Hwoarang used to be my go-to as a kid. I remember being so into him being such a specialist in leg attacks. And I still don't know how to spell his name without checking. Ha! Feels so nostalgic to see these characters.
Hell yea when I was a little fella playing against my cousins in tekken on my psp hwoarang everyday all day was kicking niggas to death 😂 fun ass character
I noticed Jin growth in his trailer he said "Strength isn't everything" where as before in games like t6 he would say "Strength is everything" nice callback to how much he's grown looking forward to there interactions
Jin came to not be this obsessed with his vengeance over the Mishima family, and realized some people were around him in some ways. Hwoarang is one of them, with that Rival Frennemy relationship, so he definitely want to acknowledge it. (also the Anime made them both more friendly rivals so no doubt they capitalizing on that)
@@MrDragonkarp No, he'd say *"power is everything".* And even then, Jin still deserves to die for taking away so many innocent lives during the events of *Tekken 6.*
I like how Hwoarang and Jin seemed to have switched roles in their intro, Jin is more eager to fight and Hwoarang is just laid back about it lol. Cool detail.
Now it is like longer right? Except that the good old ogre (or ancient if you want, even true ) can do the longer version of those kicks. Maybe even heihachi if I recall correct. But in tekken 8 prolly hworang have the longest version of those kick.
Happy to finally see Hwoarang's reveal trailer. He's my favorite Tekken character of all time. I used to give even the best Tekken 3 players a run for their money in the arcade days with him.
Damn he's looking better than ever. Great haircut and I really like how his attitude has matured while still keeping what we love about him. Tekken 8 out here collecting win after win!
I really like how Jin seems a lot more willing to fight Hwoarang this time whereas in the other games, he was too distracted by his family issues to pay him much attention
@@molamola5260 Wrong. No fighting game series has given as much attention to its story and character development than Tekken. Across the series, decades have passed and characters have changed and even died. Each Tekken 8 character reveal trailer we've gotten has contained details that indicate ways in which characters have grown.
@@molamola5260 You must be fun at party's. Characters like Kratos, Vegeta, Zorro from One-piece and so on don't deserve to be celebrated then because they don't exist in real life? What a great way of being
The outfit is so bland and he’s so roided out now I feel crazy reading people hype this redesign up when he looks like a generic martial artist now. He’s lost his edge and sense of style
@@possiblymaybe6711 yeah i agree his muscles are so insanely large and weird and he has a basic taekwondo outfit, the latter im fine with but the muscles are so fkin weird
@@possiblymaybe6711his entire outfit is Tekken lore. Not only has he surpassed Baek in rank but I believe he is wearing his name on his outfit to represent. Badass.
Ya girl was maining Hwoarang back in the Tekken 3 days and he was a beast then. He's even better now. He's always been my favorite fighter in the game, his legs go on for days and when they land woooooo...
He is a Korean voice actor, ‘Um Sang-Hyun’. He is one of the famous voice actors in Korea. He is also famous as the voice actor of Sonic the Hedgehog in Korea
@@OV_POTG_CH Thanks for the interesting information about this Korean actor! Now I love it doubly because of the hedgehog Sonic and Hwarang! Sorry for my broken English!❤😊
I kinda miss the old voice though. His tekken 3 voice was thesame guy that voiced 4th hokage, Leon Kennedy in RE2 remake Japanese voice and ryu from street fighter alpha 3
I have the hugest smile on my face, not because he’s my main or anything, but because he’s come along way. I remember his Tekken 3 design and being a kid. We grow up with these characters and they are like apart of us.
Ikr? I've loved him as a kid and mastered all his moves and combos as I grew up, till Tekken7. Seeing his new design and new moves is like seeing our Tekken life's main character get a character development and I cannot wait to master them all as well.
honestly 99% of the time i'd call a comment like this cringe but youre actually right. He's turned into an insane badass like all the other characters when he was in the earlier tekkens. It's super cool to see the team actually appreciate the details of this franchise and make DOPE stuff
and nobody noticed the shout out that Hwoarang makes to Juri 😉(same entrance like Juri, both Korean citizens. It says a lot, ). a possible Street fighter X Tekken 2 or Tekken vs Street fighter in the future?🤔
I was thinking the same thing! Tekken 3 was the first tekken I really learned. He was my main then (I main Kaz after 4) but this may be what makes me use him more lol
I have been studying martial arts on and off the last decade. I just started doing Taekwondo and I love it. I'm definitely gonna play Hwoarang in Tekken 8. IRL Martial Artists Rise Up!
@Alternate Accounts there's a lot of same moves but I noticed a few new combo enders. Then there's also the new default hit effect which resemble hawk talon marks like his nick name Blood Talon, which I'm on the fence about because it's not like Hwo has clawed boots/shoes or anything.
Dayum he oozes confidence and his new hairstyle is dope, the animations are so sick and that intro with Jin is top tier Edit: didnt expect there to be a war in the comments over his hairstyle yikes
@@lana_euclase "I have no taste." Tell me his design is better than the T7 version without telling me his design is better than the T7 version. It's not that exciting, my guy.💀💀💀
Bruh, I was a 10-year-old kid when Hwoarang debuted in Tekken 3, and now I'm in my mid-30s and crusty while he's still a young adult at peak strength 😭
Don't beat yourself up too much. Its natural that we age in the real world whilst familiar characters in various series age more gracefully (granted they haven't aged the T3 characters too much and its more a case of a style change).
