Social media gives teens new platforms for self-expression, validation and even potential fame - but at what cost?
Today, thanks to the internet, teens are able to connect and engage with their culture, celebrities, movies, brands - in ways never before possible. But is that real empowerment, or do corporations and marketers quietly hold the upper hand? FRONTLINE’s 2014 film explores how the teen quest for identity has migrated to the web, and the possible ramifications for “Generation Like.”

Just thankful I had 28 years before digital slavery kicked in. None of the positives predicted by jolly, liberal academics came to pass, in fact people are less informed than ever due to the dubious quality of the online content. Also, propaganda is at an all time high and only an older person has the experience to recognise what is useful and what isn't.

I was bullied really badly as a kid before social media, but the weirdest thing happened. In 8th grade, everyone went on Facebook but I never got the point so I stayed off and by 9th grade onwards, I was never, not once, ever bullied again. It's almost as if you aren't even worth being a target of bullying if they can't bully you on social media anymore. I'd recommend to kids to stay off and let them target the kids who have profiles instead of you.

I always believe even back in high school kids that bully other kids are usually getting bullied at home seen it 1st hand on frew classmates, usually ye older siblings or parents,!because no one in their right mind would go around bullying people for no reason unless something personal was going on in their life and most of the bullies really don't turn out to be nobody in life anyway !! I went to school with this girl who was a bully real beautiful bck then and today she's a dope head really bad! And one of the boys that everyone picked on he went on to do amazing things making big money ,well I hope things are going well for you today... 🙏 remember nobody really remembers all the assholes from high-school!!! Certainly some do achieve this, yet that's a very small number compared to the many that don't and; therefore experience mental issues like anxiety or depression. Although this has been reported in other videos, the producers could have touched this as awareness in this video.

It's just the internet, wanting to become a RU-vid, Instagram, Twitter star, being superficial and materialistic it's sad- pathetic even. This comment section is so grossly misinformed and alarmist that it's kind of fascinating. Today children have access to more information and positive learning tools than anytime in history. It's 186. Since this video has closed captioning, you don't have to watch the whole thing. Just open the transcript and use the *find box* (Ctrl+F) for the word "like", then count the ones that are coming from the comments section, description, and titles of recommended videos on the side of the page. Subtract that from the total that shows up in the find box and you're done in under 5 minutes. Another way you could do it is by pressing the arrow buttons in the find box and note which number you're on when the first "like" in the transcript is highlighted orange. In my case, the first "like" in the transcript was the 39th "like" loaded on the page. Then keep going with the arrow buttons as before until you find the number of the last "like" in the transcript. In my case, this was the 224th "like" in the transcript. That's 224 minus 38 equals 186. At the time of this comment, the transcript can be opened by clicking the "three dots" button that's next to the share, playlist, and save buttons. It will open to the right of the video, and you may need to scroll through it to make sure the whole thing loads before you try to use Ctrl+F, or else you will get an inaccurate count.
