You can actually tell they have a close relationship.

As a doting uncle, I was a little hard on my favorite niece when teaching her how to drive a standard shift...as in "turn...turn,turnturn!...or brake...brakebrakebrake! Turns out my teaching paid off. She's a good driver now. I realized when I visited her in Seattle that she knew perfectly well what she was doing. Any worries I had melted away. Like me, I think your father will have nothing to worry about when you're operating all those heavy machines by yourself eventually. Good job!

But what makes you an exceptional human is your dedication to farming, the passion and pride you have for sharing it with consumers who never get to see this end of the food they eat, your absolute thirst for learning and pride you show in all the gains you’ve made over the years, and especially the beautiful relationship you have with your father. As others have noted already ,your dad has definitely become less tense with you at the wheel . His guidance and your skill will help you to continue to improve and soon you'll be driving solo for these trips. The tarp rolling will also improve with practice , and you'll learn little tricks that work for you ( height disadvantage ) to aid with the process. It seems mean to watch , but the fact he doesn't simply jump in and take over ,gives you the opportunity to develop your own technique for success. Love the last line " Ok , back to your truck , lets go !! " Slave driver LOL .

right on Young Lady, My grandfather owned David Transportation Plantsville Connecticut, my dad worked there since he was a kid as I was dragged to work with my dad on occasions during summer time, 10 years old pulling Pole an Extendable Trailers around the lot with a 1963 B Model Mack, 290 Cummings an Quad Box, by the time I turn 16, hadn't even had a license yet pulling those trailers to the Steel Yard, busted down 5 to 10 Split Rim Tires a day to keep up with spares. Been a long dusty trail :)

Great video. I enjoyed the father daughter interactions, and showcasing the skills you've learned through your family business. I'm a 33 year old man and can hardly back a trailer over twelve feet. It's not in my wheelhouse given my profession and small livestock based farm. My darling wife has always been the better driver, with or without trailers because of her experience hauling racecars and boats to and fro throughout her childhood. Be sure to tell your Daddy he's done a fine job. He seems mild mannered and wise, as we all should be. It looks to me like he raised a tough young lady like my dear wife. It gives me hope that my sons might be as fortunate as I, later in life, and find their own perfect partner.

Don’t sell yourself short you’ve got this in the bag plus I like how courteous you are to the other drivers. Your dad looked like he was a true passenger today his confidence in you is growing. Great driving Kate. You have developed the habit of making your sweeps over the gauges without being distracted, and your dad doesn’t seem in fear for his life now. I love all of my children equally, but sons and daughters are different. My boys are perfect gentleman and little angels for their mom, she is the queen to them, but with me, they pester one another, flick each other on the forehead, fart on each other and generally just be boys. My girls are daddy’s girls. They bicker and whine around their mom, and when they are with me they act as if it’s a special event and are perfectly perfect. I think moms and dads are both very important. It’s so great seeing you with your dad.

You’re doing great. My wife drives HER tractor with a hopper bottom trailer. She’s been driving a semi for about 30 years. Most of us take our driver’s test in a car. She drove her dad’s 2 ton Chevrolet. Keep it up. Good drivers and family farming are dying breeds.

I’m sorry for not being on here lately. We had a tornado go through our town on May 22, 2022.
