The arcade however had worse floor texture warping than ps1. This is due to both system 12 was based on psx, which didnt have z buffer to allow perspective correction.
I honestly prefer the flatter backgrounds of the PS1 rendition. They have certainly aged better. Than the subtly low poly textures and geometry of the 3D Arcade backgrounds.
@@Lucky_9705 In fact, the difference is vast in image resolution and quality The PS1, however, isn't powerful enough to handle 3D graphics This is an easy time-saving option that has no value in graphic quality
PS1 version was such an awesome port. Only detraction was the 2D backdrops but extra content and otherwise perfection made up for it. One of my top 5 favorite fighting games of all time.
I don't think it matters too much @ 2d backgrounds because the home version has more content in the form of character endings and other modes. Its something I wish Sega did with their fighters instead of just straight ports
@@WWammyy The main reason is that the PS is less powerful than the System 12, not space. 3D backgrounds don't need much space compared with, for instance, music.
Character size , texture resolution, polygon count were also noticeable reduced from arcade to ps1. Some frames cut here and there, but really hard to notice.
or that you have not realized that it has 4 corners? and tour 'in the same way as the 3d version? it's called 3d anyway,, besides, the arcade version is bad 3d,, it has flat plants in 2d, and flat trees, flat houses, that's not 3d, friend, that's 2d🙄👌🌟
These are almost identical at first glance. In detail, PSX has resolution of textures slightly lower, but the difference is hardly noticeable. PSX have 2D stages, while Arcade is 3D. PSX has a lot more video content and playable. Both versions run at 60fps with excellent graphics, very unusual for the time and for the consoles.
Agree with what you said but if you check closely the backgrounds are more realistic...Meaning they are far but the ps1 version looks like its in a box
+IAt0m1xI PSX has 34MHz, NS12 has 51MHz, the console can not process the same amount of polygons with fewer cycles per second while maintaining the same rate of frames per second. The same with textures, PSX has 50% less of video memory. Namco preferred preserve 60fps instead of the 3D background would surely leave the game at 30fps. It was a wise choice with the resources available. In a frenetic fight 3D backgrounds go unnoticed.
Namco did an absolutely brilliant job disguising all the shortcuts. The backgrounds are 2D on the PS1 version, but you would never know unless you were really looking it.
The only difference between the arcade and PS1 version is the arcade had 3D backgrounds the PS1 2D backgrounds and some animations and lower polygon counts for the characters
it was far from arcade perfect, the differences being reduced graphics quality on the ps2 version, and fewer characters. the ps2 version was more like a beta version
I think you're confused. I've played both the arcade version and the Ps2 version on Tekken 5. Except from the music, both versions are almost identical with the difference being all characters unlocked at the start. The ps1 version was the one with lower quality graphics, but had more characters.
Phenomenal port, just like AM2's port of VF2 from Model 2 to Saturn, except this time from System 12 board to PS1. Namco was at the top of their game (pun intended!) during the PS1 era, IMO. Porting over stuff like Tekken 2 was easier since it ran on System 11, which is bascially a PS1, but they showed that even System 12 was could be handled nearly perfectly by PS1 hardware. Love the 32-bit gen.
If you watch the 3d demo carefully, you can see that the characters on ps1 have slightly less polygons (this is clearly visible at 1:07 on Jin's neck). Mostly it shows in the faces. However, geometry distribution on ps1 is a master class. They even fixed some arcade flaws (e.g. Lei's hands in 1:01)
The backgrounds are flat in the Playstation version and the colors are brighter as opposed to the 3D textures and darker shade in the Arcade version. The other difference is the music, it's remixed by default in the PSX you have to change the settings in the options menu to hear the original versions. The Arcade Tekken 3 had the original music from the start.
The arcade has better Vsync. You can see a bit of screen tearing on the ps1 when the camera moves too quickly. The lighting in the background on the arcade is also a bit better. Still it's nearly identical.
Arcade had higher resolution and just seemed alot more fluid and smoother but it was really close. Loved the dual parallax one the arcade too. I hated the static images on psx
The arcade version has a more brighter & crisper palette, while the PS1 version is more smoother yet a shade darker. And the audio is more in sync (insert pun) on the PS1 version. My true vote: Arcade Version, it played and felt more natural & cause of the 'nostalgia' factor.
At :40 when Nina is throwing Paul, they have individual modeled fingers on the arcade version while the PS version has "gloves" -- BUT whenever a single character appears on screen on the PS version, they have individual fingers. So they're shuffling in different high-res models for the closeups on the PS. Namco is so awesome.
That was pretty awesome that Namco used a fucking awsome! Trick with the 2D backgrounds in which they warped then to still make them stand out in 3D in a way lol
Namco’s System 12 hardware (which Tekken 3 ran on, as well as Soul Calibur and Ehrgeiz) was an overclocked PS1 (about 50% faster) with different sound hardware. The PS1 port had to drop the 3D backgrounds, but makes up for it by introducing more hidden characters, Tekken Force, Tekken Ball, and a selectable, remixed soundtrack.
