J-pop isn't as popular as K-pop is bc the former doesn't need to expand since they already make it big in their own country (Japan has the 2nd biggest music market industry in the world, after USA) while K-pop needs to expand since they don't make much in their own country.

My love for J-pop first started with Halcali and escalated into mostly other female groups like Perfume, AKB48 and all their sister groups, Morning Musume, Berryz Koubou, C-ute, Buono, Scandal, Silent Siren, E-Girls including sub units, Momoiro Clover Z, Team Syachihoko, Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku, BABYMETAL, and a bunch of others.

Kirito Araragi I would guess AKB48 has the most fans now of any Japanese group. It will be interesting to see if they will end up being as successful as B'z (who has sold over 80 million records), Mr. Children or even Glay. Btw - I love AKB48 - their videos are amazing, the songs are catchy and they certainly are all cute.

I'm not quite sure but the Westerns I've met are mostly, yes, look older than their actual age while Asians and some of Malay look approximately like/younger than their age. I think it's worthy to note how different the music industry scene is in Korea vs Japan. In Japan, as long as you can be one of three things, you can be in the music industry, etc. 1) Good looking 2) Sing well 3) Dance well. You just have to be one of those things to "make" it in Japan. It's a lot harsher in Korea and US(Sometimes I wonder about the US though) so something like AK would be harder to do.

Perfume unquestionably lip-sync. They are passable singers when they let them, but since it practice, they don't anymore, it doesn't really matter. Perfume is popular because their music is awesome, they dance well, and their looks, imagery and design is all top class. Their singing ability is irrelevant, as they play music over them 30x louder than their mics are. Also, they are good, though probably not amazing, at variety shows. It's a nice addition, but they probably couldn't cut it just as variety regulars.

AirStyles VN While KFC and KNP are closer to what AKB is today, Fine bros used heavy rotation because its a controversial video with sexuality and minors. They wanted to get the best reactions hence the use of the MV. Not to mention they purposely they brought up Mineshigi Minami scandal to get the reactions but they left out the part where Mineshigi shave her head on her own accord, nobody forced her. AKB management would never do anything crazy like head shaving. They have always demoted/graduation as punishment.

It's all J-pop. This video is from January 2015 though... showing Heavy Rotation (2010), Laser Beam (2011) and New Horizon (2014) and so I don't know what you mean by "nowadays". This stuff had already been released before most of those you mentioned even got popular. (2nd group) Exile: 2003 due to viral hit (1st group) Perfume: 2008 (3rd group) AKB: 2010 One OK Rock: ~2011 but a bit more gradual than most Kana Boon: 2013 Oral Cigarettes: 2015 Kenshi Yonezu: 2017 LiSA: 2017... though she had been popular before this it just moved onto a new level King Gnu: 2019 J-pop/J-rock had bands and soloists back in 2010. It STILL has idol groups now. It's ALL J-pop. Something for everybody. Listen to the parts of it you like.