Not only his moves become faster and heavier and he also have moves and stances from Baek. Even his character is changed even his demeanor..his no longer noisy and cocky at the same time. He looks calm and serious. Even his kicks are straight forward and very precised.
@@AAKtheThird I'll tell you this as a T2 Baek main: I don't mind. I wouldn't be unhappy to see old man pimp roll through providing it's a good iteration of the character, but at the same time I enjoy Hwoarang evolving. Their move lists were always the biggest evidence of the difference between master and student, if he indeed does take more from Baek in this iteration and replaces him, I'm all for it. Maybe Hwoarang decided to take his training just that much more seriously.
I started my fighting games journey with tekken 6. I remember seeing his back story and when he was defeated by devil jin in tekken 5, and its so good to look at him defeat Jin
The last Tekken i got really deep into was Tekken Tag Tournament… I know right, I’ve missed out on a a lot. But I think I’ll pick Tekken back up for this installment
Love how each and every returning character is coming back stronger, more advanced, and matured. 8th title in the series and still growing phenomenally. All game genres can learn from this
Like taking zen cancel from jin and taking off backlash launcher for rang most of what you said is true but honestly this tekken is a little dumbed down gameplay wise it for more people to get into it
@@Kamedouken I think some things were inspired by Tekken that Street Fighter 6 were taking notes of, and vice versa like Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear, Dead Or Alive, ect. But yeah, it'd be great if fighting games could add more inspired things from other fighting games, to see if it works or not for that genre. I agree.
I grew up bunking school and playing Tekken 3 on PS1 at game parlours with Hwoarang as my first and main. Now I am over 30 years of age and saw the guy in Tekken 8 with awesome moves. Nostalgia..............pure emotion.
Hwoarang is cool because everything about his design matched with his personality. It’s not just his biker theme outfit that displays his delinquent side, it’s also his taekwondo dobok. He has an interesting personality, Hwoarang lives for the thrill and doesn’t let any rules stop him from doing what he thinks is fun. Despite what his rough personality would suggest, Hwoarang has an honorable side. He respects his master Baek and prefers to have a fair fight with his opponents. He rejects any form of supernatural power so he can rely on his own fighting skills. While Hwoarang is a jerk most of the time, he’s actually a fairly decent guy when you get to know him. His rivalry with Jin is interesting due to how it developed throughout the series. It evolved from a bitter rivalry to a friendly one. Jin and Hwoarang are now basically just the friends who prefer to beat each other up rather than hug. No matter how much they fight, they have each other’s back. It’s a typical example of vitriolic best buds. Hwoarang was even willing to sacrifice his eye for Jin in T7 even if it was just an temporary injury and he didn't lost the eye for real, it shows how Hwoarang was more moral than Jin at that particular point. Lastly but not least, I consider Hwoarang to be one of Tekken's strongest designs. I personally think that he’s the best representation of TKD in a fighting game. Hwoarang is awesome and I can’t imagine the franchise without him. 🤷🏻♂️☯️👌✌️
There's so much to unpack in this one: The appearance, the grunts, the fact that they ditched his pro bodybuilder physique, the old T5 Jin intro animation, the moves... Hwoarang is looking crazy!
@@hilihkintil6789 totally agree, they overdose on Law's physique, I'm a Law main actually, they should've stuck to TK5 law Body Design and put a little detail to it.
Hworang is a GOAT! His T4 style with the Gi is my favorite, and I love how he has a little bit of that with Baek's moveset. He finally became the Master 🥋
Definitely what the game needs. Characters that look like they are ready to start throwing hands Instead of wearing whatever they found on their closed.
@@brother44444 I'd say variety is key Besides they will all have crazy wack outfits later on, so I don't mind some being tame and others being wild with their closets
@@brother44444 yeah right. A fighting game is all about stupid hair cuts and flashy over the top costumes. I bet Paul was peak character design for you.
Interactions are better but I feel like a few of them will get boring overtime especially when there’s none between characters that never interacted in the past
If you watched the anime, you know that's true though. No matter how many times Hwoarang said by mouth he hated Jin's guts, he was happy as long as they still get to fight or spar against each other for old times sake.
It take many year to pronounce his name cuz the sound of hwoarang which person begin said like hurrah or woarang . It just like Latino/Mexico language cuz like example the whole world said the word jam just like it was but for people of Latino/Mexico pronounce jam as yam cuz for them the letter j is became y unless other methods can difference the sound of it.
Juri and Hwoarang both have Akira references on motorcycles. Both got their eyes back(eye-patches removed) and both have mastered Taekwondo. And I think they are both Korean in canon? What is happening here x)

The student finally becomes the *Master* , the prodigy of Taekwondo finally makes his electrifying debut on the TK8 roster and with remarkable swagger. The maturity of how they greeted each other filled my heart with so much joy: *Jin* acknowledging *Hwoarang* for the first time and respectfully challenging *Jin* to a fight so he can prove his strength to him, 0:57. That for me was one of the biggest highlights of the video and his marvelously detailed character design, he kind of reminds me of a webtoon *Manwha* protagonist. Congratulations to the studio who endured sleepless nights to make this impeccable video. Can't wait for the release of the game. 👏, 🙏.
Namco has a big problem. When redesigning characters, they do not always retain the recognizability of the character. T8 Hwaorang is only recognizable by his moveset. The character could have been named completely differently, given a different biography with a new moveset and no one would have thought it was Hwoarang. In the Streat Fighter the authors keep the key features of the classic character's design and emphasize them, while the Namco destroys its legacy.