So....the characters has more polygons and the background is fully 3d on arcade, and even has better textures but, the ps1 port was sick for the year, also in 1999 namco started the development of tag tournament in ps2 and it looked freacking awesome. Almost like the cutcenes
They did a pretty decent job creating the illusion of the backgrounds being the same even though it's textured polygons vs. scaled and rotated bitmaps. Technically the arcade version is doing much more, but ends results are pretty similar. The differences are of next to no detriment in my opinion.
Back in the day i played this in arcade alot , got the ps1 version on import before the uk version ... it was amazing . Very close to the arcade . Carried a huge tv 2 miles home at 16 yrs old to play in colour via scart , worth it 👌 full speed ntsc too
I realised that the hitting, damaging and blocking noises as well as the insert coin (or service) sound effect are pitched higher on the PlayStation port.
No, it is a testament to the fact that both system 11 and system 12 are based on the Playstation hardware, so porting the games to the console was relatively easy
The arcade ost is better, the only thing the arranged soundtrack improved upon was making tracks longer and more diverse. The original tunes were better though.
Damn, I wish the ps1 had been released 1 year later globally (december 1995) with the specs from the System 12. That 50% boost would have made all the difference in the multitude of games that frequently ran @20fps. Some extra memory would have been nice too.
Back when I first saw the arcade, I was totally amazed by this wonderful graphics. Could not believe my eyes... PSX Version surely was great, but seeing the arcade was woooohoooooo
I remember some magazines doubting ps1' s capacity of a fluid an faithful port. Banco actually managed to keep the frame rate and excellent controller response with little losses. Unfortunately soul calibur and ttt converstions were tried , but with no such great results.
It's funny how, at least in my opinion, if you listen to the arcade and console themes of each level concurrently it doesn't sound like jumbled music but rather they complement each other quite nicely.
Damn I was always under the impression that the PS1 port was a 1:1 comparison but when running side by side you can notice the stark differences. Not only were the backgrounds fully 3D modeled with parallax scrolling instead of just a flat image but it seems like the textures overall in the Arcade version are more crisp where has the PS1 looks more blurred or muffled. Either way I think Namco did one hell of a job being able to pull off a 60fps port with only a few corners cut so it could run well on slightly inferior hardware.
For some reason i always preffered the arcade one better because it has both the sky background and the stage backgroung move different ways insteed of staying as one background pic
The only difference I can really tell is the backrounds and in the ps1 version, when i play it,i can faintly see vertical lines and in the arcade version on Tekken 5,you play as Anna by pressing start on Nina ,but she has a different portrait and she has Ninas voice and moves
Marcelo Paris Virguez the arcade versions are always better wtf.. Tekken 7 FR looks incredible good on the arcade compared to what we gonna See on console.. with better i mean graphics are better not the game at all.. i guess console has always more content and stuff Like that so im happy with the console Version ^^
Excellent port. The backdrops were replaced with textures on a cube, but carefully so, so they actually look pretty good. That's certainly 10x better than having 2D backdrops like VF2 Saturn.
I've seen a lot of comments about the 3d backgrounds of the arcade version, but it's not 3D, it's several 2D layers superimposed to give a relief effect and the illusion of 3D. it's the same principle as the background in virtua fighter 2 on saturn of course, it's not a 2D background like tekken 3 psx, but It's easy to see on the arcade version that the scenery shakes and shifts like in virtua fighter 2 saturn, showing that it's not 3D.
so that means that Tekken 5's Arcade history of Tekken 3 is the best way to go then. Tekken 5 has the Arcade versions of Tekken 1 Tekken 2 and Tekken 3.
temannopellaria and more Details in generell.. notice 0:33 the map looks larger and on the floor in the background is Moos what is completly missing in the psx version
I'm still amazed that the Namco system 12 could run soul calibur at a badass resolution, but as everyone knows that the dreamcast "port" was BEYOND arcade perfect
mmm the arcade version of course is better from the graphical point of view, we must explain that the Playstation version is a miracle of conversion made on a console that had a lot of hardware problems especially with regard to RAM, Namco gave an exceptional version of Tekken 3 full of extra content on a console where this game is not an isolated case, several conversions are excellent and make up for the console's hardware limitations with lots of ideas and content.
Its not a miracle port, they just rejected the polygon backrounds and putted an image behind to keep the 60fps in and thats it,the arcade is just an overclocked Playstation. Miracle is Ridge Racer Turbo (that was featured on Ridge Racer 4),original arcade Ridge Racer is vastly superior (System 22) to the original Playstation.
Tekken 3 arcade intro jin kazama is the best intro in video game history..it just soo memories the music the movie the it just perfect... Tekken 3 is the best tekken fighting game ever made in all time.
